The 2022 Offseason Thread

Oh for sure. They've known for months now. Likely a wink-wink thing to keep it quiet until after the draft so the Ravens could make it seem like they didn't need a replacement.

seems like it's more like he knew it was a possibility, knew he wasnt going to play for any other franchise, and appreciated that they let him know they might go after jordan

and when they got stout, he knew his time was done

but who knew watching a punter's presser would be so fucking emotional lol

just getting through the first minute is a nightmare lol

Wow I am truly sad. This is the only Raven left who was there before I became a fan (2010) so It’s the only position I don’t know of anyone else. I’d assume my case is the same as many others here.

He was drafted when I was ***5***… wtf

Well to add to it... with Koch's retirement, TE Mercedes Lewis is the only active player left from the 2006 Draft Class.

Yeah surprised by that, but also think they've had the conversations at least leading up to it for him to transition into coaching. Seems more of an understanding that when the Ravens decided to move on, he wasn't going to suit up elsewhere. So would have punted here but nowhere else type of deal.

Matt Prater, who went undrafted in 2006 is also still around kicking for the Cardinals.

The Ravens 2006 Draft Class:
Round 1, Pick 12: Haloti Ngata DL
Round 2, Pick 56: Chris Chester C
Round 3, Pick 87: David Pittman CB
Round 4, Pick 111: Demetrius Williams (Could have Drafted Brandon Marshall or Dumervil instead, Denver got both of them after this pick)
Round 4, Pick 132: P.J Daniels RB*
Round 5, Pick 146: Dawan Landry SS
Round 5, Pick 166: Quinn Sypniewski TE*
Round 6, Pick 203: Sam Koch P*
Round 6, Pick 208: Derrick Martin CB*
Round 7, Pick 219: Ryan LaCasse DE

exactly that - and he's probably getting very similar money too

Agree with this. I don't think retirement was known in March. If it was, a) it certainly wouldn't have made either side look bad if he did retire, since everybody and their mother would have known its a possibility anyway and b) I'm sure the Ravens don't know for sure that they can get a punter in the draft. If they don't draft a punter, Koch is probably still a Raven.

So yeah, its a combination of both. Ravens probably told him they were looking to draft somebody, and if they did, they'd cut him. He didn't want to play elsewhere and knows its close to, if not the end, of the line anyway.
