i mostly understand - im a sucker for sci-fi in almost all of its forms
from its very minor sci-fiy-ness in films like The Meg (which gave me a tag-esque amount of enjoyment) to the high concept stuff like Arrival and Annihilation or the YA dystopian stuff like the hunger games etc.
but man Star Wars is and always will be my jam
2018 hasnt been a great year for sci-fi if im honest though - including the superhero fare i havent been that happy with this year's stuff - and the most forgettable star wars film they've ever made - it was just fine but added nothing to the canon or lore that was exciting (literally the exact opposite of the last jedi which will probably be the most-remembered and discussed star wars film ever made)
im hoping the end of the year helps:
Bumblebee (oddly looks great in the trailers), Mortal Engines looks like my YA jam (hopefully its more like hunger games than divergent but we'll see), Spider-Man into the spider-verse looks awesome, Alita: Battle Angel had an incredible first trailer (I hope it doesnt devolve into something generic - im hopeful but not expectant)
