Next Up: vs Bengals

I think everybody has explained pretty clearly why he went for it. i.e. nobody trusts this defense to make a critical stop with the game on the line.
Frankly, breaking it down, kicking the FG seems asinine in some ways.

Bottom line... in no shape or form were we guaranteed a "win" by kicking a FG in this game. I think even the biggest Harbaugh basher would still admit the most likely outcomes involve losing in regulation or going to OT.
I absolutely was for him going for it on 4th down last year on both of the games later in the year. Believe it was against the Steelers and GB. However I would have preferred taking the points this week, knowing how our offense had been moving in the second half. I understand that wouldn't have meant we would have won the game, but atleast the Bills would have had to get atleast 3. If our running game was working better and we were on the 1 or 2 yard line, than I would have wanted to go for it.

The Jets just finished up facing the entire AFC North. What can you as Ravens fans conclude from the Jets 1st 4 games.

Honestly, I'm not going to lie. As a Jets fan, I fully expected the Jets to go 1-3. I figured going into the season that the Jets had their best opportunity for a win against the Steelers. So going 2-2 is actually somewhat of a pleasant surprise for me. I did believe best case scenario they could go 2-2. So it's not totally a surprise. Just the same slightly surprising in a good way.

My belief is the Jets beat the lesser competition from the AFC North. They got beaten by the Ravens, no argument there. The Bengals really gashed the Jets, no argument there. The Jets were lucky enough to face playoff worthy teams without their starting QB. And honestly, I think that's the largest contributing factor as to why they won.

If objectively speaking I had to rank the AFC North I would rank them like this:

1) Bengals
2) Browns
3) Steelers
4) Ravens

Honestly speaking the Ravens really suck and they'll be picking number 1 in the offseason.

GOTCHA LOL

1) Bengals
2) Ravens
3) Browns
4) Steelers

Seriously speaking I can't put the Ravens 1. Since the Bengals started taking care of business they've looked most impressive from my outside viewpoint. Now that certainly doesn't mean they don't have a shot against the kitty cats. They just don't look capable of that from where I'm sitting right now.

I think you guys SHOULD make quick work of the Brownies and Steelers. I view the Ravens as a likely (not certain) playoff team. Before the season many people have been picking the Ravens to be in the SB. I don't think they're good enough for that right now? They've got some work to do to regain that top AFC contender mantra.

The keys for victory against the Bengals is Pressure. Your defense MUST get after Joe Burrow to win. That's the blueprint that's out there on the Bengals right now. Also, surprisingly enough, Jamarr Chase can be taken out of the game. In the Jets game besides an obvious blown coverage the Jets actually defended him quite well. When Sauce faced Jamarr, Jamarr didn't have a single catch. So the Ravens certainly can take Chase out of the game.

On offense, I get the feeling that NFL teams don’t respect the Ravens passing game right now. Obviously, the pussy cats are going to attempt to shut down your running game. They want LJ to beat them through the air. So IMO it's up to LJ and can he prove he can stay in the pocket and beat a good team through the air?

I have just recovered from deep depression and severe anxiety over our loss to the dastardly Bills, thanks to none other than our genius decision maker, Gen. John Harbaugh Patton. Thankfully, he is only general for football games and not a real-time war. Otherwise, we'd be taking risks and be left with no army by this time. I still cannot fathom why he had to go for it. He has literally cost us over 5-6 games since last year, a playoff appearance, and at least 1 win with his poor on-field decisions. The other game he lost was because his raw D-coordinator was dumbfounded by the game and couldn't adjust at all.
last season we went for it at the end of the game on two occasions. The Steelers and the Packers and both of those calls were spot on. Harbaugh has definitely not lost us 5 games since last season. If anything he is keeping us competitive even with all the injuries.

Lets not put this on our coach. Sometimes the players need to take responsibility. There is no way we should have even been in that position at the end of the game.

I think everybody (including myself) needs to chill on the Harbaugh hate. Let’s see how this game goes. If they do the same mindless coaching crap they’ve done for years, then I’m onboard the firing train. But hey, everybody deserves a chance

The Ravens offense did better against the Jets than the Bengals did, I watched your game so that’s surprising you feel this way. You guys got a roughing the passer penalty on their first TD and you whiffed on tackling Boyd. Then you almost had a chance to pull another Browns comeback but you didn’t run on 4th and 1. I’m honestly surprised your takeaway is the Bengals were far and away superior

Houston and Bateman still missing from practice which doesn't bode well. Hill also missing but that one was more expected.

Dobbins is back on the field though.

I am not even the biggest Harbaugh basher, and I disagree with the notion of losing. Going to OT, sure. Then we would've given ourselves another chance. BTW, why the fuck does our defense suck so much? Is it the DC, the schemes, the lack of in-game adjustments, the players, or a combination of all of these factors?

Couple things I'll say on the defense:
1. New DC obviously means changes in scheme and designs. Pretty obvious that new DC plays a lot more Cover 2/3 looks, and views things differently.
I think the Buffalo game was somewhat of a microcosm of that. Like he barely blitzed, he specifically schemed to not give up the big play, and we largely played a "bend but don't break" type style. It was at least somewhat effective, since we did hold them to 23 points, which is quite low for Buffalo.
2. Lack of pass rush is probably the biggest personnel issue. Unless I see more of the secondary breakdowns I saw in Miami, I'm treating that half of football as basically an outlier. It skews all the results. But the pass rush not getting home and not winning late in games is a real problem, and I think that's a personnel issue for the moment.

I think this group as the potential to improve dramatically as the year goes on. Will depend on health and execution.
Ultimately I think in a year or two, with the right upgrades, this unit can really be good. Got some core younger players and some solid veterans to build around.

Bateman and Houston still absent from practice today. Will have to monitor Friday. Limited sessions would be ideal.

And we had tons of coverage mix ups allowing big plays. Now there's two ways you can look at 1) self inflicted woundsor 2) the opposing forced you into those mistakes. Honestly, I think it's both. With that said, i thought the Bengals put us away by halftime.....

I thought the opposite, you hung around all game. At what point did you think you weren’t out of it with Baltimore?
