Lamar Jackson

When it comes to Lamar Jackosn whom obviously is a star I think The Ravens have to wonder how can they get him to be more consistent as a passer. Earlier in the season he was making throws that not even the 2019 Lamar Jackson was making but as the season went it on it fizzled out a bit. I'm not sure if The Raven need a new quarterback coach because I can't say James Urban has done a bad job with Jackson but it's something has to change. Maybe Jackson needs to change up his offseason regiment or something.

The Miami game rattled him and he never looked confident since. He was throwing off his back foot and side arm throwing.. his mechanics went out the window. We can't blame the oline and the injuries because we see how Huntley did with same oline.
Major part of the problem was the playcalling never changed for Jackson like it did with Huntley. And yes I know defenses played Lamar different but Roman is to blame and I hope he is gone or we will see Jackson continue to struggle.

Roman’s future is heavily dependent on Lamar. I’m sure the leadership is having honest conversations with Lamar and John. If Lamar likes this offense and feels comfortable with it, Roman is locked in. They won’t make a change unless it’s detrimental to Lamar’s growth.

To Roman’s credit , he is probably the greatest run coordinator of all time. His passing concepts suck. I want to gouge my eyes out when he calls two man routes and a RB in the flat. But he did a decent job with what he had to work with. Guys like Boyle and Ricard are key to his scheme and loosing them hurt us down the stretch. I have no idea what’s going to happen there but I’d be fine with moving on from GRo.

huntley did nothing behind the same OL lol - this idea that because huntley didnt embarrass himself that somehow the OL is not to partly to blame for lamar's struggles completely ignores that our deep passing game went out the window as soon as huntley took over

like obviously lamar struggled but it's hard to not point out a fair amount of it started after mekari went down the first time

Best thing for lamar to do is to raise his football iq. Hoping he gonna consistently throw accurate passes all the time isnt gonna happen. He needs to continue studying.

Huntley arm strength sucked as you and others mentioned many times. But Huntley definitely played better behind the line. That's why I say Roman takes most of the blame for not adjusting when Lamar was struggling but to act like Lamar didn't regress the second half of the season is being blind.

i mean maybe it's just me but i dont think huntley played better behind the line at all - i think we used a lot of quick stuff to make sure we werent affected by the OL but whenever he took a longer drop to try and open up the intermediate or deeper passing game he was similarly under pressure quickly

im not disagreeing with you that lamar had a slump - just disagreeing that huntley somehow was better working behind that OL - worth pointing out we struggled to score TDs behind that OL without lamar

Huntley lost every game except against the God awful Chicago bears without Fields behind this line.

Lamar absolutely regressed when the team continously became depleted in all areas, but Lamar still won games. With Lamar we could throw the ball more than 6 yards.

Huntley did admirably for a young backup player. We didn't embarrass ourselves with him. However he was top to bottom awful and honestly was exploited more and more as time went on.

Anyone who is putting Huntleys name in the same sentence as Lamar is actually just hating for the sake of hating.

Comparing W/L in a team game never does much in my opinion. Huntley certainly doesn’t have anything to do about Robert Jackson Vs Devante Adams matchup. He also played really well Vs Cleveland. The Pitt and LA game weren’t great, a clear sign of his short comings. He certainly was not top to bottom awful. I just don’t see the need to try and put him down or compare him to Lamar. Im just thankful we have a pretty decent back up on the cheap for a few years.

That's the thing though, I don't know if he's even a decent backup. I have no interest in putting people down, especially our own guys. I'm almost always the kind of person who gives the benefit of the doubt/Homer's a guy who I shouldn't a la James Proche for years now.

Anyway, this is just a guess because I'm just some guy and don't know anything. Huntley only looked ok in the bears and Browns games. In both of those games the other team was prepared for a Lamar Jackson offense and there was no tape on Huntley. With each successive week where the opponent had more understanding of what a Tyler Huntley offense could do, he was basically shut down altogether ESPECIALLY in the redzone.

By the end there he was playing awful against an awful team. People are just so high on him and I can't see him as anything other than a backup that won't embarrass you, but you'll probably lose 9 out of 10 games with.

Maybe that's all you can ask for out of a backup QB in the NFL. I could accept that, it's hard to win with your staring QB. But to say move on from Lamar for Huntley is the kind of stuff that makes me mad because for the same reason you say don't rag on your own players, it's just so disrespectful to LJ

which is sort of what we expected after people over-reacted after his 2nd start... that defences would adjust to his limitations and it would get tougher and tougher with each week

im not sure - i think huntley's fine right now as the backup

in my view the backup's someone who should be able to keep the offence on track and on schedule when the starter's out to keep the team in games and help talent perform and help the team survive the starter's absence for a couple or a few weeks

huntley was hamstrung by the injuries in the same ways as lamar and because of that we had no chance of winning with lamar out because huntley's job is to allow the rest of the team to continue performing but the rest of the team was also struggling because of the injuries and other absences so suddenly he's in a position where he has to try and carry the team more than you'd want for a backup

so id say the jury's still out on huntley - no idea if with a better OL he might have been able to do more in the redzone but he's certainly not someone who can overcome deficiencies (and tbf that's not what we should expect from a backup)

I really do believe this is a fair take.
