I'm not sure why you want to paint him in a bad light (especially to make him look greedy) right before you try to drum up interest for a trade. Not sure that's going to help his trade value...

If a team is considering trading away multiple 1st rounders and a bag to Lamar, they already know and are sold on his talents.

They also know the game Ravens gotta play if they trading away a beloved figure.

Good enough for me is top 5 range. Usually teams in that range are targeting that position. If it comes to a bidding war it's hard to compete with a team that's ahead of you. Most don't want to trade down that far if they already have a qb and a good draft pick. I'm not saying you can't find a guy just its obviously more difficult.

Right, but also depends on the year and the needs. You got 2-3 teams in the top 5 this year who would love to move out for a bunch of picks, because they don't need a QB.

I disagree. I believe they are going to do the exclusive tag and continue working with him, especially since only 32.5 m counts against the cap until 5 days prior to the draft. Gives us a bit of flexibility, but no way we let him go for only 2 first round picks.

The Browns aren't the only desperate team in the NFL. One of those teams is just south of us

So where I disagree is the "continue working with him" aspect. If Lamar's demands are just to a point that we're not going to go, what's the point of trying this all over again for another year or so? I don't think it's the amount of the tag that's the issue here for the Ravens - it's their belief in that the market is what they think it is and that will spur talks back to being realistic.

To me, the only other purpose of the exclusive tag is if you think Burrow, Hurts, Herbert, etc. are getting paid soon and aren't getting fully guaranteed, but even I'm not sure that will sway Lamar if all of this is true.

Read somewhere that the Browns win in all of this because the Ravens may lose Lamar and the Bengals won't be able to keep all those weapons because of what Joe B might get.

People laughed at me when I suggested they signed that deal with purpose knowing that they could do it and screw the Division who had two young QB's who were going to come up to FAgency. They had so much in cap available they could do whatever they wanted. I think they had top 5 most cap space at the time. It interesting others are latching on now. We need to just cut bait and not be trolled into taking on a contract that will limit what we can do on the rest of the team.

What would really be justice to me is signing Baker for a stop gap and using all of the capital from a Lamar trade to win a SB with their guy. F them.

I just see no way we do a deal with Lamar that ends up costing significantly about the Franchise Tag number for 3/4 or 4/5 of the years of the contract. That's just stupid, imo. Love how the guy plays. Don't mind him betting on himself, but I think I'd respect the Ravens even more by just folding and saying, you know - this is just too rich for us right now. Not to mention how distracting the whole thing is to the rest of the team.

I think its the opposite. Why would you go exclusive only to trade him? Its purely for more draft comp at that point.
The only way that makes sense is if they assign a deadline of just before draft day (which is what some have suggested).

I think a non-exclusive tag means you've given up hope for a long term deal, and are just trying to mitigate the cash risk of not finding a trade partner.

I think exclusive tag means they're either close to a deal, or the FO is confident they can get to one. The non-exclusive tag means there's no common ground to be had, and its time to listen to calls.

I struggle to see it that way. Exclusive to me just delays the inevitable - you can't reach a deal...

Unless they're banking on the other guys getting deals as mentioned in my other post.

Fully admitting that it's just a gut feeling and I wouldn't be shocked at all if it went the other way, but...

I think we're going non-exclusive tag at this point. I think they fully believe another team isn't going to come in and do fully guaranteed plus giving up the draft capital. And if they do, I think they're content to threaten to match unless trade conditions are upped beyond the two 1sts. Don't doubt they want to keep him, but I also think they're frustrated with the negotiation process and having another team do that for them has to be appealing. It's ballsy as fuck but it just makes sense to me.

He got a good deal, way more than he would have had he not been the SB QB, but nothing close to what others were getting. We just back loaded it so badly that it felt even worse than it was.

I vividly remember watching a MNF game where Raiders had to go for it on 4th and goal. Carr flushed out of the pocket, rolled right.. ended up throwing it away, out of bounds, into the stands.

From then on.. I just consider him a stat-padder.

Would argue it wasn't the totality of the deal that made Flacco a pariah - it was the structure. Backloaded the fuck out of that do to poor pre-planning and that's why we had to double down. A deal of that size should have been completely manageable at the time.

Awful injury luck, bad drunk night and a LT who loved weed more than the game. The team got stuck paying guys who couldn't play or regressed. And it doesn't change the point he reset the market.
