Lamar Jackson

Granted I still worry about his exposure to big hits as a runner, but he looked good passing last night.

Although he doesn’t seem to really throw to the sideline from the pocket, anyone else notice that?

Yes, noticed that too. Then I remembered that typically means the target is Crabtree, so that explains that...

My problem with mayock is I can feel him spitting in my face as he talks on tv, he
Btw, in my other FF league championship game, well, as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words:

Yes. Weird cause Flacco came in seemingly abusing sideline/outside throws while ignoring the middle. Opposite here, but I think partially by design. Throwing outside is difficult and very dangerous if you're late.

I personally hoped he never saw the field his rookie year, but am happy to see the progress from pre season to now. At this point just enjoying the ride cause I was in the group saying the season was over.

I'm in the same boat as you; he had Rivers, but also has Gurley and JuJu. Looks like JuJu will play, but I don't think Gurley will.
We have open waiver wires on Sunday mornings before game time, so I picked up CJ Anderson.
Now I'm debating if I should keep Sony Michel in vs BUF, or roll the dice and start CJ. NE is a 1pm game and LAR a 4:30pm game. What say you? I think Michel is going to have a pretty solid night tonight, which makes this decision pretty tough.

Lamar has really come along as a passer. I think his throws are tightening up and that’s great because the guy hasn’t had a full offseason. I’m hoping Lamar gets with whatever coaches he needs to improve for next year during the offseason but I see no reason he won’t. I loved Joe but he never seemed like he put in those extra hours to be great, which is amazing because he still did well despite that. I think this showed after his ACL because I don’t think he ever reworked his mechanics and why that is the year everything seemed to fall apart. I trust Lamar to put in this work. The throw to Andrews was beautiful.

I actually think we were better when we opened up the offense more for Lamar as a passer. He went against a very very very good secondary and he did well against them. This cannot be stated enough. Get him some quality receiving options whatever they are with great speed and hands and add 1 OL and some depth and I’m telling you that Lamar will do damage next year. This guy has huge potential to be special.

I’m going with Michel as my flex with kamara and Mack as the RBs because Mack has been a fantasy machine lately. Michel has been reliable almost all year since he’s gotten healthy, I think he’s had 2 bad weeks

I'm in a league where the idiot commish has it running thru week 17. I told him from about week 5 or 6 to cut it at 16 but he said everyone would have to vote and two bums never responded. I need Chiefs to lose this week so my players have something to fight for week 17

Definitely not trying to take away from Lamar, because he did a great job last night and was easily the best game we've seen from him. But we should give a ton of credit to the OL for their effort. Bosa and Ingram is no joke. They did as well as you can expect against those two.

I'm hoping that we loosen the leash even further next week against the Browns. Get Lamar 25 - 28 pass attempts this week.; I really want him to get those reps in, this is his last chance against a live defense before the playoffs start.

We need to surround this kid with talent, so that he can grow into that special player we all know that he can be. Unfortunately, I just don't trust this FO to take proper care of their QBs. Maybe with DeCosta in charge that will change.

Personally... I don’t see the great passing game lamar had that you all see, I saw some really disappointing things that I thought he would’ve worked out by now. He threw one to John brown where Casey Hayward was easily breaking downhill and there was no reason he should’ve thought it was ok to throw it, and he also threw it behind and it almost got picked, he put one behind hurst where he had a strong step and a half on a crosser and lamar just missed it, the endzone fade to crab was a horrible attempt and shows he hasn’t picked up the fade yet and again I still worry he never develops that throw. He showed plenty of good, and i was at a Christmas party drunk and stoned watching it last night so my memory is foggy, but I know for a fact he had some very poor throws and decisions last night.

However... we ended up winning despite lamar being held to very few rush yards on few attempts, and he did make some really nice throws, one that’s overlooked is the beautiful sideline throw to crab, where he threw to a spot and let crab get it, and crab got outmanned, but good coverage and perfect placement on a throw that lamar has struggled with.

Yeah fantasy championships should never happen in week 17...

I don’t know what happened but we used to do well with building the OL so I’m hoping we go back to those days. The edges did hold up well despite Hurst going down at one point. I think we need 1 IOL early and then take a tackle at some point as a swing T.

I think it’s the passes he threw and connected on and the passes that should’ve counted but didn’t due to drops that has people feeling good about his improvement as a passer. He had issues last night but results are results and he wasn’t picked off and did a good job with the football on the whole. It’s really as simple as that. I do not like how he was reading the defense though. I felt he was too “run first” early in the game and even said as much. He did settle down and get his head right but you can tell the defense got to him. He had periods of very good passing play followed by very poor passing. He definitely looked shook at points in this game but this was a very good secondary so don’t diminish that.

He broke 200 yards passing and honestly some of the bad throws I could chalk up to just still settling into the progression and timing of certain plays, and reading the defense to know where the receivers should come open.

The fade throw is a more difficult throw to make, idk if he’ll ever be that kind of thrower though - truthfully he probably doesn’t need to be.

Weirdly Joe struggled his entire career with down the middle - he progressed to a point of being decent but never great imo. Joe sometimes struggled with arcing the down the middle throws to drop them in while avoiding linebacker coverage.

Ironically those seem to be becoming Lamar’s bread and butter passes lol. But he still hasn’t really shown a lot even if just attempts at the sideline and what he has shows has been meh. But Joe I think was special in how he came out as a rookie highly proficient in those throws. Hopefully Lamar gets better with those.

I certainly am not one to say he had a great passing game but I think last nights game was a sign of incremental improvement. He’s still going to make a number of bad passes in each game we’re just looking for them to be gradually reduced.

I think the thing I will point to as encouraging was when we found ourselves behind and the rookie had to respond he did immediately and it was absolutely critical that we reverse momentum right then and there.

That pass to Andrews for a quick TD to take the wind out of the LAC team and fans was huge. Definitely a big man play there after everything else that went wrong

Worry about him taking a big hit is a legitimate concern. I’m thinking it always will be. He’s been very good at slip sliding away from the big hit but there is no way to be sure that will always Avoid it.

And yes sideline throw from the pocket is definitely a deficiency. We’ll see if that can develop over time.
