There's not really anything wrong with it. Happens plenty of times. LeBron is great example. In NFL, no shortage of people who stayed with Peyton, Brady, etc. for their entire career. That's perfectly fine if you choose to do that.
Just acknowledging that it exists is important, and understanding that people who cheer for teams, rather than players, tend to give less credibility and value to opinions of those who's interests are primarily aligned with individual players best interests, rather than the best interests of the organization.
Hence why when I come in contact with the "give Lamar a blank check" crowd, they've earned the eye roll when they claim to be Ravens fans. It doesn't benefit the organization, in any way, to give a blank check. Maybe they decide to do it anyway, but as a fan, I know that decreases the likelihood of adding better personnel to upgrade the team. And that's what's in my interest.
