Lamar Jackson

We got two first round WRs for him, one of the best receiving TEs, and good receiving RBs.

Also, if we're being honest WRs refused to come here with Roman calling plays.
And a 4th round gem TE who is also a pretty good receiver. It’s not at all like they have ignored the need for ball catchers, they just have not gotten a splash top tier WR, and as you say, Roman is to WR’s what Raid is to bugs.

So we want that top tier receiver, right... or do we want a receiving core like KCs, cheap but decent.

What’s wrong with wanting both. It’s ok to dream right? Lol

Seriously though it would be nice to have that top tier WR and a good #2 who can play wide or in the slot. One who can get the YAC’s and the tough yards over the middle. Can Bateman be that #1 WR? I’m saying maybe he can if he can stay healthy and with the right coaching in place.

If he improves his catching, he definitely can be. CAN

Trying to spin the narrative that we can’t spend on WRs since Lamar gonna make too much is dirty business. Like we had 4 years of cheap Lamar, still didn’t spend. Oh.. but we somehow found 20mil to pay for a LB we took in for half a season.

Yeah I mean let's just call it square. This team has not for years valued the WR position.

Traded 1 wr the year after drafting the other 1. The TE is good and the RBs all missed a year. Then add in Greg Roman. Everyone knew if Bateman went down what the wr room would look like.

My bet is on yes.

All along they "wanted to keep Lamar" but for cheap. If they really did, he'd be entering 3rd year of a long term deal signed after '20 season.
No he wouldn’t. Every long term deal that every player signs is an extension. So even if the Ravens had a deal in 2020 it would still only be starting this year similar to how Allen’s deal starts up next year and Mahomes deal started this year.

Yup. People saying we spent 2 first rounders on WRs.. not really. As soon as we drafted the 2nd one, we traded the first one. So really, we spent a first.. drafted miles Boykin and Duvernary, and free agents like Seth Roberts, Willie Snead, and Demarcus Robinson during Lamar’s rookie deal. Pain.

The first one demanded to be traded because of our OC.

If it's gonna happen, send Lamar to ATL. Get a haul, headlined by the 9th pick.
Blank's got that Home Depot money, he can pay LJ.

I'd then get on the phone with AZ about jumping up to #3. The Ravens would certainly have the picks to do it. Take whoever is left after Houston. Young or Stroud. I ain't taking Levis.

Also a season later not as soon as we drafted Bateman.

The only year where we could say we had 2
1st round WRs on the field was Bateman’s rookie year. He started that year on IR. Then the whole team pretty much fell like flies at the end of the season due to injuries.

That was the only year you could say we invested in WRs. The other Lamar years.. nah. We underinvested

You can't say we under invested because of the injuries. Not much you can do about injuries and Hollywood forced the trade. So from a draft perspective we didnt under invest.

You can certainly say we did for WR in FA, the issue we have with our right player, right place philosophy is that teams go way over market for free agent WRs. I have to be honest I can't think of too many FA WRs over the past 2 years that we missed out on that I wished we overpaid on. Would have loved the AJ Brown trade though.

You are correct, if by 'underinvested' you meant comically reckless.

I wouldn't say we underinvested. Numerous picks were spent on wrs. It's more like we put our life savings in dogecoin.
