Lamar Jackson

It's interesting that reports are steadily coming out now that he has his number and has expressed it as more than Watson. Some suspected that, but has never been "stated" before. It's also kind of interesting hearing these things now in the light of things that were said about the level of his injury and whether he was able to play. Keyshawn Johnson made that interesting point that if he started the season with the team and playing well, he owed it to them to try to finish if he was able. I'm just totally torn by all this. Lamar's a great player, but no player is worth all of this effort, much less money at a level he doesn't seem to be bending on. My way or no way at all.

Can we exclusive tag him and then announce we are allowing him to seek a trade? Or is that an unfair bypass of the non-exclusive? And if he doesn't get a contract, but is franchised either way and refuses to play, does the team have to pay the salary still, or does it go into an escrow type deal where portions of it come back to the team as he "loses" fractions of it week by week? I have no clue how that works, but as it seems complicated, it seems even more likely we just try to cut bait somehow and move on with other plans.

He is but its not worth this . The Packers are sick of Rodgers and the Ravens are likely sick of Lamar's negotiations or should I say the players union bargaining with them.

Time to trade him for the most we can get and draft a QB who works with an agent.

If this idiot who can't negotiate worth a damn is why we lose Lamar. He can go on about fully guaranteed contracts all he wants but isn't that his job to negotiate something like that into the CBA? He's failed to do that on two occasions, now he wants to use Lamar as a pawn for his failures.

Shame players keep voting him as their leader, they are ok with the status quo when they coukd have better CBA deals with someone else.

At the end of the day Lamar is also a grown ass man capable of getting advice from others, and looking around the league to see contracts other people are getting. Lamar is the one making these choices.

Yeah hes an adult. But he's pretty damn young and young adults make mistakes elders would never do.

That's why he needed an agent. But it's too damn late for that.

Lamar is an incredible player but enough is enough. Tag him and bag him.

I agree but he’s probably under a tremendous amount of pressure from Smith and others. Since the Browns signed Watson, Smith sees Lamar’s deal as a springboard to set a benchmark for future guaranteed contracts.

In other businesses it doesn’t hurt the rest of the workers and their customers though. The employers pay the tax for everyone regardless.

If the NFLPA was rallying behind a special teams guy who gets paid comparatively little, or even a RB who’s career is always short I could get behind it. QBs are the most protected players on the field and generally have the longest careers, and usually make the most $. Just don’t see the righteousness in this mess, seems more of a vendetta to me and Lamar is just being used as a weapon.

Still, it seems like Lamar is willing to carry their water and, unfortunately, that puts him on a collision course with Bisciotti, who's happy to carry the owners' water in the fight against guarantees. (I bet you eg. Jerry Jones wouldn't do it, if he had a QB of Lamar's quality)

Problem is the structural changes they want through collective bargaining pretty much requires a large contingent of players making $500K a year to go without a paycheck for a long period of time. At least a year, if not longer.

And NFLPA ain't paying their bills while that happens. NFLPA already knows they don't have the power to force fully guaranteed contracts, because the concessions they'll need to make to get it won't benefit the player pool in totality enough to warrant it. It's a net losing proposition 100% of the time.

They're just pawns. They know they'll get laughed out of the room if they proposed fully gtd contracts for RBs, because the Owners would be like "fuck, we don't care, we'll trot a new guy out there every week just to avoid the risk". They have to choose QBs, because they're the position with the least injury risk and are the most valuable overall.

Credit to the NFLPA for the last CBA, where they lobbied for higher minimums (and got it) for the lower paid players. That's what they should be doing. They shouldn't be out here advising Lamar on why he should only settle for $235M instead of $190M guaranteed. Like any other sport, the top performers are going to be paid gigantic sums, and taken care of financially, regardless of the model. The NFLPAs job should be to promote the bottom making more $, not the top. The top will be taken care of.

In my company it would hurt, we’re a small group and losing a guy hurts, just like it hurts a team, but we still want our coworker getting paid while he’s laid up hurt, at least I would.

Idk I just can’t side with the owners really ever when it comes to the financial battle

I mean if ravens dont wanna give him a fully gtd thats higher than watsons, i doubt anyone can make them change their mind.. agents are just like realtors to me.. if you dnt wanna go through the hassle, get you one but if you dnt mind the dirty work, fk em..
