The 2023 Offseason Thread

And @rmcjacket23 pointed out that Duv is really expensive too for being straight up garbage.

But given we can't pay the price for FAs that are meaningful, we can't fill 4 or 5 WR spots with guys who are upgrades right????

Like Bateman will be here. A high draft pick will be here.

But if you're moving on from everyone else, who thr fuck are going to be the other 3 or 4 guys?

there are ways to bargain shop
and if Lamar signs, you can spend a little extra to get a guy you like in free agency (just probably cant shell out for a top top guy... nor would we probably want to get involved in that over-inflated market)

but ive learned to trust EDC when he tells us what his priority is

Yes, he just only focuses on that.

Me personally, I'll be arguably as intrigued about what happens with the secondary than the WR room.

Losing Clark I think is a bigger deal than some think. Obviously you've got Hamilton, but he spent most of his rookie year as SCB. If he's staying in that role, either Geno Stone takes over (who I believe is a FA himself), or you need another Safety. If you move Hamilton to Safety, and we don't re-sign Peters, we're super thin at Corner. Got three young guys on the roster who will need to step up, and maybe that's the route, but I think Corner early in the draft is going to become very enticing if Peters doesn't re-sign and Clark is gone.
Had assumed it would be cb or wr with the first pick. Small chance DL depending on if someone super talented fell.

Like you said too, Kyle played mostly slot and we're not exactly sure what we'd get from him in a strictly safety role. Would guess they're looking for trade partners with Clark. Wonder what we could get for him.

If you're gonna overhaul you have to overhaul. That means whether you like it or not, making one move in the draft and one in FA. That's why I think you need to round out the room with guys like DRob. They make sense at the back of a roster. Not at the front. And they'll be cheap.

yep think a bunch of those guys come into camp - a bunch of guys at the minimum and maybe a few with slightly bigger deals like 2019 basically

we had willie snead on a 2yr 7m deal, seth roberts on a 1y 2m deal, drafted Hollywood and Boykin in rounds 1 and 3 (also a year we had no 2nd round pick FYI) and also brought in a guy like Michael Floyd on the minimum with 0 guarantees

we've already got Bateman, we'll probably draft someone with 1 of our first 2 picks, and i imagine (if Lamar's extended) that we can sign someone a bit better than willie snead and seth roberts... but that sort of idea i think might be what we go for

gonna bring in lots of competition at every spot in the WR depth chart

He was considered more "NFL ready" than pepe, but who became our CB4?

he also wasnt - he had a better profile in terms of size and athleticism and a bunch of tape but Pepe was clearly the guy with the more NFL-ready tape with the way he was moved across multiple spots on the backend and asked to do so many different things in college

id say looking at the class, more likely EDGE than DL

this EDGE class is stacked in the 1st round

my guess is they'll hope the BPA is a WR or a CB - but i would not be surprised if we hear an EDGE in R1 if we stay at our pick

Well that is what the scouts told me

Edge & CB kind of work together, so I'd be good with an Edge. If we could only draft 4 positions, I'd go Edge, WR, CB, and a toss up between QB, RB, DL, or OL.

If you have an EDGE group consisting of Oweh, Ojabo, Bowser, and Houston I think you're in really good shape. Unleash the nightmare. Oweh NEEDS to step up and be that guy in year 3. He's capable and I hope David can help him. Houston too.

i mean just generally, excluding QB, if you had to pick 4 positions to focus on (all things being equal), i think basically every GM would tell you that you should take WR, CB, EDGE, LT and DL (if they can pass rush) as the 5 most high value positions you could go after

just so happens that outside of LT, we could do with help at any of those 4 other positions
