The 2023 Offseason Thread

What did he do?
Nothing. I assume he's just suggesting that if he's still partially injured, falls behind in the offseason (which he will) and then isn't getting solid target volume or even playing time, is he going to complain about it?

Assuming full health, which probably isn't realistic, at least one of Bateman, OBJ, Flowers or Andrews is not going to have a tremendously productive year. And so its just a question of what that player thinks about it.

Not saying he will but also not saying he wont but if bateman starts crying, do we trade him?
I hope not. We're going to have few enough WRs under contract for '24 as it is. I don't like the precedent of the Ravens being the team where you just have to ask to get released/traded. I know it doesn't happen every time, but they seem to be more accommodating than most teams.

Its situational. Lamar asked to be traded. He wasn't. Clark asked last year. Wasn't either.

If they think the next contract they'll have to give you is more than what you're worth, and you want out, they'll oblige. Basically what happened with Hollywood.
Can't say I really recall others. Especially higher-end players.

And in reality, with Bateman, its extremely complicated. 2023 is a gigantic year for him. In about 10 months, you have to decide on his 5th year option, which will be for a lot of $. If he's injured or doesn't have a good year, that won't be picked up. Which means he's a UFA in 2025. And at that point, potentially, you have to decide whether what you would get from him if he walks is worth what you would get for him in a trade.

Realistically, if he doesn't perform well, its either because he's injured again, or he's being outplayed by Odell and Flowers. In which case extending Odell makes some sense, and trading or letting Bateman walk after 2024 makes perfect sense. Since you'll still have Odell, Flowers, and Andrews. Along with whoever you bring in during that period.
