Next Up: Vs. Broncos

Hey just curious but I just remembered something. Last year or the year before—I can’t remember which—didn’t we lose Mosley during a game? I can’t remember the details but I know it had something to do with him intercepting someone and trying to do too much. How did that game go when we lost Mosley? Did we have the same thing happen where the defense looked lost?

I’d look it up myself but I don’t have the time for analytics right now

it was the year before...vs the redskins..we ended up losing that game due to the blessed one.
we struggled big time for the 3 weeks he was out if i remember correctly.
As Sami pointed out, it was against the Skins. He either forced a fumble or intercepted Cousins and either dove for the end zone or got tackled before it and lost the ball in the end zone which lead to a touchback and new set of downs for WSH. We then played the Giants and Jets. The Giants game we lost because our beloved CB Jimmy got hurt and was out for the game and OBJ proceeded to go off on all of our other CBs. Against the Jets? Well, I remembered specifically a short pass from Geno to Enunwa that was taken to the house after Orr was too slow to react to make the tackle to stop any gain. We lost 24-16. We had the bye and then won against the Steelers at home after shutting their offense out for like 3 and some quarters.

We did lose him for a couple of games. It was against the Redskins where he intercepted Cousins and nearly ran it back for a TD but sadly he fumbled the ball out of bounds on a tackle and got injured on the play. We were without him against NYJ and NYG and I remember those two games vividly because the Jets game was extreamly frustrating and the NYG game is where OBJ put 200+ yards on us. I think the C.J loss was felt against NYJ because they made plays over the middle of the field, especially Orr who took a horrible angle, looked slow and completely let Quincy Onunwa beat him for a TD with the entire middle of the field exposed. FWIW, this was a game our offense struggled badly in and turned the ball over on their own side of the field multiple times.

As far as the NYG game goes, it wasn't really the loss of C.J rather the absense of Jimmy Smith. We were locking them down for the entire game until Jimmy got knocked out of the game due to a concusion and Young had a "welcome to the NFL moment" where he was beat on some plays deep. It was also a really bad day for Will Davis if I do remember correctly because I remember he got beat badly by Odell on a deep TD. It was really the secondary getting beat on the boundry and that devestating play where Weddle and Young collided with each other that resulted in the 60 yard Odell TD on 4th down.

And all three of those games? Ls by one possession. I don't think we win the Jets game because our offense was nonexistent in the 2nd half. In the WSH game, if Mosley doesn't lose the ball, then we win. In the NYG game, if Juice makes that block on 4th and goal and West scores that TD or Wallace was on page with Flacco and score the TD with like less than a min left (IIRC?), we win that game as well.

If the Raiders can hold them to 20 points, 17 until Denver kicked the GW field goal then I see no reason why we shouldn't come away with a good defensive performance. Even without C.J we're still more talented and better overall then the Raiders defense. Case Keenum is really not that good and we're catching a bread avoiding him.

I'm just really worried about Pittsburgh. I don't look ahead but that one is a game where I expect the defense to wet the bed, just been accustomed to it.

Yeah, and to add onto the Skins game, we didn't immediately break down on defense once C.J went out. We still played very well, we also had a good showing against NYG until Jimmy went out. We could've easily won both of those games and that's whats really frustrating about the whole situation. This defense is still much better then the defense we had in 2016 by a good margin. This unit just needs to put it together and once the pieces all come together, i.e Jimmy Smith, Willie Henry, C.J Mosley, and Tim Williams then I think this defense is primed for a break out year.

barring anymore injuries our season will begin vs the titans or saints. Might need to go on a 8 game winning streak. ( I'm serious).

I highly doubt we would have to go on an 8 game win streak given that the Bills and recent playoff teams have relied on us losing to make the cut. We haven't even see what this team is capable off with Jimmy, Hurst, Henry, and C.J all together. We are still only two games in and lucky for us the Steelers are in complete dysfunction right now.

Not to mention that **even though injuries are never lucky** if CJ is out a couple weeks, having an extra couples days to plan and get other guys up to speed is a luxury that won't be happening after any other game until the bye week.

Bowser did play some ILB in the Bills game, so I'm hoping they push that a little bit more this week as to prevent relying on Peanut/Young exclusively.

I just hope Weddle is the one with the headset, acting as the brains of the defense. We sure as hell don't have any ILBs that can do it while Mosley is down. It has to be Weddle or Suggs.

28 points were scored when Peanut had the headset. 6 were scored when Weddle had it. This coaching staff has stayed committed to some pretty terrible decisions in the past, but I'd be genuinely shocked if its not Weddle.

it was only 6 because of flacco giving the ball away in FG range with the turnover by shawn williams.

notice that when tavon young has a bad game it's REALLY bad.

It’s because as a slot corner you’re exposed going either way and covering the whole field and you can’t really fall back on pressing the guy at the line - so when I guy gets you he gets you on toast

The Patriots just re-signed Cyrus Jones to their 53men roster. I'm kind of relieved.

For sure, Cincy had consistently good field position on offense in the second half from the two turnovers and the failed conversion. The defense definitely finished stronger than they started even though some attribution should be given to Cincy going pretty conservative on offense.

I hate going off body language and stuff, but it just seemed like Peanut had everyone confused on defense in the first half, which might be a big reason why the defense blew 28 points as soon as Mosley left, but came back to earth in some ways in the second half. Makes me think that things won't be as bad as that 28 point meltdown every week that Mosley is out.

not only did he fumble the ball through the endzone, but the skins marched down the field for a TD on the drive, putting them ahead.

There were other mistakes in that game. I'm pretty sure this was the game where Tucker lined up as a left footed kicker, which I saw coming from a mile away. That failed and Perriman only getting one foot in bounds on the final drive that could have sealed the win.
