This is pretty wild and incredibly painful to watch in real time. It’s partly execution, but this falls heavy on the coaches failing to adjust to the adjustments

really good with the game script but not that good in the rhythm of the offence
we've all seen that 4th quarter play-calling, but maybe monken's losing confidence beyond the scripted plays

we certainly seem to consistently get less aggressive as the game goes on

obviously some of this is down to execution too...

I think it's a deeper philosophical problem, personally. There still seems to be this thought that we can just pound the ball on the ground and run the clock when we're up like we used to, but that's not the team we are at this point. We get ultra conservative late and regularly put the offense in 3rd & 7 types of situations because we run the ball on 1st and 2nd down and only grab a yard or two.

you can steal from Roman as much as you like, but dude was a running game savant and this offence was a super aggressive running team late in games

we dont have the creativity in the running game (nor the cutthroat run game playcalling) late in games to kill teams the way we could

if our identity is going to remain what it was late in games, we might as well have kept Roman

Exactly. Use Lamar, andrews, check downs, play action, YAC, and scrambles to move the chains and maintain possession when protecting a lead, take what the defensive gives, this in turn opens the run game, especially the options. The idea of forcing runs over and over and passing on third down just doesn’t work anymore.

That said, none of it works when guys drop the fucking ball. So don’t drop the fucking ball and maybe we stop leaning on Gus when he’s averaging 1YPC against 8 man fronts late in games.

we've got weapons (albeit significantly under-performing ones) in the pass game for the first time
yet we rely on Gus (minus early-career explosion) and Hill at the end of games

put it in the hands of your playmakers - and not just on 3rd down (statistically the worst down for passing)

if he keeps producing, we'll pay him
dude's always had the talent, now that he's getting the results and ascending, we'll keep him surely...
we havent historically let guys like that go
D line is one position where the Ravens have been prepared to let talent walk - Judon, Zadarius, Haloti (sort of)

we've let EDGEs go
but when we've found interior DL we've liked, we've kept them - we just havent had that many guys worth keeping...
at EDGE we've let basically anyone go who's not in the HoF conversation
True. They even brought back Pierce, who they liked and probably would've kept if Brandon W wasn't around.

Whereas they haven't given even a Calais style FA contract to an Edge since Dumerville and that was only because of a fax machine fuck up.

Madubuike is the best DL we've drafted in years. If we keep him we most likely will have a structure with voidable years built in.

I find it extremely difficult to believe we will let Madubuike / Patrick Queen and Clowney get away. That's just too many sacks to let go. Add in Geno Stone to boot.

On injury front, looks like Seymour, Williams, and Darby (new to the report) were out today. Everybody else was either LP or FP.

So shaping up like Seymour and Williams will be out Sunday, and will see what the issue with Darby is (could just be rest). Urban and Clowney back at practice, so they should be fine.

Also need to see if Harrison clears concussion protocol, and then if the plan is for Oweh to be back this week or next week.

But otherwise certainly getting healthier.

EDC needs to get off the voidable year crack. Right now we have 23 mil in dead money from the crack unless we resign some of these guys. Gotta understand Lamar is getting 11 mil more and as it stands now we have the 23 mil in crack money and when the cap rises next year we really not gaining cap on nothing.

Just spousing off but the only reason we did all these voidables this year was to do a run this year and then start working thru the drafts to handle Lamar's bigger hits

The voidable years was necessary for a couple reasons. Most important was putting us in position to match any offers that came in for Lamar. The other reasons would be to sign some needed players to go into the season. We haven't used voidable years prior to this season, so it's possible we may not using them going forward or maybe in certain situations.

We have 21.1m in dead cap from voidable years contracts, but agree it's too much going forward.
