this is how crazy free agency has been already - we've got 31 comp pick eligible player contracts before free agency even technically starts
obviously these cut offs and boundaries are not official (and wont ever be) but if anything i think the 3rd rounder cutoff might be too high given the boundary increase between 2017-18 - either way it affects us not at all because CJ and ZDS got monster contracts and unless we go big on a UFA who wasn't a cap casualty those 3rds are likely nailed on
if we do get ingram (if that's actually happening), ideally he would come in below 8m to preserve the likely 4th rounder we'd get for john brown too
Cap has been increasing for years now(was about 120 in 2013 and now up to about 180. A contract worth 10% of the cap in 2013(12 mil) is now worth 18 mil. A lot of players aren't paid to reflect that change so there is a large excess in cap room out there. And that is before we get into all the teams that rolled over large amounts(looking at you Cleveland).
At the end of the day with all this money teams have to spend with plenty of room under the cap and an alright FA class but nothing special, it results in a lot of players getting overpaid.
