The Offseason Thread

You do know that I was joking with you. I am serious though when I say I respect Tom Landry, but damn I can’t stand the cowboys, soooooo

I do not like the Cowboys either because of Jerry Jones. Remember what he did to Coach Landry? ...I HATE the Squeelers the most!

Good, I feel like I'm in the minority as far as wanting him back for a extended time
I'm also glad he got extended. We know what we have in Harbaugh and what areas need to be worked on.
Romo said on one of our games that Harbaugh wanted to run this style of defense and therefore designed it together with Wink.

Harbaugh "Designed it"? :giggle:
Remember he is a SP "specialist" yet our SP sucked... how many TD's have we given up on KR/PR during his tenure? Oh yea let's put our 1st/2nd rd picks on SP so they can learn something we didnt draft them to do. Let's fool the opposing def by lining up Flacco at WR. Lol unbelievable

I really disagree that Mosley isn’t among the elite ILBs in the league. You saw how he played down the stretch and he’s like having a coach on the field lining everyone up. No, he’s not as good as Kuechly or Wagner, but he’s top 5. If his contract his higher than Kuechlys I wouldn’t be surprised. Especially since his contract was 3.5 yrs ago when the salary cap was over 30m less than it is now. His contract will look like a steal in a few yrs as well with the new CBA also.

One thing to look forward to is our defense getting some more talent. Despite our really high ranking as a unit, only our CBs are a stud group (Humphrey, Smith, Young, and Carr are all top twenty at their position). We had safeties that couldn't cover that well besides possibly Levine, our D-line is Pierce, a hurt Henry, and then some rotational pieces, Suggs slowing a bit with age, Mosely is pretty good but not among the elite, and ZDS was only really good at getting inside pressure. Good as a unit, but not many standout players. A true free safety and another pass rusher (interior or exterior) could turn this into easily the best defense in the league. The type that keeps teams to under ten in most games.

This has got to be one of the least intellectual posts on here

Romo must have learned this in one of their production meetings with Harbaugh.
I don't know how much Harbaugh is involved in the offense. Remember Harbaugh is a former db coach and S.t coordinator.
Our special teams are constantly in the top5 so their concepts work pretty well.

Did we even give up one S/T TD this entire season?

So John Harbaugh was introduced as a Third Ravens Head Coach 11 years ago today, and today eleven years later he is signing a second/third extension.

Pertaining to the article @RavensMania and Zrebiec or whatever his name is posted, it is not going to be sustainable to run the ball 65% of the time and that is true... But that's more due to the scheme we ran the back half of the season. Go back and watch the Kollman video. Some people see gimmick by Roman, I see genius. I won't mention my two favorite oline starters but to have an effective rushing attack shows that Roman is learning and progressing. Also shows how absolutely imperative it is. Give Lamar a good, non gimmicky offensive line and the offense is going to be set.

Which leads me to my second point. We are going to have capital to spend after Flacco, Weddle, and possibly Jimmy are gone. SPEND IT ON PASS RUSHERS(notice the plural) and a FS. With how often Wink blitzes, we need guys who can apply the pressure. Multiple of them since we will have virtually no chance of securing an elite pass rusher. You have yourself an offense that can pound the balll down your throat at will wth a defense that can pressure you to no end with a really good secondary, you're going to have 10+ wins.

I'd also tell everyone to temper their expectations. Lamar was indeed atrocious in the postseason. It's nothing to worry about long-term, he was a rookie and is young, and the lack of talent on the oline was exposed by one of the best defensive coordinators in the business. Lamar needs to become better at reading the defenses post-snap. It's a concern for the majority of rookie quarterbacks unless your name is Andrew Luck.

Something else to note that not many people are bringing up. Hopefully we can look past the tweets made by Ricard years and years ago, but given today's PC culture where everyone gets offended by everything, I wouldn't bank on it. We could be in the market for a full back. It's a power scheme, and Lamar is not going to be running as much read option next season, at least he shouldn't. We need to start running more plays under center for him and relying more on the running back in the hope of preserving the guy. Smash mouth offense calls for smash mouth solutions, and a versitle fullback might just be what the doctor ordered. One that is a good pass catcher on top of being a good blocker. Losing Juice two years ago sucked lol, and Ricard is a good player and I hope we can look past what he did, but given the culture of today, I doubt it.

I just posted the article, but I don’t agree with it. I do believe we dial it back a little and hopefully get more balanced next season.

More balanced sure, but this team should be a run first team. We've re-established an identity as a run first, defensive built team with Lamar. Best to keep it that way. It might not be a bad idea to get ourselves a bell cow RB either to take the pressure off of the guy.
