The Offensive Line Thread

High end starter is a 1st. I was saying mediocre starter to get a 2nd for that a team likely has a better option (after all no team is going to neuter their own offensive line without significant compensation).
Teams let guys on big contracts go for 4th rounders all the time.

We won’t find a pro bowler on a rookie contract lol but it’s not impossible to find a quality starter on the tail end of his 2nd deal that a team wants to part with for cap reasons.

Because WE need a C so desperately we just know that no team in the league would ever part with such a thing, but teams look to part ways with guys all the time, quality players but the numbers just don’t work anymore for cap reasons, just like we let flacco go for a 4th, and qbs are more important than centers.

I’m glad we’re cutting deadweight like this, shows a massive cultural change from the Ozzie days, where Ozzie and harbaugh both seemed to wanna hang onto certain guys for just too long, expecting more from less capable players, Alex Lewis seemed to be one of those guys and now he’s gone, he was always massively overrated by harbaugh and he isn’t starting caliber and I’m glad that’s obviously been recognized.

And as much as I hate hurst, I like hurst over Alex Lewis.

It’s also a resounding yes on powers at this point, getting nearly all starter reps and then cutting the guy who was looking like the de facto starter.

Flacco is an awful example. The Ravens already had a new QB who was going to start and only 1 QB can be on the field at one time. In this case you are saying a team needs to have a new C on the roster and wants to get rid of their old one (rather then say trying to move one to G) rather then keep him which means he must be worse then either guard as well. I can think of few teams that are sitting on such solid OLine depth.

powers or eluemunor are being given every opportunity to win this job - reporters getting the impression that eluemunor is the guy the coaches want to win the job but that powers is being given as much opportunity as he could possibly want to win this job - i think we see a lot of rotation of these guys through preseason games 1 and 2 - so that hopefully we have our starting line on the field for the first drive of preseason 3

Any word on Bozeman winning the Center position from Skura?

oh he's astronomically better than gino gradkowski and probably zuttah too tbh - he's assignment sound and great for pulling guards but i really worry about that anchor vs the massive nose tackles we have on the schedule
That is what worries me so much with him. He is a liability with strong/massive nose tackles. If we still had K.O. plus Yanda, I would be okay with him. With Powers, Hurst, and Eluemenor.....I am a little concerned tbh.
