really interesting stuff to come out of today's practice
Hollywood not on the field (recovering as part of the process apparently) - not majorly worried given that this is the first time he's missed since he got cleared - id imagine he's just experiencing some soreness or something
Patrick Mekari getting some first team reps along with Eluemunor at LG while Powers is playing almost completely with the 2s - Mekari's reps with the 1s apparently coming off the back of Harbs and the coaching staff being impressed with how he played vs the Jags
A load of kickers were trying out today - i imagine we sign one before thursday so that Tucker doesnt have to take all the reps in preseason 2

If Mekari produces against the Packers this week I can see us keep him over eleumanor even if eleumanor proves to be just a hair better. Mekari is 22 years old and is under team control for a longer time.
Eluemunor is being given every chance to succeed but i just havent seen it - he seemed to do ok at tackle in a pinch last year but if we keep Senat then i think any value eluemunor has if he loses the LG job is completely diminished
it sounds like with Powers running mostly with the 2s that Mekari might get a chance vs some better competition in this packers game (at least i hope)

Wonder if the Jets would have gone higher than a 5th if we had waited to trade him after the news that Jets K Chandler Catanzaro is retiring from the NFL.

We also risk Vedvik's stock dropping if he misses a kick or two in the next game. By all accounts, he has been very meh in practice and made the most of the few kicks he had in the preseason last year and last week.

I think Powers is running with the 2's just because we are comfortable with where he is at and we want to use practice to evaluate any talent below him. We may be using that LG spot with the 1's as a way to give fringe guys a shot to prove themselves.
I’d feel more confident in that evaluation if powers had played with any decent units in preseason game 1 - the fact he didn’t enter the game until the 2nd half doesn’t really suggest to me he’s a likely starter at this point but maybe I’m wrong

No man! I think Erik made the right call. What if Vedvik missed a couple of opportunities this week against the Packers? Greed could've backfired with no trade and just a release.

And no team has traded a 5th round pick for a kicker since 1996 so it's safe to say that we made out very well.

Im loving the Boykin , Andrews Red Zone combo this year. Both are big time end zone targets.

Jaleel Scott will also make the team and will be another huge red zone target as well.
