I mean if every team in the league is willing to trade for him and has the cap space it still does not matter because Clowney can just veto the team because they cannot trade him unless he is willing to sign franchise tag. So its not that 1/3 of the league cant trade for him its that the only teams that can trade for Clowney are the teams Clowney is willing to play for.

If the Browns were willing to offer a 2nd and a player as, but Clowney says no, the deal is dead.
besides, if he didn't sign the franchise tag from the Texans and went through the season not playing for the team, the Texans could start the process again. He wouldn't be a free agent.

GMs should not keep playing this game. Players are realizing their power.

Good, that means better players go to better teams and showcase their skills.

I hate what happened to Fitzgerald.

Word. It's a shame Megatron (among others) came and went before all this stuff started playing out.

To our detriment, I would have preferred to see him get traded to the Pats and be allowed to play for a team like the Pats.

I assume he would come in week 9 so that next year it counts for 120% AND they have to waste cap space on a player who they know won't report when they have to build through free agency.

Yeah but Fitzgerald signed extension after extension with the Cardinals, when he didn't have to. He put himsf in that position. Players go for the money with bad teams(I don't blame them, we do the same) and that's it.

Do you guys think that with players realizing their power now, maybe there will be another Elway/Eli situation in the draft one day? Clowney didn't want to play for Miami, could Tua or Herbert play the same game and prefer to play for someone else and demand a trade?

I don't see it happening now. Players want to be the first pick and as bad as you may think the Dolphins are, it's not like they're the Redskins. Being the first pick is a badge to them... and very good for them monetarily.

DERWIN JAMES
DB, LOS ANGELES CHARGERS

Chargers placed SS Derwin James on injured reserve with a stress fracture in his right foot.
This was the expected outcome for James, who was lost to a stress fracture midway through training camp. Early reports pegged him for a 3-4 month recovery, suggesting there's still a chance we see the All-Pro safety suit up at some point this year. The Chargers will likely use their roster vacancy to bring back Jaylen Watkins, who was among their final cuts Saturday.

MELVIN GORDON
RB, LOS ANGELES CHARGERS

Chargers GM Tom Telesco has informed holdout RB Melvin Gordon that contract negotiations will be suspended until after the season.
Gordon will now have to decide if his weekly game check ($330,000) is worth risking an injury that would jeopardize a long-term contract. That decision hasn't been announced, but we'll find out shortly. Gordon still has to show up by Week 10 for this season to count towards his free agency, so this isn't exactly a Le'Veon Bell situation. With the Chargers bye week not until Week 12, Gordon could miss more than half of the season if he chooses. If so, Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson will split work in what should be a 60/40 timeshare.

Seems like Gordon will be holding out like Bell did last year. Cowboys are set to pay Elliott a lot with a new contract so I'm curious if Gordon is waiting until Zeke gets paid.

Cowboys and OT La’el Collins reached agreement on a five-year contract extension that ties him to Dallas for the next six seasons, per source. It will make Collins one of the NFL’s five-highest paid RTs.

JARED GOFF
QB, LOS ANGELES RAMS

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Rams are signing Jared Goff to a four-year contract extension.
The deal is expected to include the most guarantees in NFL history, as it pays Goff approximately $32 million annually. It's a forward-thinking move that locks up their franchise quarterback through the 2024 season. As we've seen time after time, these long-term quarterback contracts seem expensive on the signing date, but they become relatively affordable as the salary cap increases year over year. Goff averaged 8.4 yards per attempt in the regular season last year before leading the Rams to a lousy Super Bowl appearance.

Rap Sheet says it is a 4 year contract extension worth $134M with a record $110M GUARANTEED!

That's $33.5 annually.

Pro Bowler
Cowboys signed Ezekiel Elliott to a six-year, $90 million contract extension.
The deal includes a whopping $50 million guaranteed. Zeke's $15 million annually not only surpasses Todd Gurley's previous league-high mark of $14.375 million per year, it officially makes the 24-year-old Cowboys star the league's all-time highest-paid runner and ties him to Dallas through the 2026 season. Archer reports Elliott will be on the field practicing Wednesday, but there's been no word on any limitations or timeshare as he settles back in post-Cabo holdout. Assuming he's good to go for Sunday, Elliott is a clear-cut top-five fantasy option in Dallas' season opener against the Giants.

With QBS its probably VERY smart to ramp up guaranteed dollars to keep average per year down because he will see all of it because he is a QB.
