I agree, but remember that Lockett started out playing mostly ST. If we could find someone similar then we start him out at ST, where we haven't really had a dynamic returner since Jacoby left, and then we work on turning him into a dangerous WR. Obviously, if it works out then you can have him play less ST to not risk a big injury.
You dam sure right.. i forgot he was playing ST at first and got injured..

Do you remember last year when people wanted to cut or trade Jimmy. I don't remember everyone who wanted to keep him, but I know the two of wanted to keep the gang together, including both Carr and Jimmy. Now we all are looking forward to him playing again.

I'm just interested to see how Humphrey, Peters, Jimmy and Carr will be used and rotated.

People said it again this year. I know I said I’d part with him if it meant a big upgrade elsewhere, but not for no reason. I’d even bring back 22 next year because you can’t have enough CB but it depends on his cost. Jimmy usually does well against TB though. I still remember his ridiculous fingertip interception against Brady. What a catch! If we can bring back Carr and Smith and keep Peters, our secondary looks legit ridiculous with Humphrey, Smith, Peters, Young, Carr and someone else. That’s a scary CB corps right there. I think Peters and Humphrey are priorities in terms of extensions, but Smith would closely follow them and I don’t think he’ll get a ton of attention due to the injury history. He is good though so I doubt we can get him for peanuts. I’m guessing something like 7M/year.

Not so sure we will be bringing Jimmy back. He would have to want to come back on a discount. Carr we still have another option on and his flexibility is a strength. QB's also only have around 60 qbr against him, so he is still doing well and mostly out of position. I agree that Peters is a priority.

One interesting thing that Ken McKusick said is he had a conversation with cap guru Brian McFarland and he said it's possible Pierce could be less than what we think and if that were the case, we could end up franchising Peters and then working out a long term extension with him.

I believe the order of extensions is as follows:
  • Ronnie Stanley is a must this offseason as he goes into his 5th year option next year. (blank check)
  • Extending Peters or Franchise and extend
  • Humphreys 5th year option would be 21-22 season, if we can extend him early that would be a good idea as well (blank check)
Only extend Pierce or Judon if reasonable

Agreed on all accounts. I think we should prioritize Humphrey to avoid an issue with him and Peters in terms of contract. If we can do Peters first then Humphrey then that’s ideal since Marlon will rightly cost more. Pierce would be a nice to have but I wouldn’t mind upgrading on him either. I’m open minded in terms of the draft and pass rusher and would love to target an edge guy but wouldn’t mind an interior guy to blow up the middle either. I’m not enamoured with Judon and wouldn’t pay him big dollars. He’s a comp pick to me.

As you say, Judon's a comp pick to you. He may even be a 3rd round comp pick as Pierce will probably end up one as well. Of course one will most likely be cancelled out with a free agent signing, which is fine with me.

I'd keep pierce let judon walk, same with jimmy and carr and make Clowney the FA signing for us. He fits exactly what we look for in an OLB.

Just not sure that we keep Peters and Smith. It's really hard to gauge what they will get on the FA market. I lot actually will depend on what they do the remainder of the year with us. If they both play the way we want them to, they will probably price themselves so that we just can't swing both.

I'd agree, I think Smith walks and Peters signs an extension and I don't think they plan on extending Smith at all.

Looks like we will have Peanut, Hollywood, and Jimmy back for the Pats game. Wish we had McPhee and Tavon, but hopefully we stay healthy down the stretch.

That’s a no brainier but I’m not sure that:
a) Clowney becomes a FA
b) He wants to sign here unless we throw crazy $$$ his way

There’s no question you keep Marcus over Jimmy but I don’t know what Smith’s value will be as a 31 (32 when the season begins) CB frequently injured. We may not even want him back, but I’m saying if he’s got a cool market and no takers and we’ve signed Peters, Humphrey and Stanley I’d keep Jimmy around on a cheap deal if it came to that. Cheap being relative since he would cost probably around 6-7M. Could be even less a la Jason Verrett.

Damn.

I actually work from home, so could watch but just wanted to avoid any surprises, like urgent client on site work (happened before), for this particular game.

Yeah, if Jimmy gets paid more elsewhere, we let him walk. Peters long term is a must. Franchising him would it too much cap next year - better bring someone else in (pass rush, DL).
