General Draft Thoughts

lol those 3 in the 1st (Ruiz, Reagor, Baun) are always my go-to in my mock drafts.

Then 2nd round I go (greenard or Denzel Mims)

3rd i always look for Akeem Davis-Gaither or van jefferson

4th is shane lemieux, Tyler Johnson and 1 of the DTs: Jordan Elliot, Leki Fotu, or Davon Hamilton.

i honestly think shane lemieux and jordan elliott are for sure gone before the 4th round and that there's a high chance that all 3 of those other guys are gone too

I prioritize YGM and Patrick queen, but those 3 are my fallbacks lol.

mims is often my round 2 fallback, I see Curtis weaver and kj hamler fairly often at 2 and that’s always my go to, but I’ve been liking DPJ lately and i was feeling spicy lol.

if cam Akers is there in 3 I always go with him, I think he’s gonna go way later than he should and he’s about to be a star In the league. That just feels like a ravens pick that helps define The next 4 years.

ive gone off YGM since i learnt about all the hazing stuff at penn st and the fact that they were apparently honouring jerry sandusky etc. - would make me really uncomfortable with him coming in here

Curtis Weaver I just dont see the same way as some of you and that's fine lol

but Mims, KJ Hamler, Peoples-Jones, Cam Akers are all guys im big fans of

Cam Akers is going to be a steal. His oLine let him down. But it’s hard to see us keep 4 RBs and Ricard on the 53.

Someone like trace McSorley gotta go then.

trace mcsorley is going to have to earn his roster spot - he doesnt get a freebie - this is his offseason to beat out RGIII - if he doesnt or he doesnt earn a role somewhere else on the team then he probably gets waived (and hopefully added to the PS but ultimately we probably wont mind given that RGIII has been running the scout team the last 2 years anyway)

I haven’t heard about any of that

why the fuck would anyone honor Sandusky? Paterno maybe, but not Sandusky, that’s really questionable

id be happy with either ruiz or reagor there

would definitely astronomically prefer alton robinson over kenny willikes
I’ve noticed you really dislike willekes, Robinson all I saw was a super raw speed rush and nothing else, but I didn’t do much study on him.

its pretty disgusting what went on and he was one of the guys named in the lawsuit

this is the lede of one article but you can find similar all over the internet:

A former Penn State football player is suing the University -- claiming star players violently hazed younger players ... and made sexual threats invoking noted child rapist Jerry Sandusky.

The man behind the suit is Isaiah Humphries -- a defensive back who says he accepted a full scholarship to Penn State beginning in 2018.

But, Humphries says life as a Nittany Lion was hell -- with several upperclassmen players including Damion Barber, Micah Parsons, Yetur Gross-Matos and Jesse Luketa leading a campaign of hazing against the new players.

robinson is a guy who is a bit of a projection, he's pretty raw but he has flashes and tools that project well to the pros - he has reps where he's completely nullified and reps where he looks uncontainable - needs to get more comfortable with his body but he has lots of traits that you look for in a rusher and the functional strength to hold up at the LoS and the athleticism to threaten tackles in both directions

robinson's a bit of a tough evaluation but its hard not to get sucked in by his traits and natural talent

willikes to me is an undersized bull-rusher who has some technical ability but not the athleticism to really succeed in the NFL as a pass rusher - he's someone who might come in and do well as a rotational edge setter and occasional flex pass rusher but i dont see many traits i like as a pass rusher - very 1 note - so its not that i dont like willikes - its more that i dont like willikes until the 5th round at which point id be pretty fine and happy with him but mostly as an edge in the running game there

Another thing I saw with Robinson is just awkward movements, he does a lot of squared shoulder rushes where he’s just stuttering back and forth and making no progress, really strange, so much work to do for him.

and willekes man I just disagree, I don’t see a bull rusher nor do I see undersized, I see a properly built 3 down edge guy who admittedly doesn’t have the highest ceiling, but brings a respectable first step, and has some excellent rush moves to go with natural bend and a shitload of hustle.

I like his heavy af hands, love his pad level, and his rips and jabs and the lower body flex to bend the corner. I don’t think he’s some stud, but I think he’s a player, I think he’s got a place in this league and before his injury he was projected to be a 2nd. That injury slowed him down on his return but I expect him to come back from it, he did lose quite a step since the injury

you're right he's not a bull rusher - i was being a bit simplistic - but on most of his rushes i just see him try and go up the middle of a tackle using a long-arm (or jab - whatever you want to call it lol) and that's about it - he has some burst and his ability to move laterally to penetrate in the run game is probably his best attribute

i agree he's definitely got a place in the league i just dont think its as a consistently successful pass rusher - id be happy with him in the 5th or later but i think he's going to go higher

you could be right about the injury - i only watched 2019 tape and the senior bowl so maybe ill have to go back to 2018 for willikes but he just seemed to me to be very one note in his pass rush and ultimately not athletic enough to consistently win the arc - he will live and die with that jab as a pass rusher from what ive seen in the 2019 film (and senior bowl)

also schematically looks more like a 4-3 End in a 1-gap than a 2-gap EDGE

I think if you watch 2018 tape you’re gonna bump him up to at least a fourth rounder, if you assume he returns to that form.

also I think he looks the part of a 3-4 Edge he’s just gotta develop. I see the skillset, using leverage, length, and power to control OTs when rushing, to shed blockers quickly when the play goes to his inside, stuff like that, he hasn’t played much other than 3 point stance DE and attacked, but we like to attack and I also see things that look like it would translate

how does john eisenberg have a job?

the ravens do a great job in every department except the media personality/writer department - how do they let someone like sarah ellison only really write the LFW column every day and then let here leave and yet mink, downing and eisenberg are still there and going strong espousing absolute rubbish

It's quite understandable - they are not real journalists, just glorified fans. That's what's required to write for the official site.

If we could pick up two of these guys first two days, it'd be nice. Three of them - Bob's your uncle.

100% only one of those i dont agree with is lynch - he feels to me like a high effort and motor guy more than anything else - id take him in the 4th but would not be crazy about him with one of our day 2 picks

everyone else id be ecstatic with basically any combination of those guys

Yep, I have Lynch in 3rd but would really like him at 5-tech.
