Except it's not just one game. It's the Bills playoff loss where we only score a Field Goal. It's the fact that every playoff game we kept scoring less and less points. Chargers it was 17, Titans it was 12 then Buffalo 3. It's the same thing over and over with Roman.

The unimaginative so predictable play calling, zero awareness to adjusting what the defense is giving you. Like how does Miami run the same thing over and over and there is no adjustments being made to stop it. We've reached Cam territory with Roman, time to take the handcuffs off Lamar.

Except that’s not what happened...
the chargers loss was Marty not GRo

The first titans loss wasn’t on Roman at all either - that was all on poor execution by the receivers and the OL - we moved the ball with ease that titans game but some crucial turnovers and drops ruined that game for the ravens

Not sure what the complaint is about the bills game?

Also what is up with the sudden surge of 'fire Roman' comments? We're just a few weeks removed from people giving him props for developing an explosive downfield passing game, we're playing with running backs we found on Craigslist, and the OL is battered to breaking point. The offense has been good most of the year - coaches have bad games too. We're always veering from one extreme to the other on here.
Because last night was inexcusable, the fact that an nfl OC could not figure out how to beat engage eight with sticks coverage literally all night with no disguise or anything, is inexcusable. Last night Greg Roman had the easiest test an NFL OC could ever ask for and he failed in spectacular fashion.

I was not on the fire Roman train AT ANY POINT until last night and it’s well earned

Some positives from last night:
-Patrick queen is officially on a hot streak, he’s playing damn good football

-oweh, when given the chance to line up on the edge and just rush, is damn near unstoppable, oweh had an inside rush like I’ve never seen before, he timed the snap and FIRED off and the tackle set so wide that he left a 4 yard B gap, oweh didn’t even have to counter, he didn’t have to slow momentum, he just speed rushed inside, that OT was terrified and took himself out of the play with his own pass set, and the best part is the pass rush snap prior that, he fired off and took the tackle way past the pocket with a huge gap, he set that up. When he’s given the chance to rush from the 7, he is scary effective and he develops so fast. Stop taking him out of the game wink!

-not sure about any possible miscues but westry from what I saw looked like a keeper, we might have ourselves a secondary if we can straighten out these communication issues with the safeties

-Bateman is the real mf deal

I was screaming the exact same thing.

Then they did it. And Watkins fumble sixed-it to seal the game essentially.

So yeah that was fun.
Instead Roman was throwing outside passes in the flats which the Dolphins gobbled up .

And why the hell didnt we go no huddle to start the second half to try to get something going?

Just pathetic.

I'm not sure I want Watkins back next year. Always gets hurt and made two critical mistakes last night ,the missed td throw where he just stopped for some reason and the fumble /Dolphins td.

but I don’t think that stuff about route combos is accurate at all - passing concepts have been pretty good all year... you’re over-reacting to an awful game

because this stuff hasn’t been happening all year

in fact we spent the last 4 days talking about how the ravens have been great in the 2nd half because they have been able to adjust and take what the defence gave them - and a lot of that is roman’s playcalling

one awful night does not an awful season make

I'm just not sure. We talked about how cool it is that we could take what the other team was giving us. That is true, more often than not we have been able to. However it's been with heroics from Lamar and huge amounts of improvisation by our best guys, Andrews and Hollywood. I don't think what they've done has anything to do with the fact that real NFL analysts look at what Roman calls and see big issues. And then with respect to last night, we didn't take what we were given at all and also didn't even attempt anything other than unblocked screen passes. It's OK to underperorm or undercoach a game. Sometimes the other team is better than you. But it's another thing to be so bad with what appeared to be lack of effort and sense of urgency or adaptability. Yesterday he was unidimensionally bad and nothing ever changed. That's not acceptable. To be bad and try to get out of it and fail is one thing. To be bad and not even try or attempt the literal high school basics is another thing.

Yeah, if Roman just had an "off night" then I would give him a pass based off the rest of this season, but that was one of the most disgusting performances by an offense that I've ever seen and that's including the Boller era. It was like the Dolphins were playing us in a game of Madden on Rookie mode where the opponent's AI is so fucking stupid that it doesn't know how to react to blitzing every play and can barely muster a first down. Absolutely pathetic.

If we fired a coach after every stinker, we’d be going through coaches like crazy and we’d have no rhythm. I get Roman had probably one of his worst coaching nights ever but he’s made a lot of changes this year in his passing concepts and is working with horrid personnel on about half of the offense. It was an incredibly poor showing but you don’t make decisions like that based on 1 game. If you ask me, I think the bigger problem is that they have absolutely no trust in the OL right now. They know they’re barren there.

This was my other question - if Lamar's walking to the line and he sees the same old engage 8 with nobody in the middle of the field, surely he has the option to check in to a slant?

my guess is there's specific checks that come in with the playcall that he can check to - he cant just redesign a play on the go - only time you'll really see a complete play change is if you have a run call or something but a receiver's got a massive cushion outside and you check to that 1 man concept (because all you're doing is changing 1 guy's job rather than the whole play structure)

i think this is also partly made difficult by Roman's offence because the playcalls are so long and complex (and we saw last night that it meant that we were constantly under threat of delay of games)

but you could certainly question why they didnt call in those slants or put them in as designed checks

that's partly why our only available adjustments were short quick passing because we couldnt trust our guys to pick up the blitzers and only leave lamar with the one outside blitzer

All the pundits keep saying teams have been able to stop our run almost insistent that this is now true forever. I mean, it sucks but we literally lost two star running backs. Dobbins gets that first down on the option pitch that Freeman could not get. Our injuries at running back and our lack of trading to fix it are why our run game is bad

Same here, last night put me on the bandwagon to fire him. I mean, they were clearly blitzing every play and you were just dumbfounded on what to do
