Currently the only reason I have Directv is due to Sunday Ticket, but now that youtube has purchased the rights to Sunday Ticket and it won't be offered on Directv, I'm going to change. I don't have FIOS in my neighborhood so it's most likely going to be either xfinity or dish and I do want local channels as well. Currently my phone and internet are both xfinity due to the unlimited internet capacity.
Thoughts?
I have DirecTv and Fios internet. I'll be canceling Directv on January 9th (day after regular season ends). Already have a reminder on my phone to do it.
Once they no longer have the Ticket, they have nothing to offer me. They're priced same or higher as any other "cable/satellite" provider, and I view very little programming from them. I already pay for lots of the streaming packages (NetFlix, Apple TV, Prime, Paramount, and Disney), and I'm likely switching to Hulu. I can get Hulu + Disney+ + ESPN+ for like $100/month in total less than what I pay Directv.
I'll probably look into YouTube TV total streaming service, but will likely just wait for their Ticket plan to come out and buy it exclusively. I'll also probably go up in one tier on Fios internet to get the "gaming speeds" for faster bandwidth. My employer already pays for like 125% of my internet access.
From a TV perspective, you can pretty much use Hulu (or similar) and have like a half dozen other streaming subscriptions for the price of a monthly Comcast/Directv bill. Unless these cable/satellite platforms adapt and go to a more ad-hoc programming selection, they're going to continue to see revenue plummet.
