TE Thread

Goedert looks awesome, he absolutely dominates, and I love how well the ravens do with small school guys, and I say we stick to our small school formula and all... but god dammit I can't put the stamp on a small school guy in the second lol

why not? if the tape shows it why not?
i mean corey davis went at the 5th pick of the last draft... and a number of other small school guys were going in day 2

Here's how I'd rank them now.

1. Mark Andrews- Guy has no weaknesses in his game. Nice soft hands, great route runner, well above average athleticism, absurd ability to find soft spots in the zones, good after the catch, and a great blocker to boot. If he's there at 16.. Which he should be... We should give the dude a strong look.
2. Dallas Godert- The most athletic TE of the class bar-none... Which is really saying something. Has the highest ceiling in the class.. Which is also saying something given who #1 is.. Freakish athleticism + great body control and strong hands = elite level prospect. If he's there when we pick in round two we should take him and not hesitate in the slightest. Even if we have taken Mark Andrews in round one. Even as a rookie, we could kick him out to the slot and he'd destroy teams.
3. Mike Gesicki- Dennis Pitta clone. Horrid blocker, but probably the best hands in the entire class with underrated body control and route running. He's a bit slower than Pitta, but can jump higher and would be a damn good security blanked in the NFL. Something we are sorely lacking.
4. Hayden Hurst- Well above average athleticism, good hands, good after the catch ability, solid blocker. He's a Travis Kelce clone. That said, the fact that he's 25 is going to hurt his stock a bit. Which is fine... Last time we took a 25 year old TE it worked out pretty well for us.
5. Troy Fumagali- Getting some hate.. He's good. But not as good as some hyped him up to be earlier. Very good at contested grabs, and good blocker and route runner. Not the most athletic person here... But not necessarily lacking in it either.
6. Ian Thomas- Great athleticism. Shit production due to school. Could be a real weapon in this class if he goes to a team that knows how to properly use the TE.

Other words: Damn good class really. Not as good as last year's.. But we need to snag at least one of these six guys. All look like they're going to be good players.

Adam Breneman should be close to the top of that list.

I just don't like Fumagali. I don't see anything special with this dude that tells me he's going to succeed in the NFL. If Maxx Williams can't succeed why would Fumagali?

Am checking out Breneman now..

I like him but I'm not gonna put him up there with the top 4. He's a better prospect than Fumagali in my book but he's not really.. Special. He's a jack of all trades master of none type. At best I see him being a solid player, but he could be better suited as a #2

Going through everyone AGAIN....

1. Troy Fumagali is almost impossible to scout. He's probably the best blocking TE in the class, but he leaves a ton to be desired receiving wise. Though I do think some of that is scheme related. Wisconsin has never really been known for a high flying kickass passing attack with the exception of when Russell Wilson was there.
2. I vehemently disagree with @JoeyFlex5 analysis on Hayden Hurst from the other thread. He's a lot better at contested balls and he's more athletic than Crockett could ever hope to be. I do think if he has a mediocre combine he falls to like the fourth round... But even if we had already drafted a TE at that point we should scoop the dude up if he falls that far for the sake of best player available.
3. Adam Breneman is not all that impressive, sorry @allblackraven. Will be thoroughly dissapointed if we draft him. Nothing special. I see another Nick Boyle type TE.
4. Ian Thomas is a nice receiving TE prospect.
5. Jaylen Samuels is an interesting player. Some people project him as being a TE but I could see him being used more in a James Casey kind of role at the NFL level.

After this the TE class falls off... Hard. But for a TE class it's very good.

Typing up reports for Breneman and Fumagali isn't going to be fun.

I used Crockett for comparisons sake man, because they're very similar, even if one is superior. hurst is more athletic with stronger hands but I do think they're comparable, because I don't think hurst is some stellar athlete as he's still a big lumbering oaf, and I think he's just serviceable in the contested catch department, rather than adept

If they offseason plays out like i think it might... maclin cut, watson retires, wallace re signed, perriman and Williams still sucking (id cut both) id double dip on wr and te if possible

Williams still sucking

williams hasnt been what we hoped but he's hardly sucked - he's not been useful or even used at all as a receiver but he was by far our best run blocker this past year - so much of our running game was predicated on him coming across the line and nailing a defender or at least sealing them off
