2018 State of the Ravens: Bisciotti Solo Edition (2/2/18)

Did Bisciotti give Hurst and shout out?? After being the oline whipping boy he deserves some recognition. I believe he was rated a top10 guard. phenomenal!! Considering his shortcomings at tackle.
new o-line coach joe d'allesandris and greg roman did a hell of a job patching up the line and coaching them up. just think if castillo was still here harbs would have been fired.

It's so weird because Castillo is a highly respected coach around the whole league, his reputation was stellar until he came here

Y?? I didn’t watch the presser but Decosta is as much to blame as Ozzie.
I think this really comes down to the question, why has our draft not been (even close) to standard over the past few years.

1) Ozzie is slipping
2) DeCosta's increased influence
3) Harbaugh's increased influence
4) Depletion in the scouting dept
5) All or some combination of the above

I tend to think it is 5, but I really hope that it is some combination of the above and that #2 is not the reason - because we're putting ourselves squarely behind Eric and we really, really need for him to be top quality.

Some people like to speculate on the process of building the board and who holds what level of influence, but that's all that is - speculation. We've no idea what that is and will never know. I'm just hoping when Eric is in the driver's seat, he drives us in the right direction.

Yes he does deserve real credit. I admit joining in the whipping at times, but it has to be acknowledged that this is an undrafted guy who was thrust into one of the toughest positions in the sport at a very early stage of his career. None of us should be shocked that he struggled.

But the transformation after moving to G was pretty amazing. Because of his ability to move there and be, while not great, at lease rather effective, was a huge boost. For all the excuses that get made about injuries for this team, the o line suffered the most and they (after some pains early on in figuring things out) functioned amazingly well.

In the end, this offense is what it is. Given lack of investment and injury, I think they did their part. Once they got past floundering the first half, they did what was necessary to become a playoff team. The slip from the playoff picture is all about the inconsistency of the defense. Shutouts are nice, but its just a win. Doing that, then turning around and allowing an insane comeback (PIT), then letting a bad Indy team run wild on you and then cough up the season on the infamous 4th and 12 ... well, we know where this season was lost ... on the unit that is supposed to be our strength.

I seen a defense that pitched 3 shutouts. With that defense and Aaron Rodgers we might have a chance at the playoffs lol.
I said it in a previous post, but it is worth stating again. Shutouts are nice, but you have to be consistent. Shutting out a team results in a win, no more, no less. To do that and then to melt down when the pressure is on and you need a stop - it just cancels out the good. The defensive performance in the final 3 games was really shaky. Allowing PIT to roar from behind (again) and then of course, there's the collapse in the last drive vs. the Bengals. While they did finish in the Indy game, when STs put them in a tough situation, they let a bad team run the ball very well - which is supposed to be this team's strength (run D). Actually, 2016 we had a similar struggle - where the run D seemingly just disappeared toward the end of the season.

With the investment on the defense and the offense left to make do - I think 2017 the offense did about what you would expect them to do. Down the stretch, the defense simply did not and that's why we watched the Titans play KC.

He wasn’t all bad, but man nothing like last yr. Castillo is supposed to be a good teacher.

Two thoughts...

1.) We are definitely in play for signing a pricy WR in FA. I think we would pull that move if he's available and if the fit is right.

2.) Some people are under fire.

Think you may be right and many of us are going to be surprised

Fake tron, we need to bring marlontron back.

I wonder if sanders is a target. I can't see Robinson hitting FA, the FA market seems to mostly be lee or sanders or Richardson.

Is a trade on the table you guys think?
We did trade for Boldin all those years ago... I could see us doing something like that

Who could be an option though? I really can't think of any wr out there that fits the criteria of
1. Team sees them as expendable
2. Ravens think he is worth a 3rd or 4th/5th
3. Proper fit that wouldn't be a dumb move

There are so many round4-7 WRs drafted over last couple yrs with so much potential. Like Demarcus Robinson, Higgins, Lawler, Mitchell to name a couple. Ravens need to take more cracks at these dudes. As opposed to one every 2-3 drafts. I was to thinking of somebody who could be available No.1 or too shelf No.2 with No.1 potential under 29 yrs old. Then there is trading for a WR or 2 like Robinson’s and Higgins buried in depth charts. But signing Marqise or Richardson then taking a flyer on somebody like Brice Butler and drafting a couple of WRs In the first 3 rounds is probably the route management takes. I would be very happy with Marqise Lee and Brice Butler while drafting DJ Chark and DJ Moore. I do not wanna wait for expendable declining receivers to be cut
