The WR Thread

SSS called him a complete reciever. Its not just me. I honestly feel like Pettis and Hamilton will be instant contributers to any team that drafts them. They already run an advanced route tree and are able to gain seperation on a consistent basis. They may not have the highest ceilings of other recievers in this class but i dont think they will have a hard time acclimating to the nfl. They have very high floors and i think they would be starters on a lot of teams depth charts. I see Pettis as a 3rd round pick and Hamilton a 4th rounder. Like i said they have limited potential but i think they can be solid contributers early on in their careers
I don't really see Pettis having a very high floor though..

you have an extreme bias for pettis and im not sure why
I dont think hell be that great i just think he will be productive. Hes a guy who can come in and give you 500-700 recieving yards per season and add return value. Im not sure hed fit here other than as a returner and slot guy cause hes clearly not a #1 and his personality is kinda....weird to say the least, seems like a nice kid but i feel like he may get bullied lol. When i turn on the film however i see a fluid athlete with good length and hands who just gets open. I think guys who can come in and run an entire route tree will produce in any NFL offense. Pettis isnt the most explosive athlete but he may be the most fluid. He has no issue with hip fluidity and body control. I just value those traits when it comes to WRs because they need to be able to sell their routes and at the catch point, adust to the ball mid stride.

Ridley, Moore, and Miller are the best imo but Pettis and Hamilton also thrive using this ability even though they may not be as expllsive or productive as the top 3, but thats why their not #1 recievers, but they make a solid #3 option. Pettis was much more productive when Ross was there, and i think hed be very productive as a #3 for a team like ATL or NO. I like him for us because i think wed turn him into another Jacoby Jones but with better hands.

where do you get this full route tree/hands from though? hes fluid but hes not explosive or sudden, you need one or the other to be a real quality route runner, and he doesnt have either, and never showed success on the full route tree in college either, and he certainly doesnt have the aggressive attack-catch mentality nor does he have the confident hands catching ability to snag a ball in traffic or with a defender at his back, making him extremely limited. his skill set just doesnt add up to a quality nfl wr imo, like theres no synergy in the things he does well. average explosion, not very sudden with change of direction, not a great highpointer or traffic catcher, hasnt shown the clutch gene, nothing mindblowing working the sidelines, nothing special in the redzone, not particularly savvy or creative in his route game, most success in college came from returns and sluggo routes, YAC game is nothing noteworthy. i mean i literally just see a fluid guy with decent deep speed and decent length and nothing else worth mentioning. sorry man, ive watched him, thought i was missing something, i still see absolutely nothing that would indicate hes worth any more than a 4th

Yet he is the best punt returner ever in college football yet he has no expolsive traits. I think your selling him short as an athlete but hey. I may be the only person here who actually like him so thats ok.

brian mitchell wasnt explosive either breh

also, hester was the same returner in college that he was in the pros. idc what the numbers say lol hester was and still is the GOAT, college and pros.

With his off field stuff and his underwhelming combine, Jordan Lasley could fall to late day 3 and I can't help but really like his game. I'd take a flyer on him all day long in the 6th.

We don’t need more guys with shit hands. Pass.

There is only one receiver in the class who can consistently get open and has great hands and his name is Calvin Ridley. We're talking late round flyers here, there has to be some caveat. And his hands aren't shit.

His hands aren’t shit? He has dropped 21 passes in the last 2 seasons. I don’t care if we are talking late round flyers here. You can find late round receivers with better hands. There’s no reason for us to bring in a guy who can’t catch, we’ve had too many problems. And Lasley might have the worst hands in this draft class.

And there are plenty receivers in this class that can get open that have good hands.

now i havent watched any of the tape but i will say this - no "drop" is equal and no arbitrary statistic for drops is good
dez bryant had an epidemic of drops last year but if you go and watch the tape back you'll notice that most of his "drops" were uncatchable balls

im not saying that's the case here but to just state 21 dropped passes in 2 seasons is not necessarily indicative of bad hands at all

You should watch some of Lasley. Not going to lie he’s fun to watch at times. Like @Jacquouille was saying, he has potential. He’s pretty explosive, gets open pretty easily, but dude, I’ve seen him drop 3+ passes in multiple games. I’ve seen him drop bubble screens. I’ve seen him drop numerous passes that hit him in the chest. I can assure you, at least 90% of his drops are legit drops.

Besides his hands, I like him as a receiver. But those hands can not be overlooked. I do not want him on this team.

21 drops against 110 catches. That's not good but that's not horrible. And you can work on that.

You want a receiver that can catch, fine, he'll never be open. You can't have both at this stage of the draft.

What?? 21 drops on 110 catches is definitely very bad. Normal receivers don’t drop anywhere near that much. And yes, you can find guys that get open and can catch all throughout the draft.

20% drop rate no thanks. That has been my biggest pet peeve with this team the past 5+ years. Outside the miracle super bowl run, I swear this team has the case of the drops. I feel like people forget that 5 of Flacco's interceptions in the first 8 games were off of receivers hands.
