The General Offensive Line Thread

I still think my proposal of trade for someone with an expiring contract is the right move. I doubt Watson's paycut was to solely retain Maclin, and HIGHLY DOUBT anyone that's of great importance on the line is going to be released anytime soon.

Then again, the Chiefs did just drop Jeremy Maclin.

If we're discussing trade possibilities and are searching for a solid starter who wouldn't cost an arm and a leg, I feel that one of the more applicable targets would be Zach Strief. He's 33, so mileage is a concern, but he had arguably his best season last year and has quietly been one of the better right tackles over the past several years. The Saints just drafted Ryan Ramczyk in the 1st round, and although Strief received a modest raise of $1 million in May on top of his still-meager base salary of $1.7 million, perhaps they could be enticed to send him away for a mid-to-late draft pick if Ramczyk shows promise. Given that Strief is due $5.1 million next season with a dead cap of just $1.1 million, he also wouldn't be a liability for our books. I admittedly haven't followed their OTAs, so this is just a surface estimate; but he could make for a relatively safe two-year rental, at least if we're looking to acquire an immediate starter.
A line of Stanley-Lewis-Siragusa-Yanda-Streif is something I think could actually work out in the short term. The right side would be totally locked up, and Stanley and Lewis would be good in pass pro. Problem is... Still a massive question mark at center. It's why I'd rather acquire a guard or a center tbh.

Ok, I've been watching some of our games from last season and i needed it to refresh my memory.
There is no way we're going to be a good O with this current line UNLESS we get a dominant center and solid RT. We need a clean pocket. I would shove a 2nd rounder to Jacksonville for brandon linder ( they have a million UFA's next year) .

I feel like regardless who we trade or pickup our oline is gonna go throug

whose actually out there for us to acquire though?

I didnt know Cyrus Kouandjilo was a free agent, the guys at PFF think hes an average swing tackle and his pass pro is good. Average is better than Hurst

And Kyle Boller is better than Johnny Manziel. Still doesn't mean I'd take him though.

This wouldn't be quite as bad as it would have been to draft Robinson, but this would be pretty bad.

Beggars can't be choosers.
Indeed. Too bad there's a legit option out there on the market in Pasztor and Ozzie's Alabama bias will ensure that we get Cyrus..

But it's whatever. As long as we don't roll out Hurst I guess. Even though he's not much better.

It's just infuriating to me that our biggest need going into the offseason is clearly the offensive line and yet we do NOTHING about it. Seriously, Ozzie is seriously gambling on his ego here because we have nothing going for us other than Stanley/Yanda.

Jensen isn't a definitive upgrade over Zuttah. Zuttah had his moments of pure shit last year, but was overall a very AVERAGE offensive lineman. I have 0 faith in Jensen given that his issue is clearly footwork and leverage. Him adding weight isn't going to really help out too much.

Lewis is being played out of position. He honestly wasn't that great at guard last year, especially as a run blocker. He was a good pass blocker, but is honestly better suited to play RT. Harbaugh continues his streak of horribly misusing our talent.

Urschel, although a good backup, continues to show that he gives more of a damn about his academia than football. Ironic considering that as a math major he should know which job pays CONSIDERABLY higher and is of higher importance.

Nico Siragusa is a guy I like going forward, but once again Harbaugh decides to fuck up and play Lewis, who is not a good guard, at the guard spot rather than the natural LG in Siragusa. Will likely be moved to center once we realize that Jensen straight up isn't that good.

Elumenor? LOL. Unproven and all athletic ability.

Hurst? Terrible. Why haven't we gotten rid of him yet? If I was a GM this would be my first order of business. He's seriously bogged down the entire offensive line whenever he's played.

Wesley, Nembot, and Skura are all so unproven and likely have little upside.

So I'll ask. What the fuck is Ozzie doing? He does realize that the precious $120 million QB needs both protection and a running game to thrive right? I know adding Roman should do a lot for the run game, but even then most of our problems were not scheme related.

We picked Brandon Williams over a good RT because of a scheme issue(btw. Roman plays zone A LOT too). Even if Wagner wasn't a true scheme fit we could have compensated, and have gotten Bennie Logan for a lot cheaper, and have maybe been in the running for a quality offensive lineman.

RIP Flacco. Seriously. If he gets hurt, Ozzie needs to be fired ASAP.

We were never in the running for Cyrus, our guys might be far worse but hey at least theyre our guys right! Im sure Flacco wont mind getting sacked 50 times

quite frankly that says a lot about ryan clady and the other options.

There is no hope unless we trade a high round pick for a really good player that a team can't afford to keep from next year onwards.

Or it could just contribute to the Lions' recurring stupidity over the past 50 years(spoilers. It does)
