The Random Thought Thread

A big [profanity deleted] you to the titans for basically creating this entire mess.
I think Simmons caused the entire mess. He came off on NFI list and became active for his first game last week. They ended cutting Urban to make room because he wasn't getting much use.

I think we have another reason to blame Dean Pees!!!

Simmons was very high on my draft board. Injury concerns but talent wise? top 10 for me.

absolutely. Had him as a top 10 to 15 pick myself and chose him in my forum mock in the 2nd round, because of his injury. He's going to be a stud

I apologize if this was already posted but this is incredible stuff. I love Yanda's somewhat maniacal look when Lamar asks him if he wants to go for it. I love Martindale coming to Lamar and telling him, "we got you" and I love Decosta's response on the sideline to the pick 6.

yep it is. Rossi posted it yesterday as well. No problem for the repost.

"The Ravens could have waited until after they faced off with the Patriots to release Bethel and still get the comp pick. They know that. But they didn’t. They value the relationship with Bethel and his representatives."

Also waiting until after our game would force Bethel to have to clear waivers. Prior to week 10 you don't need to clear waivers and cutting him prior to getting the game plan next week is just stringing him along, imo.

here is the article that this came from, from Tony Lombardi

Beat me to this post.

Pretty much no different than a team releasing a player a few weeks before FA opens. They don't "have to" do that. Its a 90 man roster, so they have an almost unlimited supply of roster spots, and as long as you're top 51 is under the cap, you can keep anybody you want.

Ravens cut Eric Weddle a week before FA opened. They didn't have to do that. They could have waited the full week, or even longer. You do this as a sign of "goodwill". If you have a player on your roster who you know you can't or don't want to keep, from a player relations standpoint, it makes sense to move on from them earlier rather than later. You're screwing over the player if you string them along through FA for weeks, allowing the market to dry up and prices to drop, before releasing them.

So yeah, the Ravens could have held onto Bethel for another week. But why? The only reason its a topic is because he signed with a competitor who's on our schedule. That's life. Such are the risks of cutting somebody.

I find this very interesting

Ravens: Team president is Dick Cass. Ivy League graduate. Has been a successful lawyer for 31 years before joining the Ravens full-time. He started working for various NFL owners since the 1980s. He was involved in several NFL changes in ownership starting with Jerry Jones purchase of the Cowboys (including the purchase of the Ravens by Steve Bisciotti). He negotiated CBAs, he negotiated TV rights, he knows every in and out in terms of business of this league. How much do you think this guy could make on the open market per year? But he is not on the open market, the owner chooses to pay this guy a formidable figure (likely in the 10+ million range per year) in order for him to be exclusively Ravens.

So this is why Mosley left for the big apple. All aboard. I think Robert Kraft received a similar treatment this past offseason. We'll see how it pans out for our former Mike.
