The Random Thought Thread

A second SB would likely get him in the HOF I think.

There's 13 coaches all-time with multiple SBs. Ignore Belichick, who's still active.
Of the other 12, 9 of them have been elected to the HOF.

George Seifert, Mike Shanahan, and Tom Coughlin are the only three coaches with multiple SB rings that aren't in the HOF.

Shanahan and Coughlin very well may end up getting in, because as I said earlier, as history suggests, it can take 10-20 years before these guys get in. Shanahan last coached in 2013, and Coughlin in 2015, so they may have a ways to go. I think Coughlin has a great shot to get in, but Shanahan's may be a bit wider. After the back to back SB wins in Denver, he won one playoff game over the next 14 seasons.

George Seifert is an interesting case. His time in SF was almost unmatched by anybody. In 8 years, he won 77% of his games, had 10 playoff wins, two SB championships, and 5 conference championship appearances. In the grand scheme of things, he didn't coach very long (11 seasons) and he also sucked badly in Carolina for three years at the end of his career.

But moral of the story is... a 2nd SB ring would put John very much in the "heavily favored" conversation to make the HOF.
I don't think Seifert will be hurt for the amount of seasons he coached with the record he compiled. I do think it will take him a long time to get in if he does. BTW, Gibbs was in the HOF when he came back in 2004 to coach this Skins for another 4 seasons. He coached 11 seasons (1981-1992). BTW, I'm not comparing Gibbs to Seifert, just the time they coached.

Thanks for the well thought out response. I agree, and I guess if they were to just blitz Queen more and give Bowser some more of those coverage responsibilities, they’d be using them like I have in mind

ive had a bowser video loaded up since before the draft and just not ever got round to editing it and posting it - i think you'd be pleasantly surprised (based on those thoughts you've just posted) by how we used him in 2020 (and tbh in 2019 too)

he's undeniably good in coverage and we use him all over the front 7 but the only real thing he doesnt do is stand off the line of scrimmage in a MLB spot - we even used him as an overhang slot defender and even in man-coverage vs straight-up WRs last year... one of my favourite snaps of his is actually on a completion to juju smith-schuster where he clamps him but slightly loses the ball in the air and juju just makes a great play

Would love to see it! Please post it and/or any other film videos you may have, if you ever get the hankering to do so

Cheers bro. What’s your name on the Tube?

Boy in 2019, we sure did pretty damn good with 14-2 and had the roster then… but I guess when we got to the playoffs most of those same players got abducted by aliens or something along those lines. Lamar must’ve been out that game, I don’t know. I just don’t see how you think we are over performing with Lamar at Qb and having a damn good team until we keep folding like paper when we get to the dance. Guess we need an all Madden / all time team to win a couple playoff games in your mind
Dam am i this hard on our players too? Sheesh lol

Another random question: for Tyus Bowser, why don't we play him more at ILB and switch him around for Queen? Queen is a pretty good pass rusher (I'd say better than Bowser to be honest), but not so good at coverage which Bowser excels at. I'm not saying permanent change and I'm not saying even 50-50 even split. But I don't see why we can't get Queen on the outside and Bowser on the inside at least 10-15% of the time.
I didnt see what everyone else saw out of queen coming out and i still dnt see it. Hope this year on our way to SB he stands out more

I mean he made impact plays. Only started 9 games in college and never had any kind of off-season at all. For a guy that severely inexperienced he did great I’d say

All I know is he is not a top 3 coach unless and until he can start coaching his team to some Ws in the playoffs. That's a fact. And I will leave this conversation now, because obviously there is no getting through the purple kool-aid drinkers when it comes to certain people on this team
You know how players around the league that have played here go telling their free agent buddies that Baltimore is one of the best organizations to play for? A lot of that is harbaugh. We attract free agents by word of mouth around the league, harbaugh has collaborated with biscotti for a very long time now to create a culture, biscotti gives John his vision for the teams attitude and philosophies and what not, John implements it.

the ravens are an unquestioned first class organization not just in the NFL but in the American sports world in general, players rave over the culture here, the team has had ONE losing season in 14 years, multiple HOFers, a SB ring, and a firmly planted identity on the field in that 14 years with John at the helm. Ozzie was past senile managing this team for years and John maintained the culture through the ugly years, and in 2018 he adapted to help build a kind of team that has never been seen before in the nfl.

John harbaugh is goddamn excellent coach who can be a pain in the ass sometimes, but he’s more than earned the benefit of the doubt and he’s clearly a top 3 coach at this point and likely will be for a while

Yeah I mean he would probably be a pretty dang good college coach, you’re right.

last year he had not offseason and most linebackers did bad last season. Lets give him a true offseason and training camp before we count him out. he started to come on towards the end of the season but was being exploited the first half, in coverage.

Maybe we can trade him for Devin Bush. Can’t have this kind of locker room division!

Also, Ray Lewis was one of his mentors and he from Michigan, so that’ll keep the Harbaugh family happy. It’s meant to be!

I'll gladly pass

lol. He was injured last year, so I don’t really know if he’s good or not. I just remember the predraft hype of the 2 Devins coming out. Is Queen better than him? Or they’re about the same

Bush is great lol, I'm just saying, I love Queen and he's ours. Bush is the Steeler's. That would have been like swapping Shazier and Mosley... It would have just been weird and not felt right.

Now, I wouldn't mind having Devin White instead of Malik
