The Random Thought Thread

Every institution that has attempted to educate and prevent drug abuse has failed miserably. DARE was an absolute joke, scare tactics that faded by the time these kids got to high school. Then there’s the whole incarcerating the everloving fuck out of people who have undiagnosed mental illness which fuels an addictive lifestyle, and making sure these people don’t integrate back into society by putting them through parole and giving them records which prevents employment.

Literally everything has failed, and it’s easy to see why, because their plans were fucking stupid to begin with.

War on drugs… fucking please. Yeah let’s militarize those who are paid by our tax dollars to protect and serve, and wage war on an ideology that attacks some of our most vulnerable people.
Well I never felt militarized, and most of those addicts do a ton of f’ed up shit. They truly ”f” over their kids. They are a serious drain on our economy, resources, and victimize hard working people so they can get their fix. I have seen many addicts hurt and even kill innocent citizens. They also keep the truly evil in business. Most all of those 300plus murders in the city are because of f’ing drugs and more than a fair share of good officers were murdered trying to make a difference.

Thanks dude. You're truly doing yourself a solid favor by staying away from all that bad stuff, just keep it up because it just isn't worth it. Yes I'm no longer actively addicted, but I still suffer from regret and depression over it. I put my family through hell and it's something I think about every day like clockwork.

And I'm sorry about your best friend, it's rough. I lived in a sober house for a year and a half after rehab and so many of my former roommates have passed since, it's so fucking sad man.

If your dad is still running and gunning, I'd be willing to talk with him. My old sponsor has hookups for free beds in rehab. I'm always here.

Thanks dude, I try. I figured I lived and fought through it and people helped me, so I might as well be open about things and try to help as many folks as I can. I'm always up for kicking addictions ass lol
He seems to have straightened up his act as of like 6 years ago, I never truly know though if he’s still clean. When my grandmother passed he held down the fort for my grandfather, moved in and takes care of a lot of household work, at his age and in his condition I don’t think he’ll ever go back to rehab or sober homes, if he goes back into full blown relapse at this point I think he’s done for, and would likely just give up. He’s at the end of his rope. 20+ years of that lifestyle has turned him into a shell. It’s sad.

They keep the truly evil in business?

What keeps the truly evil in business( I take it you’re referring to drug dealers) is prohibition. Make something illegal and there will be a black market for it overnight and there is nothing you can do to stop it, so what do we do?… militarize to try to stop it.

You’re a cop so I don’t expect you to bend in the slightest because I’ve yet to meet a cop who has a rational perspective on this, but the war on drugs is not only an objective failure, it is perhaps the biggest failure in American history, up there with Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. You wanna talk about a drain on tax dollars? Go see what it costs the American taxpayer to house an inmate for a day, an inmate who’s spending years behind bars because he pissed dirty, go see who that money goes to, the US has a FOR PROFIT PRISON INDUSTRY, some of the highest recidivism rates in the world. Go see the tax dollars wasted on arrests that officers KNOW will never see a courtroom.

Frankly I don’t wanna hear any of those points made earlier because you could make these same points about unqualified police.

what a horribly unempathetic view you have of people who are struggling - addiction is an illness not the entirety of a person
how can you not feel militarised when all these things have literally been dubbed "the war on drugs"...

also the second best thing you do by legalising drugs is you get to tax them lol...

that's on top of the fact that you can ensure safe products, more healthy consumption and destigmatise drug-use and therefore enable more efficient solutions to those suffering with addiction
