The Random Thought Thread

So, people talk shit about the upcoming WR free agents but honestly the group isn't that bad. Sterling Shepard, Chark, Allen Lazard, Marvin Jones, Jakobi Meyers, Mecole Hardman, and Parris Campbell are all WRs capable of actually contributing to the offense. Sign two of them (maybe 3), plus Bateman, plus Duv, Likely, Andrews, and receiving backs you have a decent pass offense. At least you will with a worthwhile OC.
A guy many would have lumped in here (Christian Kirk) got the bag last year. Have my doubts you’re signing 1 worthwhile WR let alone 2 or 3

Hey its almost like... there may be some correlation between injuries and how much you play guys at a position. Almost like if the room is thin to start.... it may get thinner because of the toll you put on em. But it's not like we haven't seen our thinnest positions idk get decimated multiple years in a row now despite being different positions each time.

Hmmm maybe next year when we're really really thin at corner we can just ignore the position altogether and be the leagues worst pass defense.

For me, it would have to be 2-3 vets! But they will never do that. That would be a mea culpa on them not being able to draft WR's and they will never "admit" to that. Also, waiting until the "Vet Minimum" comes into play would have to be scraped. They'd need to just go out and get the couple guys that think they need. But, honestly, my trust factor on them and WR's is so low that I think no matter who they signed, I'd still be skeptical to the highest degree.

The WR thing for me is sort of akin to in baseball not having bona-fide #1 starters and settling for the better crop of 2, 3, and 4's in FA like the O's did with Buck and DD.

Just remember, it could always get worse. The Ravens could be losing while wearing those uniforms.

…but those 8-10 yard plays you’re yearning for didn’t work all game
Correct, it did not. Nothing worked. Hence the three points. Therefore the only logical choice is to do that which takes the least amount of time off the clock, in order to maximize the number of possessions, and subsequently, opportunities, you have to score.

If the objective is to lose the game 13-6 or 13-10, I agree that running the ball so we can pad our box score stats is a very effective tool.

yet the running game was working all game.

Lets pass the ball for 4 yards instead of run the ball for 8. Makes a lot of sense.
Working all game? Then why did we only score 3 points? Isn't part of an effective run game to score points? Or is it just to say "it worked" while losing?

I think we certainly have very different ways of evaluating what a good offense looks like. That seems clear.

@gtalk12 warning: there’s a Ricard screen pass sighting in this

Hard to read but likely true

Not sure if I fully agree but I get the sentiment at least. This is never going to be a team that doesn't try to win, but I also think they recognized that it was somewhat of a retooling year and they couldn't get everything done. Still doesn't excuse the negligence at WR though.

Those run plays aren't happening in prevent defense, but the defense is totally going to allow Huntley to easily push the ball to the sidelines and are totally gonna allow receivers to waltz out of bounds. Trust me bro.
It worked so well! No one could have seen it coming!
