Week 1 Discussion (It's Happening!)

31 unanswered points by the Chiefs. Chiefs play the Chargers next week who will have a big hole in their secondary without Derwin James, they might be able to do this offensive onslaught again next week.
Idk chargers still have 3 nice cbs

Alright well I'm ready for more football.... only downside to Thursday games, the wait between the next slate of games on Sunday.

Iirc Howard was a panic pick right after the Eagles traded up for Dillard?
While I'm not ready to write off Howard's career as a failure yet, this is a prime, prime, prime, prime, prime example of why fans that push for "you should draft at a position of need" should be careful what they wish for.

He played a position of extreme need for Houston, and nobody blamed them for drafting an Olineman (especially a Tackle). Problem is... he's not good. And when you draft for a position of need, and the player isn't any good, its the ultimate failure. They spent a first round pick on a player who is a liability, and they don't have anybody on their roster better.

Its one thing to whiff on Matt Elam, when you can find somebody like Ihedigbo to step up. Its another when the player you whiff on is still the best option you have.

I challenge fans on this every year in the draft. They say "we don't need X, take a receiver" or whatever position it is. My question is... when that player doesn't pan out, what's your next step? Do the same thing again?

The worst draft strategy known to man is to go into the draft, especially in the first round, and say "I'm taking X position no matter what".

Jets may be without rookie WR Denzel Mims on Sunday who injured his "good" hamstring. Gase said IR is being considered.

to be fair i dont think most fans are cool with taking a position no matter what, 2015 we needed a receiver more than anything, by far, but there wasnt a single poster on these boards who were happy with the perriman picks and despite wr being by far the biggest need, im pretty sure everyone here preferred byron jones or malcom brown, one panned out the other didnt, but we damn sure didnt want perriman.

i wanted us to do whatever we could to get marcus peters - funny how things turn out in the end lol

Yeah I was high on peters but I was worried about his character. If he was available then take him but I didn’t wanna trade for him. When we were on the clock I wanted: malcom brown>Byron Jones>trade.

and yeah, it seems like the ravens have a way with getting their guys eventually. Peters, Campbell, Earl Thomas, Wolfe, and even boldin, pretty sure the ravens always had their eyes on these guys

8 sacks from the skins DL. theyre successfully adopting the 49ers roster building strategy.

ive been saying this offseason that if haskins turns out good, theyre gonna be dangerous.
