The initial figures provided above are almost comically incorrect. We passed the ball 24 times in the first half. Even if you discount the 11 straight passing plays to finish the half, we ran the ball just 11 times in the first half, or just 31.5% of our total plays. We did so for a total of 73 yards on those 11 plays. Our passing game netted 84 yards on its 24 plays in the very same span. That's not mentioning the 9 yards lost on two sacks, bringing the total net down to 75 yards. So the final tally pits 11 for 73 against 24 for 75 If anything, we didn't run the ball enough, not when our two runners combined for 123 yards on 23 carries.
And of the 26 plays that were 2nd or 3rd and long in the entire game, only 6 were running plays. They went for a total of 29 yards. The 20 passing plays went for 70 yards, minus 5 lost on a sack. So on 2nd and 3rd and long plays, our running game netted 6 carries for 29 yards, 4.8 YPC. Our passing game netted 65 yards on 20 attempts, 3.25 yards per attempt. I'm personally all for attempt to view situations from different angles. But the circumstances described above are an absolute folly of misinformation.
