DB Thread

Darius Phillips, at first glance, looks like a guy who's bound to sneak into the first round.

If he's available in the second he's getting a a whole lot of consideration if I'm ozzie. He can jam, reroute, jump routes, superb play recognition, he plays the ball well, with elite physical traits.
 
I probably shouldn't be watching first round CBs tape but I still watched some Josh Jackson out of curiosity and he looks really good. Like the complete package. Athletic, physical, great awareness and ball skills, hip fluidity, patience. If you want another CB to target and create a great duo with Marlon I'd consider him strongly. What a pair that would create.

unlike derwin james this guy played in his bowl game - interested what people think about him (obviously his ints are down this year from 8 to none but what about the particulars of his play generally...)
 
Gave a first look to Nick Nelson and wow, I must say he looks really solid. As we're looking for depth in the later rounds he looks like a guy to watch.
 
So. I just looked at Derwin James again and went back to his freshman year......can we just have him lol. His freshman year screams top 10 pick. He also did very well in coverage this year and would solve our hole in the middle of the defense. Not sure anyone would wanna get smacked by Derwin. He just hits different. Ive never seen anyone hit so violent as a true freshman. Hes got great character too and is a book worm. Hell work hard and study hard too. Shows with the grades he gets in school

He's one of the few defensive players I'd be okay with picking at 16.

Derwin is more of a in the box safety isn’t he? The way we signed and already restructured tony Jefferson contract, I imagine he’s here for the long haul. Do we need 2 in the box safeties?

Derwin can do more, hes got much better range and length and would match up better vs TEs in man coverage. He also wont get trucked by Bell ill say that

He's a swiss army knife of a DB. He can basically do everything, and be good at it. A good DC can move him around and really mess with offenses.

He fits our scheme well too. We like blitzing DBs and that we have the same scheme in place i think hed be a great fit here. Hes also accustom to taking the torch as he did at FSU when Ramsey was leaving. He'll bring more attitude to our defense

Our D is good but its def missing some Alphas. Weddle and Jefferson dont seem like an Alpha personality. Nor does mosley

He would be a perfect fit, but i only watched a live of game of him and havent watched any type yet. I know he has excellent ball skills

This is why i think Derwin James should be our 16th pick if hes there. Kid is going to be a stud in the NFL. We need more Alphas like him on our defense.

If we didn’t just sign Jefferson to a big contract I’d absolutely love James at 16. But he excels in the exact role Jefferson excels in. We need a FS moreso than another SS that isn’t great at playing deep coverage. Man I wish we could’ve had Hooker last year.

James has the range to play deep. He can learn from weddle and could still find plenty of snaps with the jefferson and weddle.
