What Would You Do if You Were Ozzie?

what we gotta do is get josh mcdaniels. brady

I see reality has hit you. This is some on point shyt right here. However, i think austin signed a extesnion early this year right?
Extension or not. Teams can’t stop OC or DC from becoming head coaches. Other positions can be blocked, but not the oc or dc position.

Yea i dont blame you lol but fk it the risk is well worth the reward
Not only that, my pats fan wife has plenty of her own Ravens merchandise.

This comment made no sense, but I thought it was made based on me rooting for the pats over eagles. Anyway, I’ll keep the response regardless.

Your wife a pats fan? Lol must be fun

She likes purple. Definitely better than burgundy and gold.

She will purchase the Ravens girly stuff on her own. That’s the best part. That’s perfect training. Her friends from MA are pissed.

oh wow - the most painful wounds are self-inflicted so i can imagine just how pissed those friends are...

At this point?
1. I'd fire Harbaugh and send Marty and Dean packing.. We can keep everyone else though. Harbaugh will find a job elsewhere but it's just not working here anymore.. Fuck it. Send all three to the college world. My Buffalos could use a real coach and Harbaugh would EXCEL as a coach in college. Likely be a damn good recruiter and a good manager of younger men. Kind of like his brother
2. I'd hire Teryl Austin. I know that this will make a lot of you flip shit, but it makes the most amount of sense. Very good defensive mind, familiar with the organization, knows how to utilize elite talent. We have a lot of really promising young talent on the defense. Brining in Austin to be the HC is an honest no-brainer.
3. Hire Gary Kubiak. This would make our coaching staff among the best in the game. Kubiak loved it here, knows Flacco, he's fixed him before. He can do it again. Yes.. I'd keep Roman too. From my understanding Roman's scheme does include zone concepts in as well. Adding in Kubiak's stretch zone with the power scheme could give Kubiak a competitive edge he hadn't have had previously. and @purplepittabread88 the good thing about Stanley, Yanda, Jensen, and Howard is that they all have had positive experiences in zone blocking offenses. They'd continue to excel is my point, and keeping both would allow the olines higher level of play to be kept in tact.
4. Offseason wise. Resign Ryan Jensen. Should not be too expense.
5. Extend Jimmy. He's taken paycuts the last two seasons, and even with his excellent play, he is making way too much money.
6. Extend CJ Mosley. Backloaded stuff. You know the drill. Open up some cap room.
7. Sign Allen Robinson. I still see Maclin as more of a #1.. Especially in a Kubiak Offense. But Robinson would also fit in like a glove. We could use a guy like that.
8. DRAFT OFFENSE. "But Flacco sucks. why aren't we gonna find a QB". Because we can't. This QB class upon reevaluation suddenly takes a massive hit when Darnold withdraws from the equation. Rosen is the only one here with starting potential in year one. And we are contractually stuck to Flacco for one more season. Give him a good supporting cast and the chance to turn it around. 2019 does not look like a terrible year for QBs either. If Flacco does not redeem himself in 2018(a real possibility), that's when you get a QB.

This offseason needs to be dedicated to getting a better supporting cast in play and establishing an offensive identity. It's very doable. Sure, I added a defensive minded coach, but I think that's where the team is headed direction wise. A good idea given that the league has become more offensively oriented. Having a good defense has become even more important than before. Hiring Kubiak serves a double purpose. Even if he decides to bail again, he would likely rub off on Roman in a positive light and he'd be the most likely person to help Flacco have a career revival of sorts.

Sure, we are all pissed with Joe. Myself included, and those who are not holding him accountable at all need an honest to god reality check. But our supporting cast clearly needs an upgrade. Even if Flacco cannot redeem himself in 2018, I don't want a rookie coming here with what we have. For the sake of Flacco, and the future Qb, we need to establish ourselves with a good supporting cast.

Our offseason priorities player wise need to be.

1. Oline. They're playing well now, but 2/3 of the guys are 30+ and one of them is a key free agent. We need to find Yanda's replacement, keep Hurst and Jensen, possibly draft a developmental RT.. And for the love of god, get us a real LG. Hurst has been playing well as of now, but I highly doubt he keeps it up. He's still had his moments of pure shit this season. And LEWIS WAS NEVER GOOD AT GUARD. Solid pass blocker, shit run blocker. Both the eye test and PFF back this claim up. I'm convinced Harbaugh keeping him at LG has ruined the guy. Was a more promising RT imho. Keep the core intact(Yanda, Stanley, Jensen), and find ourselves a real LG and we are talking about a potentially elite oline.

2. Wide reciever- Obvious. Maclin is a #1. But Wallace is a one trick pony, and I'm convinced Perriman is never gonna develop into that #1 WR. We need more here. Another #1 WR to potentially grow with a new QB is a must. Drafting a wide reciever in the first round should not only be a possibility, but potential priority.

3. Tight End. I like Maxx. He makes plays when he's healthy.. He's never healthy. Crockett was a solid playmaker when he was healthy.. He's never healthy. Boyle is a good player when he's not suspended. He's a massive risk for a suspension. Point is.. "Ozzie sucks at drafting TEs" is an invalid claim. Not his fault that these guys are injury prone/morons. This is a good TE class. Let's bring in one of these guys(hell, I'd be okay with bringing in two of them).

4. Backup QB. Mallet isn't a good backup either. Getting a Luke Falk in the bottom end of round three or the top of round four could be a good football move for us. A guy who could potentially develop into a starter.

I don't want to get into the coaching staff because that's just something that's tough to predict atm but I would like to add onto the FA moves and cap restructure.

I agree with the extension route that you pointed out in regards to Jimmy. I really think it's going to be tough to convince Jimmy to re-do his deal this year because he has the ultimate leverage at the moment. He's shown that when he's not there for our defense in the past, that we clearly don't have a unit that can play NFL caliber defense. It's a win-win for Jimmy and the Ravens but the choice is really his and some players just prefer to have their money up front, I think a better scenario would be an extension rather then a re-do. He's a FA in 2019, Harbaugh and the team feel confident he can play at a high level into his 30s. I think he's a candidate for an extension and he absolutely deserves it.

I think we go hard after offense this year, but I think the ultimate priority is getting some play-makers here. I think Allen Robinson would definitely be a guy we would like to have here, he's coming off a torn ACL in addition to a down season in 2016, I personally believe that we can have here, just depends on the interest he generates. If Jacksonville makes the post-season without him, I think it's very possible that they opt not to pay him the money. I think getting a LG and RT will be something we take a hard look at, but ultimately I think we will be very aggressive at building depth at the WR position.

It got me thinking, I wouldn't mind keeping Mike Wallace if it's at a low-cost deal, the guy really likes it here and he's turning 32 before the season starts, who is really going to give him a big pay day? I think those days of Mike Wallace getting a big contract are behind him. He might have some interest in the FA market but ultimately I don't think it's going to be as great as some would like to believe, I think we can keep him here if the price is right.

I just think this year, we're going to follow the trend of the league and just stack on receivers. I think it's possible we sign a WR in FA and draft one very early within the first two rounds, in addition to keeping Maclin and Wallace.

I believe the jimmy extension is a gimme. I also agree that go hard after a wr in free agency and in the draft. Wouldn’t be surprised if they kept Wallace if it were a reasonable deal. I doubt we keep Carr with Young coming back and Canady back and healthy, along with Jaylen Hill. I think it’s a position we have suddenly gotten pretty deep at. I wouldn’t be against keeping him, but we need to make some space to sign some offensive playmakers. Howard is also we need to think Long and hard about. Are we going to keep him or move Lewis out to right tackle. Howard at next years current cap number has been a solid signing. We may end up keeping him.

tbf to lost... and that's not something im ever inclined to be lol ;)... he did actually talk about extending jimmy rather than restructuring - which is the only thing that makes sense - he gets more money in the way of a new signing bonus on a new contract and we even out his cap hit through the rest of his career

i think for jax its important to remember that they probably arent going to be paying blake bortles like a franchise qb (or they shouldnt be) so financially they wont necessarily have an issue keeping hold of allen robinson who even if they do make it to the playoffs without him is still their best receiver - id personally prefer the ravens to build up a decent group of 2nd/3rd/4th receivers with guys with different traits and start from scratch - maybe a guy like taylor gabriel and hopefully pick up a good receiver in the draft to add to maclin and perriman (who will likely be back even if he drops down to 4th/5th on the depth chart) and given that we are stuck with both maclin and perriman id rather let mike wallace go

i agree however that we need to stack up some receiver depth - i dont even mean the top end guys but usable 3rd and 4th options with different traits would help this offence so much to diversify and pose different problems for opposing defences - my expectation this offseason is that we would sign a couple of low octane but solid 3rd/4th wrs in FA and then like you said pick up a wr with a high draft pick and add those 3 guys to maclin and perriman who are already here and then let them all compete - and ideally you then have moore, campanaro, matthews, white, adeboyejo and whoever else fighting for us to keep a 6th wr

6million is obviously a lot for a backup but id be tempted to keep carr tbh - corner depth has been our kryptonite for years now and getting rid of carr would diminish that after having only had a taste of it for a year - if anything this year has shown us just how important strong depth at corner is - we had numerous injuries and were still able to field a strong group of corners (may well still be the strongest unit on the team even with the injuries)

i have no idea what they do about howard - depends on when they need to decide on his options i guess - if they have to make the decision by free agency (would make sense) then i suspect he stays but if we can somehow keep him until the draft we may end up with a first round tackle who would make howard redundant...

Yeah, it is quite possible they draft McGlinchey and I agree, that would make Howard expendable. I actual think one of carr, Howard or Wallace will be on the team next year.

I agree, I’d be happy with a bunch of 2s ams 3s as receivers added to Maclin and Perriman. That is very doable and maybe the new OC will be able to use Perriman better. I haven’t given up on him entirely. But my enthusiasm for him as definitely leveled off.

this is why ozzie's paid the big bucks because i think howard's contract would be guaranteed before free agency and the draft... how do you make that decision without knowing who you are gong to pick up - i really do think the draft should be moved ahead of free agency so that you dont end up with so many veterans in stupid positions where good players suddenly find themselves buried at a position like AP in NO

Certainly would make it easier now, wouldn’t it. However I don’t see that ever happening. There is too much work that goes into the draft process after the season. It all can’t get accomplished with the combine, interviews, behind the scenes research, pro days. Free agency would have to be moved back and that won’t happen.

Now I wouldn’t be surprised to see them try and restructure his contract or try and have him take a reduced amount, which again, won’t shooed because he’s had a good year. Is there a team that would be willing to trade for him. Again, this probably wouldn’t happen either.

its an interesting dilemma and one of the times where i dont envy ozzie at all

No, but I certainly trust Ozzie. I’m sure I’ll get disliked for this, but he’s done tremendous over his time and yes he makes mistakes and has had some bad picks, just like all GMs, but If you take everythin* that he and rhe front office has done, even recently, he’s done a tremendous job. I believe the last couple of years we have been a rebuilding. I don’t necessarily agree with @Lost_In_Translation, that last year was for defense and this coming year is for offense, but I feel that is how everything fell into place. I do believe that Ozzie will make a concerted effort to right the ship and to do that we need some offensive playmakers.
