Offensive Coordinator Thread

The way we are going it’s very possible that Morningweg will be the OC next year. I actually credit Greg Roman more than Weg. I certainly hope don’t lose Roman to another team looking for an OC AND have the wherewithal to fire Weg if another team is interested in Roman.
I feel the same. Roman is the biggest reason our offense has improved, and we will take a bit step back without him. He hasn't been a great OC in the past and there is a reason we were able to bring him in. But his current role fits him so well. I can live with bringing Weg back, as long as it's the combination of him and Roman.

As an OC he was able to add in spread concepts to finally allow Alex Smith success in this league, as well as change the offense completely for Colin Kaepernick. He’s an OC that designs the offense around the players around him, not the other way around and that is refreshing. He’s always had success in the run game at all of his stops and a big reason why he fits here in Baltimore.

They could make him Assistant Head Coach, Offense.

josh mcdaniels if he is willing to take another OC job instead of HC
I’ve heard the Giants are interested in Pats Director of Player Personnel Nick Cesario and wirh him they would have inroads to McDaniels.

Of course I’ve also heard they are interviewing Gettleman.

Rebuilding phase?
Have you been watching the offense this season? Hell, our offense has been in a chronic rebuilding phase for nearly the entirety of our franchise.

But pair our tawdry performance this year with our aging players -- Flacco, Yanda, Maclin, Wallace, Ben Watson, and Austin Howard -- and it's clear we're heading for more rebuilding. It's damn near obvious. I mean, it's one thing to be bad, and it's one thing to have a lot of aging players, but it's a pretty bad deal when both of those things are happening at the same time.

I hate to sound overly optimistic but the offense has been the 3rd scoring offense the second half of the season. I'm not saying it is a powerhouse by any means, but the system is starting to click whether it was on the players or the coach is not my position to say. There are a lot of what ifs but if this offense is having this sort of success with the lack of talent on the offensive side of the ball it makes me wonder if the system is actually really working, and if it is why would they change that.

Obviously they need youth at wide out and tight end, but the offensive line is relatively young outside of Yanda and I guess Howard but you usually have a couple of those older guys in there. Adding some juice via the draft for depth would be great. But Flacco is only 32 and could likely play another 3-4 years if not more.

If the team were to draft a wide receiver high, sign another veteran wide out, and find a younger tight end replacement which could be on the roster currently the offense may be in okay shape. Collins is only 23 and Dixon comes back with Buck Allen backing the two up. This is the most consistent I have seen the offense since Ray Rice was here and that is because of Collins opening so much up for the offense even with the lack of wide receivers. If the team got Jarvis Landry, drafted a guy like Sutton, and then retained Mike Wallace for another year, I really think the offense could be in okay shape if they continue this success down the road.

Idk, we've also played a series of really weak defensive teams. You might be right but I'm not super optimistic. Too may guys are old or in contract years for me to be confident

I like to keep grounded because every year the Ravens offense shows a glimpse of being something special the next season it is all gone lol. But I think Collins, Stanley, Moore, Jensen, and a few others give the Ravens a few core players. I think the system is finally working itself in and Marty and Roman have been able to combine their schemes together.

Couple of things:
- I think we were always set up to rebuild the offence next year whatever happened - this recent drafts strength was defence and the next one appears to be more offensive and while the offence has started to improve I fully expect us to retool the receiving corps and maybe add a lineman and maybe a backup qb

- offensive line actually has a lot of returning talent and I’m not sure all of the aged players you mentioned are that big a problem given that only 2/3 of them (including flacco) are expected to be a significant part of this offence moving forwards

- as for the other side of things - it’s the ravens as a whole that have scored the 3rd most points in the nfl (I think highest in the afc) not the offence - the offence has improved but it’s not a good offence - it’s just taking its opportunities and playing complementary football (which is all most of us have been asking for)

- but the offence does now look set up well for the future as long as flacco continues the improvement back towards the top half of the league in qb play - he’s back to making throws that no one else in the league can make which is nice to see and his footwork and mechanics look so much better than even in week 8 - he’s also reading the field which should be obvious but he wasn’t doing it earlier in the year - so as long as flacco continues to play this level or better then we have some future pieces to work around him: Collins, woodhead, buck, Dixon all offer something nice at rb, moore’s a nice complementary piece and Wallace (if we keep him) is gonna stay playing like mike Wallace

I know it isn't a powerhouse but the offense have done their part these last few weeks. They are the ones putting up a majority of the points and yes it is because the special teams have given them good field position and the defense has done a pretty good job keeping opposing offenses from marching down the field outside of Pittsburgh. But I don't knock them for not putting up 600 yards a game because they haven't needed to do so. In Pittsburgh it was all the offense and a majority of the points recently are because the offense is now scoring touchdowns instead of settling for only field goals. Their run offense looks unstoppable a majority of the time and the only defense in the playoffs (if they get there) I can see is Jacksonville. All the other projected AFC teams are terrible in defending against the run.

Back to making throws no one else in lg can make? flacco has never in his life but that good to the point where only he can make certain throws.
