More or less. Although it wasn't quite as some outlets described. The BaltimoreRavens site cited his performance as a stonewalling, and the game was often used by outlets driving his (manufactured) pre-draft ranking. While Clowney didn't notch a sack in the stat sheet, there were roughly a handful of plays where Clowney took advantage of Hurst's tendency to lean his upper body from the onset of engagement by repeatedly losing him with the swim move immediately after the snap. A few of the plays were embarrassingly poor, i.e. being knocked flat on his bottom by a different player within the first few seconds of one play. To his defense, Hurst had an alright game in my eyes. Just didn't feel that it was nearly as dominant as I've seen pictured. But I'm personally worried about both tackle spots going into Monday given that both Howard and Hurst struggled mightily in pass protection against Green Bay. To their defense, they did face two good pass rushers, and at least whomever isn't facing Clowney on whichever play should have an easier time than the counterpart bookend.i mean he did do well that one game where they faced each other in college

Definitely could not agree more. The one equalizer is the fact that they own one of the worst offensive lines in the entire league. For reference sake, we've allowed 10 QB hits and 74 hurries. They've allowed 20 and 125, which is unsightly. Unfortunately for them, their situation isn't overly surprising given the lack of talent. They have possibly the worst starting OT duo in Chris Clark and Breno Giacomini. I hope we're able to capitalize.oh man we really need ronnie back - ffs we cant let the texans win this and slip below .500 again
I'm reviewing the game against GB. I've been bashing Marty a lot recently, but I probably haven't done it enough. It's unbelievable how predictable and unagressive (that a word?) our offense is. Two very simple examples that I stumbled upon randomly because I chose to watch the 4th quarter:
4th, 8:34, 3rd and 8: down and distance implicates a pretty agressive playcalling and that we count on our WR's speed and ability to get open (Wallace on a slant or deep route, Maclin on any route), or worst case Woodhead as a checkdown weapon. Here's the personnel:
*Buck as the RB, asked to pass protect
*Maxx and Boyle at TE, with Maxx lined up as a FB
*Maclin and Wallace as the WR. Two WR on 3rd and 8 looks suspect, but it's downright funny when only Wallace runs a deep route.
In fact, of all the skill players mentionned above, only Wallace crossed the first down marker. The other 3 running a route ran short routes that were well before the first down marker. In the end, Flacco threw it wuickly to Maclin for a 5 yard gain. End of the drive. Judging by Flacco's play, it looks like he didn't even care about other receivers and directly went to Mac right after turning around. To me it looks like the play was designed just to get a completion and a punt.
4th, 6:43, 1st and 10: This was right after CJ's fumble recovery. 1st and 10 at GB's 30, let's be agressive right? Worst case we have a FG, so let's take some risk. Right? Nope nope nope. Here's the personnel:
*Alex Collins at RB
*Project Pat at FB
*Maxx and Boyle at TE
*Chris Moore (!) at WR
Now try to guess what the play is going to be. You'll never know... Oh, sorry, you do. It's an Alex Collins run... It gained 2 yard thanks to Collins' bounce back and then a 1st down thanks to a push out of bounds.
There you go. Two plays, out of the 5 I just saw from the offense, and you just see how poor the offensive play calling is.

Again why I am still a Flacco supporter. It's not him playing poorly, it is the calls of the offense. Cannon armed quarterback throwing 3-4 yard curl routes to running backs and tight ends.me too - i just feel like this game is going to be a battle when it really shouldnt be - we need some momentum and we cant get it if we lose to the texans on monday night without their starting qb - like how can we really talk ourselves into being a legitimate playoff team if we lose with the lights on to tom savage?
Absolutely. Overall, we've had one of the most fortunate situations I've seen schedule wise from the standpoint of facing teams whose starters were shelved. If we can get a dominant win where the offense appears to be capable, that will at least keep the hope alive for us to be a legitimate postseason contender.me too - i just feel like this game is going to be a battle when it really shouldnt be - we need some momentum and we cant get it if we lose to the texans on monday night without their starting qb - like how can we really talk ourselves into being a legitimate playoff team if we lose with the lights on to tom savage?
There's no doubt he's playing poorly though. Case in point, the interception to Woodhead. That was a terrible decision.Again why I am still a Flacco supporter. I'm not saying he is perfect but how many Flacco interceptions like that do we usually see in a year? At least 5 or 6. He isn't the problem and I think he will be here longer than most think. People planning his departure in 2020 from cutting him I think will be disappointed when he stays. He isn't the solution right now but he also isn't getting help so he isn't really much of the problem. To fix this offense it starts with the scheme. Next it is creating opportunities for Wallace, Perriman, and Maclin in the intermediate-deep parts of the field to open up the run game. There's no doubt he's playing poorly though. Well, first 2 out of those 3 will definitely be through him, since he's too expensive to cut.I'm not saying he is perfect but how many Flacco interceptions like that do we usually see in a year? Flacco will never be MVP of this league. But he isn't the issue. He is a solid quarterback and plays like a top 10 quarterback in this league with weapons. I swear there are so many Peyton Manning supporters on these boards that forget Manning fell into every perfect situation possible when it came to o-line and receiving talent. Flacco has looked great he won't be a hall of famer. But if this team can get back to the superbowl in the next 3 years it is through him.
Agree, I just don’t understand how Marty doesn’t see how predictable we are as an offense.we are legitimately as predictable on offence due to personnel groupings as the giants were last year
if maxx and boyle and collins are in then it's 100% a run, if chris moore is in it's almost certainly not a pass play unless we've had an injury, ricard is only in the game in running situations except for 1 full back sneak to the flats that was a horrendous playcall
the safety knows when they can lean down towards the box and the linebackers know they dont have to worry about the pass and can cleanly come in and fill the gaps - we may not play against stacked boxes per se but every defender pre snap knows that they can charge in towards that box as soon as the ball is snapped
Agree, I just don’t understand how Marty doesn’t see how predictable we are as an offense.
What's much worse is that our HC sees something in Marty's vision for our offense.Agree, I just don’t understand how Marty doesn’t see how predictable we are as an offense.
Yeah, to think that Flacco would play better with better weapons is a tad naive to me. He's not showing anything close to remotely consistent mechanics and his ball placement is spotty at best.Well, first 2 out of those 3 will definitely be through him, since he's too expensive to cut.
Flacco is a problem. He isn't playing good football.
Alex Collins is like second in the league for YPC
