2022 General Draft Thoughts

Would you rather take Stingley over Sauce?

yeah i think so - they've both got really big grades from me

with stingley there's some concerns around some nagging injuries over the last 2 years which is obviously frustrating - but i think if his career was run in reverse and he had his 2019 season this year that he'd be frequently in the conversation for best player in the entire draft class

i get the concerns with stingley with some spotty effort, those injuries and maybe some tackle technique (which with the ravens tackling issues this year would be a bit of a worry)...

but i look at stingley and he's just too good to pass up as an athlete and a talent

now obviously sauce aint half bad either and has some amazing length and movement skills at his size (and that's why both of them have got such big grades from me) but i just think the outrageous athletic ability and movement skills from stingley put him over the top

would be happy with either though lol - and if either of them make it to 14, i doubt there'll be a player at another position higher on my board

i do think that in a division with jamarr chase... stingley's the better answer if we want to continue to man up vs those bengals receivers

I want JJ so bad... slap a #95 jersey on him just for the hell of it.

i think him attending is the only way he has a chance of falling - because at his height and length it's likely that he'll have less exciting testing numbers vs some of the other top corners like stingley, mcduffie, booth etc.

on the plus side - if the combine does get scrapped, maybe teams keep letting stingley slide down the board with his somewhat injured 2021 and 2020 seasons... because if the combine does happen, stingley blows everyone away with his athleticism and he probably gets put back in the conversation at the top again
I don't ever like to predict a players combine performance. Guys 40 speed will always differ from their game speed, they're also getting coached up, on how to preform certain drills and practicing it constantly. I can imagine other guys preforming well but Garner having a great combine would do better for him then anyone else IMO.

Either way, we'll have some good options at CB and maybe Edge(Depending on who's left) at 14. I'm honestly becoming more opposed to drafting an OL at 14 because outside of Evan Neal I think there's a good gap between the best CB/Edge who will be on the board vs best OL.

As far as Stingley Jr goes, I would be surprised if he lasts to 14. His film/athleticism is too good to ignore, especially given the level of competition in which is he plays in. I don't rule out players this early, I rarely do it but if he's at 14 then there's no one who I would take over him unless it's Neal, the guys who are guaranteed to go top 5. In fact, only Kyle Hamilton and George Karlaftis are guys I would probably go with over him and I'm not certain even at this point either of those two last till 14. That said Gardner is a fantastic consolation.

Bruh he looks strong af
His play strength is pretty ridiculous. His ability to just hold off blockers with length and anchor is absurd, and then he sheds so violently, he makes it look easy, and his speed to power rush is crazy af too, he gives me Khalil Mack vibes for real

i definitely agree with that take about him as a run defender...
im not sure i can think of a better college technician in the running game at EDGE going back through all my draft boards back to 2017...

and with his pass rushing, the senior bowl was a massive eye-opener that sent me back to the tape because i missed all of that the first time around

That’s how I was with him, I didn’t love his tape and then I saw him just dominate the senior bowl and had to go back and look again, when you don’t have the endzone/sky cam view he just doesn’t jump off the film the same way, you can’t really gauge just how destructive he is to the whole structure of the offense with the sideline view.

he’s become probably my favorite prospect for us but I think he’s a top ten lock.

i think also it didnt help that he was the first prospect i watched this year and when i saw that he wasnt particularly bendy i dinged him way too much for it and pigeon-holed him as a solely run-stuffing edge and that was wrong

omg that mock is wild lol

i'm super high on travon walker but never thought id see anyone actually mock him top 10 let alone top 5 (and ahead of thibodeaux too)

feels like his penning and cross picks are the wrong way around though lol... wow penning at 6 is crazy and definitely not going to happen lol - generally seems to be way too low on cross... kenyon green going 11th feels rich too unless im missing something

Boye Mafe sneaking into the back of R1 feels like something that could happen

but Tyler Smith in R1 feels insane to me (i've not watched the film yet but everything i've seen of him so far seems to suggest he literally doesn't know how to use his hands yet lol)

i absolutely love mocks like this that do crazy stuff (but come from someone reputable like DJ)

getting stingley at 14 would be amazing - id also be worried somewhat nervous about the run on OTs and EDGEs in that 1st round that would make day 2 somewhat squeaky in terms of finding talents at those 2 positions but if stingley falls to 14 you dont care lol

literally the 2 things we were just talking about in this thread lol

Stingley to the ravens
Jermaine Johnson going top 10

Shit is crazy how much the combine can help you and or hurt you..

it's not that it will change much for actual nfl teams (because they already likely have an idea of what these guys will run from their college coaches and because they've got access to the tracking data)

but it will wake up a ton of media scouts to just how athletic some of these guys are - saw some people a few weeks ago talking about how some freaky numbers for some but maybe some underwhelming ones for travon walker when i think it's more likely that travon's gonna be one of the freaks who blows up the combine (as well as mafe and maybe ojabo too)

As alluded to above, guys don't typically rise and fall to that extreme. Teams already know about these guys. There's a lot of groupthink amongst the media and ultimately, the fans. The media doesn't watch nearly as much tape as they portray. That's why when a guy like DJ who does watch the tape comes out and says these things, you listen.
