Hall of Famer
Nah, it's just that he'll never get to #14, regardless of injury. You sure this has nothing to do with him being an LSU player?
And, for the record, I always liked LSU DBs.

As alluded to above, guys don't typically rise and fall to that extreme. Teams already know about these guys. There's a lot of groupthink amongst the media and ultimately, the fans. The media doesn't watch nearly as much tape as they portray. That's why when a guy like DJ who does watch the tape comes out and says these things, you listen.
maybe not so much with a mock draft per se but certainly when he updates his top 50
in the same way that mike mayock's positional rankings were always very interesting
also notable that both are better connected to actual nfl personnel staffs than others
same with lance zierlein to a lesser extent - he's a little more influenced in his grades by his own personal biases but he also acknowledges those biases when he talks about how he grades guys (notably was one of the first guys in this process in the media who went... "wtf is up with these big demarvin leal grades?"
also for OL (and occasionally some DL) i really like brandon thorn who does the grades for OL for bleacher report's draft board
There's always some player that goes way higher then anyone anticipates. It happens every year and I can see Penning going that high, especially after his senior bowl. It's unlikely for now but when draft day arrives some guys will rise. The first round of this draft is pretty good and the top 15 is stacked with some good talent, I don't see a lot of potential blue chips after the obvious top 5 outside of Kyle Hamilton.omg that mock is wild lol
i'm super high on travon walker but never thought id see anyone actually mock him top 10 let alone top 5 (and ahead of thibodeaux too)
feels like his penning and cross picks are the wrong way around though lol... wow penning at 6 is crazy and definitely not going to happen lol - generally seems to be way too low on cross... kenyon green going 11th feels rich too unless im missing something
Boye Mafe sneaking into the back of R1 feels like something that could happen
but Tyler Smith in R1 feels insane to me (i've not watched the film yet but everything i've seen of him so far seems to suggest he literally doesn't know how to use his hands yet lol)
i absolutely love mocks like this that do crazy stuff (but come from someone reputable like DJ)
getting stingley at 14 would be amazing - id also be worried somewhat nervous about the run on OTs and EDGEs in that 1st round that would make day 2 somewhat squeaky in terms of finding talents at those 2 positions but if stingley falls to 14 you dont care lol
I actually like Daniel Jeremiah's inputs when it comes to the draft, I think him and Matt Miller do a pretty solid job. I love Derek Stingley Jr., that said, my only issue is passing on David Ojabo for him, I just don't know if we do that given how badly we need an edge and having two explosive rushers in him and Oweh could be something serious. Ojabo is hella talented and his familiarity with McDonald will make his transition easier. That's a very tough call for the Ravens, personally I think I agree with DJ and just go with Stingley Jr. because of how talented he is and the fact that we're going to face Jamarr Chase and other talented WRs every year.
This is the great thing about this draft, the top of it has a lot of talent and IMO some late risers that will shock people. 14 is a really good place to pick, some guy will fall to 14 who has no business being there. Maybe Kyle Hamilton, that would be unbelievable.
I think DJ and Mayock are 2 guys who are always really good at managing their thoughts (positional rankings) vs. what they're hearing might actually happen (mocks). Obviously mocks will get a little bit more accurate the closer we get but DJ isn't just throwing some of these guys where they are for no reason right now. He might not necessarily believe in the value but he's not going to let that stop him from throwing out an educated guess on what he thinks might happen.
Obviously this extends beyond just Mayock and DJ, for what it's worth.
I would take Stingley Jr too but it would be very tough to pass on Ojabo, he's a bit raw but talented as hell and still a day one contributor in a place that we've been pretty underwhelming at for a bit. Him and Oweh could create a very fearsome edge duo. That said, Peters is a FA after next season and we don't know how he will look, Averette is mostly likely gone, same with Tavon Young...CB could easily be a need next year. That's something to consider, I would imagine McDonald would vouch for Ojabo and the fit is there, but he's smart enough to see how talented Stingley Jr. is too.matt miller is very hit and miss (mostly miss for me tbh)
DJ's the gold-standard in the current nfl draft media landscape
im passing on ojabo for stingley 100% of the time btw - dont fuck around with needs in round 1, just take the best player and if they happen to fill a need then that's just a bonus
with the way the board fell on DJ's mock, there's no way im taking not taking stingley but if i have to take someone else then sure there's probably 2 guys i like in that spot: david ojabo and charles cross... i'd definitely be thinking hard about andrew booth and devin lloyd though too
think based on that mock the way i'd stack it at 14 would be:
Stingley
Cross
Ojabo
Booth
Lloyd
Linderbaum
i get that - i will say that tyler smith in round 1 from what ive read so far feels crazy... might have to queue him up and do a proper eval tonight to see if i can see what's going on there
i know he's one of the youngest prospects in the class
then again it's possible he's doing what mel kiper's famous for doing which is throwing some guys in the end of round 1 in some of his early mocks who he doesnt think are being talked about enough

The draft shaping up like this would be unbelievable for us. I mean Derek Stingley Jr. and David Ojobo both being there would be very interesting.
Smith feels like Penning-lite to me. Lots of those physical and athletic abilities and a smash the guy's face in front of you, but a lot that needs to come together to reach that potential. I agree that it feels too high but I do like him and think teams could fall in love with the intangibles.

I got Ojabo over cross and Linderbaum over Lloyd though I would be disappointed if we came away from the first round with Linderbaum, even if we don't resign Bozeman because someone really good at a premium position like CB/Edge was there and we passed on him.

this draft would be wild as shit
I feel you on NPF but idk he was projected as a first rounder a year ago and he’s got some things to like, feels like a roll the dice kinda thingive noticed a lot of john ridgeway and otito ogbonnia picks lol - popular day 3 values on TDN right now methinks
i really am not a fan of NPF at all - i cant touch him before day 3 personally (technique's a mess - especially in the passing game - and he seemingly hasnt got the functional strength to live vs power)

and I’ve always liked ridgeway, and just recently discovered ogbonnia, think ridgeway is minimum gonna be a solid player in the nfl and has a much higher ceiling than just solid. Ogbonnia is probably a redshirt but man he’s got enormous potential
the big ones in that are Johnson, Winfrey, and Emerson. That’s a seriously strong looking defensive draft class to open up with, would be a game changer

We don't want a little bro as an O lineman.ive noticed a lot of john ridgeway and otito ogbonnia picks lol - popular day 3 values on TDN right now methinks
