2022 General Draft Thoughts

No Ronnie or Marlon had we taken Jalen. Be interesting how this team looks without those two

my guess is that if we took ramsey, the marlon pick would have been either jonathan allen or tj watt if we picked in the same range and we didnt still want marlon (which it's certainly possible we might have taken him anyway)

we'd also have a major OT problem to fix lol

Does anyone have any knowledge on how much of our shit defensive play had to do with getting caught in certain personnel against hurry up? I have no clue, but Jordan Davis is a guy who could single handedly solve that problem assuming he improves conditioning

My draft crush this year. Well it’s a tie between him and TL, and it’s cool to think that they both might be available when we’re on the clock

i just dont think Linderbaum's going to be a raven - he just has way more value on other teams
and while the movement skills and lots of other things about him are exceptional i think the fact that he's around 290lbs and can be got by longer bigger DL really does impact how the ravens might see him given the number of massive DTs and NTs we're used to seeing - and in the running game he doesn't create a ton of movement when drive blocking... he's the heir apparent to the "Grim Reacher" (aka Garrett Bradbury) and will be exceptional in a team that's base offence runs wide zone

but im afraid that's not going to be the ravens - in a vacuum he's probably worth the 14th pick or higher - to the ravens he's probably not worth taking until the late 1st or maybe even the 2nd

it's tough to run hurry up when you get put behind the chains - which obviously is more likely to happen with jordan davis on the field - it also helps if teams cant just consistently get 5 yards on the perimeter

so when the ravens defence is clicking it's tough to get in the hurry up against them a ton

but with the CB group getting decimated and the blitz not being particularly effective, some teams down the stretch bullied us with the hurry up at times (see aaron rodgers and the packers) - and they did catch us with guys on the field we didnt necessarily want there - we do make sure we have a pretty versatile and multiple roster on defence to deal with some of those things but the defensive staff have historically loved to sub and rotate here (and even more so with Wink) - it's somewhat about the DL but more where it seemed to get us was with the LB rotation and perhaps at DB

not sure though that Davis is really the fix to that problem - the worst he looked all season was when Bama ran the hurry up against Georgia in the SEC conference title game and he looked gassed and useless at times

i dont think davis solves that problem (that's not me saying we shouldn't draft him - just that he's not the fix vs hurry up)

guys more likely to be resolute vs hurry up where teams try to catch us in the wrong personnel would be guys like Madubuike, Calais if he stays, Chuck (who is comfortable moving down into the box if we get caught in dime)

that's where someone like Travon Walker or Devonte Wyatt or DeMarvin Leal or Logan Hall or Devin Lloyd or Dax Hill provide extra value

Well my rationale is that we don’t need run support with Jordan Davis, we don’t have to sub as much against balanced offenses and we can field more nickel and dime without fear of getting run on

i mean nickel is our base package anyway tbf - i think we average less than 2 DL per snap already - i doubt jordan davis would change anything like that schematically or philosophically - he would be someone who you'd expect to elevate the scheme as it exists right now and take over the nose tackle and be dominant inside vs double teams etc. and re-set the LoS

and you probably still sub him off when you can, because while he's not completely 1-dimensional, there will be better interior pass rushers available than him so the value he adds as a pass rusher is more likely on 1st and 2nd down when he's already in the game - he's not vita vea who has outrageous lateral mobility at his size

he's definitely one of if not my top want in this draft. Well realistic wants anyway.

idk that there was any smokescreen there at all - ravens never suggested they were going after zeke - everyone and their aunt knew they were going after ramsey if they made that trade (hence why they were trying to get above jacksonville) - i imagine bosa would have been in play too but i dont think they ever expected him to be there

and it would have been whatever they did there (outside of taking elliott)

basically every guy who they reasonably might have picked has gone on to be an all-pro
(Joey Bosa)
Jalen Ramsey
Ronnie Stanley
DeForest Buckner
even Tunsil has gone to multiple pro-bowls (albeit not an all-pro)
I think I saw reports of them potentially taking Elliott but I don't anticipate that they were interested in him. It may have been a smokescreen who knows but I highly doubt they even considered him. I think it was Stanley-Bosa-Ramsey that they were in on and they probably would've traded down if Stanley was gone.

I would be disappointed if we leave the first round with Linderbaum. It's not a huge upgrade over Bozeman and I think we need a RT, Edge, DT, and S where we had issues at. If we come away drafting at a position that didn't cause us problems then I would be let down, especially for a guy who I don't really see as a elite level talent at C.

i dont really care so much about the position - if linderbaum was 12 lbs heavier and was a better fit in the running scheme id have no issues calling him a generational prospect at C and drafting him at 14 with no questions

im also fully behind taking BPA at any position regardless of need in the 1st round - if that happens to be a CB then that's fine by me - in an ideal world the BPA is going to be an OT or an EDGE but if not then that's fine too

was listening to DJ talk today and he thinks we probably see all of the top 6 edges go in the top 20

Dam so this RT is considered a pancake machine huh? He also mentioned that if his pass pro is his weakness, let him know him know and his guaranteed to improve it…. Yea we need him

To be fair, we might be in major OT trouble. If stannley never plays again (or above average) this entire conversation is so different

Think we might be looking to trade back in round 1, day 2 is seriously strong in this draft, wouldn’t be shocked to see a 2018/2020 type of class where we have a ton of picks on day 2. Think guys like faalele, leal, Winfrey, Travis jones, jamaree salyer, ebiketie, Tyler smith, raimann, woolen, and plenty others make up a day 2 where decosta just refuses to miss out, too many Excellent prospects to only take one in R2

Jermaine johnson, obajo. Not to the 2nd rnd but possibly 20s..
