The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: Week 14 Edition

It’s so mind boggling to me that Maclin doesn’t have the presence of mind to know where the sideline is, especially with the game on the line. I mean it wasn’t even a difficult catch. Normally I could accept the fact that the D collapsed and we lost to the Steelers, again. But damn..... Joe and the offense had the win in hand when given only 42 seconds to score, only to have Maclin blow it.

Im sorry i wasnt around guys....

The mind boggling thing that happened to me.....i had a dream the ravens lost 29-28...we lost 39-38.......

Jesus I was pissed off. Sorry y'all. I normally don't get this angry. What a heartbreaking loss. I need to think before I speak lol.

That was a hell of a game though. This game kind of proved something I've been thinking. We really don't need too many pieces to get back to contention status. Sure, Flacco made some boneheaded plays today, but overall he was looking deep, had a few money throws(hell, he made the throw to potentially win us the damn game. It was a tough catch, sure, but it was a catchable one), but I think Flacco is finally starting to become comfortable again(*knock on wood*). Alex Collins looks like a damn good RB. Next season when we replace Buck Allen in the lineup for Dixon, I'm not going to want to face our rushing attack. We will have a very impressive 1-2-3 punch in Collins, Dixon, and Woodhead.

Defensively, I'm pissed off but I think next season it's important to account for a few things. 1. I think we have missed Tavon Young this season far more than realized. His ability to play at a very good level in both the slot and the outside has been sorely missed. I don't think Tavon Young gets his ass kicked like Carr did tonight. Next season, our defense will be better by virtue of Jimmy and Tavon being back. As disappointing as the defense was this game.. It's still flush with talent. CJ mosely is having a down year(possibly because of injury would be my guess, as he looked far more mobile last season). Bowser and Tim Williams may not be having a massive impact as rookies(which is sad..) we have to remember that Landon Collins also looked horrid as a rookie. It's too early to make a judgement call. Likewise, Marlon Humphrey looks good for the most part. Played a good game tonight. He's gonna be a #1 CB at the NFL level. This defense is set for at least the next half decade. The investments we have made over the last two years are paying off. Only real thing we need on the defensive side of the ball next offseason is an ILB and possibly another CB for when Jimmy goes down. Some people will say safety, but I say that Tony Jefferson will turn it around eventually and that Weddle has another year left in him. We should cross that bridge when we get there.

That said. Offensively. We need a legit LG. Hurst is only average. Lewis is not a LG in the slightest and I have no idea why we are going to keep playing him there. Collins is beasting with a makeshift offensive line down it's best man. Imagine this line with Yanda back in it and someone like a Billy Price. He'd be a 1200 yard rusher and you'd be forced to have to contend with another trio.

Skill position wise... Yeah we need work. We need a new TE, and possibly two new WRs. I'm good with keeping one of Wallace or Maclin as a potential #2, but we need someone who can come in and make a positive impact off the bat.

But overall, while this loss was heartbreaking, I think tonight showed that we're not too far away from being contenders again. Let's just hope the offense can continue to find it's groove. Ride Alex Collins and Woodhead damn you!

Jimmy might struggle next year. These injuries take a toll and sometimes it can take more than a season to recover ( remember the 2015 season?)

this team has a long long way to go before it's even close to realisiticly making noise in the playoffs

Which is why I think it's a good idea to go get another CB this offseason. I trust Tavon Young and Humphrey on the outside.

I'll agree about another potential interior pass rusher though.. Even if it's a rotational guy it'd be a good idea to have someone other than Henry who could do it.

Tavon is too small for the outside. 5'8 isn't going to cut it. He got abused quite a few times on the outside last year

When aaron donald was still available at 12 in 2014 i said we needed to trade up and get him.
ILBS are much easier to find. CJ is a solid linebacker, he's not elite.

Tell that to Brandon Flowers who was also a small corner who was damn good on the outside for several seasons. Tavon has ball skills and is good in coverage and was more likely to improve than not given that he was, you know a rookie. He wasn't like Elam who would get burned solely because of height. No matter how you spin it, he was damn good last season. We are missing him big time.

He was totally abused vs the cowboys. Brandon Flowers had more bulk on him.

Tavon is 5'9, only one inch shorter and about ten pounds heavier than Duane Starks, an outside corner for the 2000 defense.

So we are judging a player's overall skillset based off of one career game... Well then Joe Flacco is the most clutch QB in NFL history.

Plus..... He was a rookie and had far more good showings on the outside than bad. You're reaching

Duane starks in his youth was more gifted than tavon. Tavon is a slot guy who can go on the outside the matchup is right. He would be demolished by any physical and 6 foot plus reciever. (unless its perriman)

A whole ten pounds lighter than Flowers. You really think he can't pack that on.

Seriously. He was just a rookie and he held some solid WRs in check last season. I agree that he'd be a stud and he's better suited for the slot, but he's a hell of a lot better than Carr and would've fared better tonight.

I think we need to move on from jimmy smith TBH. he's 30 and this is not an injury which cornerbacks recover well from.

IN a nutshell we need

1: Andrew Norwell ( quenton nelson will be gone by the time we pick) resign jensen.
2: A FA WR
3: Best Pass rushing option available in the first round
2nd round: ILB (best cover guy available)
3rd: TE
3rd comp: Corner

We're basically on the same page. The issue that I had was more so with the play-calling on the two drives prior to the last one. Three very conservative calls prior to the punt were then followed with a pass on first despite the running game being as effective as it was, then a run, and then an RPO where the first option was immediately snuffed out. I would've rather saw us commit to the run on the first two plays and then find try to find the sticks. Again, it feels like it's almost nitpicking considering that the offense almost put up a 40 burger. They're not fully absolved of their inability to persevere in crunch time, but overall, I feel like the last two weeks have been encouraging in that facet moving forward.
Yeah we’re on the same page, but this atrocois game by the defense kind of makes me bypass that.
