The 2022 Offseason Thread

Is this a good thing or bad thing? Linderbaum having issues, Lamar still holding on too long looking for the miracle?

it means neither of those things lol - it just means that Moon had 1 good rep that was particularly notable against the 1s on offence and that with no oweh (in full team drills, he's only doing individuals), no bowser, no ojabo he's clearly getting quality reps that he might normally not get and that he's making the most of that opportunity with only hayes, ferguson and biegel to share reps with

idk why people are talking about likely as a WR or split out in WR sets - to me it seems way more likely (no pun intended) that he's lined up in-line and kolar's more likely to split out into the slot etc.

likely feels like he's got some hurst-like flexibility qualities - not a great in-line blocker right now (but has tools to get better) but is a great lead-blocker and downfield blocker in space - motion him across the formation for lamar or jk to follow on counters and i think you'll see him make some great plays separate to his usage in the passing game

when people talk about him doing more multiple stuff than just a basic TE, im not really thinking about WR, im thinking about it in terms of more of an h-back with true flexibility to split out also

I think John Harbaugh referenced Likely as just a weapon in in their post day three of The NFL draft press conference in after that were done drafting in the fourth round. John Harbaugh even there "wasn't obvious position fit and he is playmaker type" in regards to Likely. So I guess that was enough to think that he maybe used beyond just in a Hayden Hurst type role. Harbaugh and Eric didn't really consider Likely as as a tight end and they seem to keep that as a mystery somewhat.

right but not being just a TE doesn't mean that he's a WR - especially given his measurable traits and the way he was used in college...

think more likely the other bits or more like FB/h-back stuff than WR

one of these breaks is not like the other 3 - look at how proche sinks his hips vs the other 3 guys and how smooth and efficiently he gets in and out of that break

tbf to duvernay that's not the kind of route i expect he's going to be asked to run frequently - you can see in some other clips like a comeback where he gets to work on a vertical plane and even though the break is sharper it's far less about hip rotation and flexibility and more just about sit-down and explode suddenness

id also say from what ive seen of tylan in the clips vs the other 2 so far - he's a ways behind

green dot has to play 100% of the snaps...
so is it still chuck? that would mean surely that kyle would have to come off the field but i guess that wouldnt be completely dissimilar to how marlon was used as a rookie... make him a significant part of the defence but give him drives and snaps off idk...

the only other possibility is maybe PQ steps up and they expect him to play every snap again (but then you reduce your flexibility with your ability to take LBs off the field for racecar packages etc.)

Chucks gonna play here this year and 3 safety is gonna be our base defense. Chuck and Kyle are gonna move up and down based on play design. Next year hamilton wears the dot and chuck is gone.

I think the green dot talk is less meaningful under a new DC anyway, winks defense is far more complicated than any I’ve seen, communication and chemistry is KEY on timed and layered blitzes out of disguised alignments. I doubt the need for a green dot guy is nearly as big as it used to br
