Chucks gonna play here this year and 3 safety is gonna be our base defense. Chuck and Kyle are gonna move up and down based on play design. Next year hamilton wears the dot and chuck is gone.
I think the green dot talk is less meaningful under a new DC anyway, winks defense is far more complicated than any I’ve seen, communication and chemistry is KEY on timed and layered blitzes out of disguised alignments. I doubt the need for a green dot guy is nearly as big as it used to br
you can still only have 1 guy wear it though - and you cant have 2 helmets on the field at the same time with green dots - and you cant have people constantly swapping helmets between plays...
on a purely practical sense you have to have a full-time green dot guy, cant just share it around
and the whole point of this is that chris hewitt literally just said they're not comfortable/planning for kyle to be the green dot wearer
i get that we'll play a ton of 3 safety but for it to be our base we've got to be comfortable with one of those guys in nickel vs slot receivers and that feels like an easy way for offences to punish us
the solution for 2023 and beyond is simple - but it does feel somewhat complicated right now for 2022
