The 2022 Offseason Thread

Could we have maybe filed a grievance against him wolfe though if he didnt agree to the settlement?

depends on whether we could prove the hip injuries were not football related - the burden of proof would be on the ravens

but it's possible that that's why wolfe settled - they compromised on a number that meant both sides wouldnt have to go through a messy arbitration and wolfe knows in his heart that he's getting something for nothing anyway... maybe something like that

alternatively we settled at the full amount just to get him off the roster and open a spot we can use on someone who might actually factor for the football team in the offseason

Quote from Andrews on Bateman.

"He's running great routes," Andrews said. "A lot of his releases, he's getting open at the line super quick. Then he's got a burst of speed that people really don't talk about. Second year, he's a guy that's just going to get better and better. The sky's the limit for him."

Not really worried about bateman… its the rest of those guys that will need to show up

For sure. Not to beat a dead horse, but I think Proche is who he is and that can be a decent WR in this league. Wallace flashed in college but it's a large question mark for the NFL so far. But I have confidence in him. I had a RD2 grade for Wallace.

Duv I'm really pulling for but I'm extremely nervous about him at WR. Good returner, but very little faith in him.

When Harbs was talking about the DL he mentioned only one name in particular and that name was Broderick Washington of all people!

Marlon specifically mentioned Lamar and Andrews have a great connection and so does Lamar and Bateman.

Super positive stuff all around

i caught that - has actually played well when he's been on the field - just not had a ton of reps
probably limited by not being much of a pass rush threat and also not being a nose tackle

but he has already proven himself as valuable as a rotational piece as a run-stuffing 3tech with some flex value along the line situationally (to the extent that you don't mind giving him 5t or even some edge setting responsibilities as a run defender - plays with good aiming points and pad level - he's pretty unspectacular but consistent - someone who i have absolutely no issue with spelling guys on early downs

if we see more broderick washington in 2022 that's probably a good thing - it likely means we're seeing more madubuike and campbell on passing downs

Sounds great!

Broderick Washington has not been terrible. I could imagine developing into a solid rotational guy across a number of spots like a more interior focused jihad ward. He’s been fairly stout

pretty good for basically the only guy in that draft where everyone went... "who?"

there seems to be one guy every year where im like that lol
2022 was pepe
2021 was brandon stephens
2020 was broderick
2018 was zach sieler
2017 was chuck clark
and then it gets hazy trying to go back further than that lol - basically every year except 2019

Not gonna draw major conclusions from the 1st day of minicamp but at least worth noting what order the guys and what positions guys on the OL are going through drills to begin

I think the OL rotations to start day 1 of minicamp are interesting (especially given that mekari was apparently at LT for lots of OTAs)

Here's the depth chart to start minicamp based on the drills i've seen (obviously not drawing conclusions at all because this is the first day everyone's here but it is instructive as to whose jobs are there to lose and who has to actively win)

LT: Ja'Wuan James, Jaryd Jones Smith, [some unknown i assume tryout guy with 62 on his back - EDIT I think his name is David Steinmetz]
LG: Ben Powers, Tyre Phillips, Kahlil McKenzie
C: Tyler Linderbaum, Pat Mekari, Trystan Colon
RG: Kevin Zeitler, Ben Cleveland, Jimmy Murray
RT: Morgan Moses, Daniel Faalele, [TJ Storment who's a tryout guy wearing 76]

most interesting parts of this to me are these...
1) Ja'Wuan James repping with the 1s at LT, I think massively improves his chances of making the roster if they think he can be a swing tackle as opposed to just a RT option - interesting that he's repping there and not Mekari (who apparently has been at LT for some of OTAs)
2) Ben Powers is the incumbent and will be given a chance to hold onto his job - I think it's likely he loses it, just like he hasn't ever actually won the LG job, just ended up with it by default but he's gonna get first crack
3) Tyre Phillips at LG and Ben Cleveland at RG - it's only on the bags and Tyre's always been my dog in the LG fight so maybe it's confirmation bias, but it suggests to me that Phillips is right now still ahead of Cleveland in the LG race or their sides would be swapped
4) Mekari repping with the 2s at C and not with the 1s at LG or at LT... combine that with Colon being C with the 3rd group and I think perhaps this is a sign that they really value Mekari's 5 position versatility as a backup and that may well make Colon more expendable... maybe an indicator that James is making this roster as the swing tackle

that's reading a lot into the order of guys on day 1 of drills, especially at G where I imagine there will be a ton of rotation of all 3 (or 4) of the main candidates in that battle

am i reading too much into all this? 100%
will that stop me? absolutely not...

especially after 2020 when i managed to work out tyre phillips was the starter over dj fluker and others based on some random practice clips despite the beat writers being gagged (not allowed to talk about depth chart related stuff and other wrinkles like position switches etc. unless they become obvious in preseason play like pat ricard a few years ago)

Can we fail Pierce’s physical and get out of his contract?

Pull a Ryan Grant

they don't play the same position
pierce already had to pass a physical to have the deal officially signed

apparently it's a personal reason (and therefore likely an excused absence) that he's not at minicamp

Lol I know. Just messing. I just hope it isn’t a weight issue.

sure - but even if it is, we saw that it doesnt matter as long as he's in shape for week 1 - he got his big contract from the vikings after a great season where he was literally barred from practice early in training camp because of how out of shape he was

just you wait until we go jumbo with Daniel Faalele as the 6th OL outside Morgan Moses, Nick Boyle outside him, Pat Ricard in at FB, maybe Isaiah Likely in the backfield as an H-back or maybe even Pat Mekari on the OL too, with Gus Edwards lined up behind Lamar

maybe even with us unbalanced so the OL looks like Pat Mekari (subbing in as 6th/7th man), Tyre Phillips, Linderbaum, Zeitler, Moses, Stanley (unbalanced formation), Faalele, Boyle with Tyre pulling right to either kickout or hit the LB in the gap and Ricard lead-blocking through the hole and if Lamar keeps it then you've got Gus lead-blocking as well

try and stop that shit in short yardage lol
this will be the play where Faalele passes the ball to Edwards or maybe even Lamar, but I digress.
