The 2022 Offseason Thread

Chucks gonna play here this year and 3 safety is gonna be our base defense. Chuck and Kyle are gonna move up and down based on play design. Next year hamilton wears the dot and chuck is gone.

I think the green dot talk is less meaningful under a new DC anyway, winks defense is far more complicated than any I’ve seen, communication and chemistry is KEY on timed and layered blitzes out of disguised alignments. I doubt the need for a green dot guy is nearly as big as it used to br

you can still only have 1 guy wear it though - and you cant have 2 helmets on the field at the same time with green dots - and you cant have people constantly swapping helmets between plays...

on a purely practical sense you have to have a full-time green dot guy, cant just share it around

and the whole point of this is that chris hewitt literally just said they're not comfortable/planning for kyle to be the green dot wearer

i get that we'll play a ton of 3 safety but for it to be our base we've got to be comfortable with one of those guys in nickel vs slot receivers and that feels like an easy way for offences to punish us

the solution for 2023 and beyond is simple - but it does feel somewhat complicated right now for 2022

I guess no open training camp again this year. I really miss going to the Castle.
That stinks. What I really miss was the Westminster training camp where anyone could go anytime you want . We would go to an afternoon training camp session and then hit the pubs on Main St. for a few pints and talk about the Ravens. That i really miss.

I know it's probably minuscule in the grand scheme of things, but I'm loving the energy we're seeing from the guys this year - guys like Proche and Pepe in particular. You need guys like that for the grind. Last year felt so "business only" to some extent. It's great to see guys stepping up and bringing some fun back. Feel like we've been missing that since Ingram left.

was just thinking the same thing - and i imagine part of that was the personnel tier lists and how the guys were (or weren't) allowed to interact with the fans and the social media ppl and those restrictions are all gone now

i imagine we'll get to see more stuff pre-game and coming out of the tunnel etc. from the socials too

but yeah 2019 was the gold standard for just good fun energy and with the combination of the way that season ended, the pandemic, the injuries and also the loss of some characters like mark ingram

Seems like Proche and Bateman are the primary standouts at WR. Think Wallace has been working with the QB2 most often and been decent there. Almost no reports on Duv.

Undrafted guys are not talked about at all. When people tweet Jeff he just says it's a whole Lotta nothing. No consistency.

We probably can't get away with WR5 as someone already on this roster.

To be fair to the young guys, I don't think the intent was ever that they expected one of them to step up. It was more of a situation where they wanted to throw more darts. Take a shot on these young guys instead of some eh veteran and see what shakes out over these offseason activities. I'd be shocked if all 6 UDFAs and Moore and Victor are all on the roster say, a week into camp.

notable that when i watch the drills it's always one of proche or duvernay first through it to set the example - sometimes bateman too

but it's always the same 6 guys through first:
Proche
Bateman
Duvernay
Jaylon Moore
Bin Victor
Wallace

wallace normally 5th or 6th through

a load of bag drills with breaks this morning that there's video of on kyle barber's twitter - proche's the gold standard going through those drills - and it reminds me of the movement and flexibility skills that you saw utilised on Bateman's first TD last year - knee, ankle and hip flexion on show

ive seen and heard nothing that anyone from beyond those 6 has done anything of anything and that's extra concerning because we know that moore and victor aren't guys you want making your 53 but they're great guys to have in camp to work with your rookies and 2nd/3rd/4th qbs

tylan wallace seems to have had a quiet start to the offseason but he is more of a physical receiver despite being shorter and smaller so may well just not be his time to shine in the offseason

would suggest it's very clearly proche and duvernay in the drivers seat right now

Right it wasn't the expectation but they wanted to try. Seems to have not hit. That's ok. Just gotta bring in one guy.

Yeah I don't think we'll see any inactive on game day Proche this year. In fact I doubt we have any receivers inactive. Mayyybe Wallace if we bring in a good vet, but they like him on ST.

It would not be great if Victor is WR5 imo.

i think we might lose one or two especially if the tryout guys show something and we know we're gonna bring in a vet at some point - we need enough guys to get through camp and preseason but with huntley now in year 3 we also don't need to evaluate him in the same way so just a few guys to get us through the final 3 quarters of all the preseason games is fine - you know moore and victor are gonna be there during preseason because that's literally why they're here so the question at this point is how many udfa guys do we even need to make it through preseason and maybe find the one or 2 guys who we might want to keep around for 2023 offseason

i dont think he will be - just saying right now it's pretty clear that WR5 and WR6 are a combination of him and jaylon moore right now - none of the udfas look close

wallace will 100% be active every game - proche's still somewhat more in danger if he doesnt win the WR2/WR3 job because of the special teams roles that wallace and duvernay play but hard to imagine at this point that proche will be any lower than 3rd on the depth chart and i think he'd have to be WR5 to feasibly be deactivated and even that's a stretch

Seems like the 3 "standouts" of the UDFA group so far have been Devon Williams, Shemar Bridges, and Slade Bolden. Not that any have done anything great but it seems like they have something to build on while the Polk, Clark, and Webb trio could be the guys that fall off in favor of a vet or tryout guy at some point.

Could also see them fall off for guys not at WR too. Have to imagine we're going to need to add a ST or two just to keep guys like Tucker, Stout, and Moore fresh. And when you look at 12 WRs, it's an easy place to drop from. Luckily you can roster them as "tryout" guys during this portion but going to need to create room during camp if they want someone like that.
