Way-Too-Early Prospect Watch: 2019

im not sure how that works. would we get a comp pick for him if he left ?
It wouldn’t be a comp pick, but it would be based on what round you tendered him. If you give him a 2nd round tender you get a 2nd round pick in exchange for the upcoming draft.

@allblackraven You brought him up first, and I haven't said anything because I didn't want to jinx anything for my Buffs. Laviska Shenault might be the best pound for pound receiver in the country right now. Dude is a stud.

And Steven Montez looks like a good QB prospect himself. Both were unexpected

Yep, Montez is fun to watch, too. But Shenault is incredible. If he is lucky to go to NFL team with OC who knows how to use him, he will be a weapon.

Even if he's strictly a WR and not used like a gadget guy, he's got the tools of a #1. Knack for tough contested catches, smooth route runner, great hands, good long speed, good power, and burst.

Unless we tank next season we are not going to be in range.

Montez went to camp with Peyton and Eli Manning. He was always a great athlete with a big arm, now he can read defenses and is accurate. It was unexpected as all hell. He needs some work and will be a project but he does have upside. I'd take him in the mid rounds if he was dumb enough to come out this year.

i dont know what value id put on him yet but stylistically he's a really nice fit for joe (if we keep joe of course - but i assume we are keeping joe)
Even after the Browns, I think we keep Joe. Not a lot of key FAs this year, we have some cap room to play with even if we keep him on the books. Even if we sniff the posteason(I think we make it. I don't buy into the bullshit narrative that "if we lose to the Browns that determines the fate for the rest of our season), why break up a winning team?

Harris is literally perfect for Joe. Great vision, good long speed(yes, I'm tagging you @Ravensnation5220 because you said he doesn't have it), great short area burst and quickness and he has some pop to him power wise and can make very good cuts. He's not Bryce Love in terms of explosiveness, but he does two things Love can't. Pass protect well, and is a great receiver out of the backfield. There's nothing wrong with his game at all, and he fits into just about every scheme you could put him into.

He's the best pro back Bama has had since Eddie Lacy(who'd still be good if he didn't go full feast mode). His game translates better to the pros than a Derrick Henry's did(who ran way too upright and was not a good cutter in the slightest and was less powerful than that frame indicated), and he's actually a very good athlete for the RB position unlike a TJ Yeldon(who is more akin to Buck Allen). Harris isn't some elite prospect akin to a Saquon Barkley, but he's probably the most well rounded RB prospect in this draft.

This year I'll focus on FS, Edge/Pass rusher and RB. Those of you who are high on Damien Harris, do you really feel comfortable picking him in the 1st round because I don't see him lasting until the 3rd round. I'd rather take a FS or OL than a RB this year in the 1st.

Honestly, I think the team thinks we have our solution at FS in Elliot. I think we drafted him to groom. Dude is a football player and his only real knock on him was that he lacked athleticism in college; he looked a hell of a lot faster and ranger in the preseason and he did have things about his game you just can't teach. I could see him being a starting safety in this league and being an absolute steal. I don't necessarily agree with the move(though Weddle is here to stay I think with the final year of his contract. He's proving that last year Pees was the problem and that his "athletic decline" was a hilariously false narrative)

I'm with you on the offensive line but assuming that Brown jr. Is eventually inserted at RT and Yanda stays another year, we are only going to really need a starting C. I think that the team is comfortable with Hurst as a LG and while he's massively overrated by certain fans(@JoeyFlex5), he was a decent starter. We need a C and I absolutely agree. The thing is, good interior olinemen are found in the middle rounds all the time. Elite players don't grow on trees but starting caliber guards do so in spades. Hell, Matt Birk was a sixth round pick. Marshal Yanda was a third round pick. Getting a C would be the only real priority right now over Damien Harris. Given how strong the interior offensive line class is I could see us drafting a few of them and attacking in the middle rounds. Especially since Nico Siragusa and Bradley Bozeman have starter upside in the long run.

But here's the thing. I think Alex Collins is a clear cut starting caliber RB and we can tender him on the cheap. Buck Allen is a FA but he will likely come back, also for cheap(he's a good RB but he's nothing special). Flacco has always been a checkdown QB. Always. It's what he's done best. You give him his TEs and RBs to allow him to attack short yardage area, a jumpball WR, and a few deep threats to boot. I think the team viewed Snead as a guy who can fill the checkdown role, and it's one he's suited for, but we're missing that checkdown guy. As much as I thought Sony Michel was overrated, I would not have been upset if we had taken him or Mark Walton, or even a Ronald Jones III(who I thought was massively overrated) for that reason. This offense has a lot of firepower but we lack that guy on third downs who can turn a 4 yard reception out of the backfield into a thirty yard gain. People really forget how impactful Ray Rice was in the passing game. Harris and LJ Scott have that kind of talent, and either would be a great fit here. And Harris is a pro bowl talent if I've ever seen it. Even with that dominant offensive line in front of him, he's got power, explosiveness, speed, and quick cuts. He's a taller Ray Rice or MJD and a scheme versiitle RB. If we have a late round pick and make the postseason, Flacco is staying, and we are likely retaining most of our FAs and can afford to get some oline help in FA too. We'd be one of the most complete teams in the league from top to bottom, and Harris might be that missing piece. We make the postseason we have a two year window in all likelihood and Harris could very well be the guy to push the team over the top. So yes, I would take that chance.

I wouldn’t put my hopes / future up in a safety we drafted in the 6th round who only played preseason so far. If someone like deionte thompson falls to us in the first, we have to bite.

Damien Harris does look nice, it’s a toss up between him and David Montgomery for me. Both are bottom of the first - second round talent. Aka we won’t take any of them because BPA and we don’t have a 2nd.

Thanks for your detailed answer. The way I see it, Suggs isn't here for another 2-3 seasons. He might retire after this season. I don't want to pay Za'Darius the money he'll get this upcoming FA and it looks for now Bowser's not what we all wanted him to be and he's more of a hybrid LB. Judon's ok but not consitent enough to let him play full-time.
Let's say we're picking in the early 20's if Deonte Thompson, J.Allen and Harris are there I'd pick both over Harris. Deonte Thompson in my eyes is an elite player. I'll agree with on your take regarding that interior olinemen can be found in the later rounds, maybe Gaillard is a mid round C. But Skura, Lewis are still question marks and Yanda who's playing at a very high level isn't here forever. Good RB's can be found in every round aswell, Swift or the Kentucky or Utah RB are those type of RBs.

as always BPA will win out - we dont know where we'll be picking yet and we dont know how some of these prospects will progress or do in the CFB post-season or how they'll hold up after stringently nitpicking all the film... to talk about either or between positions is probably a little early in the process

that can also be said for the harris discussion and that's also why I'm posting it in the way too early thread.

What do you mean "we don't know"?
16, 17, 15 - interchangable with Titans and Seahawks.

I haven’t overrated hurst at LG lmao I said he was a dependable starter and clesrly the best option on the roster, and if we had to roll with him long term I’d be comfortable with it.

I’d be a lot more comfortable with him at LG if we had an upgrade at center though.

They have an obsession with taking defensive players everyone sees as a late 2nd round project. TJ watt and shazier are the only defenders they’ve gotten right in recent memory, and even with shazier the consensus was that Mosley was the better LB.
You mean the Steelers drafting players like Terell Edmunds who is versitile but not a good playerss for what they want is not a good way to build a defense? Great. Keep doing your thing Steelers. I think it would be great if you kept drafting players who can suck at multiple positions.

They clearly followed in decostas footsteps from 2012 to 2016. Taking pages right outta his book
