Lamar’s threat definitely helps as well, and we just played two horrible run defenses.Well, Gus Edwards didn't actually start until Lamar did. That's the biggest thing, I think.

When lamar runs the zone read, he keys in on the linebacker opposite the side the RB is headed, if the LB is drawn inside by the run then lamar keeps and takes advantage and burns toward the edge, if the LB contains or crashes the edge then the rb has an advantage of a defender being taken away from the box and basically gives us a one man advantage.I don't understand why the run game is so much better with Lamar than Joe. Is it because they have to account for Lamar as a runner?
Or is it something more. Joe has never been good at selling ball fakes and Lamar can use his legs to help him make additional passing progressions.
You look at Joe on the sidelines and he knows he's gone.
I'll always appreciate him for the Super Bowl Win.
And it’s obvious he is doing the work to get better. Just look at how much he has changed his mechanics since he was drafted.Lamar gets very unhappy when he doesn't do well or throws a pick.
He seems very determined to get better and I like his attitude.
Yeah you're right. The hardest throws, at least for you, are when you're trying to get laid and you throw yourself out there and get rejected. That is just so not true
I know lol, but I swear that’s gotta be some nerve wracking shit, seeing a man wide open 30 yards downfield with nobody up front and you gotta hit them in strideThat is just so not true

I'm like the hulk. Instead of always being angry, I'm always drunk. That's my secretI think @Lost_In_Translation is drinking again
I’ll accept itI'm like the hulk. Instead of always being angry, I'm always drunk. That's my secret
Reality check. That’s all on Marty. Lamar took wayyyyy less hits yesterday. He just cramped up. Flacco doesn’t open up the offense like Lamar does.Reality check. The Ravens offensive performance against the Raiders was the second worst compared to the Raiders other opponents. Without the scores on Defense and special teams, the Ravens would have had their hands full with one of the worst Defenses in the league.
One thing that the Ravens did well, was the second half adjustment to run more and throw less. It ate up clock, and they won time of possession, keeping the Raiders offense off the field.
Unfortunately, this is not sustainable long term with keeping Lamar healthy.
He is also doing remarkable job of holding the ball pre run/handoff, so D is likely to react late - takes that extra bit of time (sometimes more than a bit) to figure out who has the damn ball. When lamar runs the zone read, he keys in on the linebacker opposite the side the RB is headed, if the LB is drawn inside by the run then lamar keeps and takes advantage and burns toward the edge, if the LB contains or crashes the edge then the rb has an advantage of a defender being taken away from the box and basically gives us a one man advantage.
And in the zone read, you typically want a power back because the rb is usually gonna be attacking the A/B gap, the option forces edge commitment opening up the interior, which is where Gus excels, and he’s been able to hit holes fast and hard and by the time the LBs catch on and key in on Gus it’s too late because he’s too powerful for arm tackles.
It’s just a perfect storm honestly and none of this works without the threat of lamar to the edge. Even the threat of joe throwing deep can’t clear out a box quite like lamar can
Oh yeah, that’s a bonus, I’m just breaking down what makes a zone read so effective compared to a regular run game, it would be effective anyway but lamars gift with faking that hand off makes it that much better. It won’t always help the RB but that extra second holding up the key LB could buy him the edge almost every time. With that great fake he could take the edge on ANY snap unless the key LB commits to the edge regardless of his read, and if that’s happening than you’re completely eliminating a box defender and adding a blocker or 2 because any TE/OT that may be on the backside can just get to the second level. He is also doing remarkable job of holding the ball pre run/handoff, so D is likely to react late - takes that extra bit of time (sometimes more than a bit) to figure out who has the damn ball.

Especially in today's version of the NFL, which resembles college football more and more.Lamar was basically untouched this game.
Marty called a shit game the first half and the halftime adjustment should’ve never been needed because it should’ve been the gameplan from the start.
Clock control and heavy running will always lag behind high flying air attacks statistically, but for the few teams who can move the ball consistently on the ground, the real numbers will be seen in the win column, not the total yardage. In today’s nfl, if you’re able to field a top defense while keeping the bombs away offenses on the sideline, you’ll upset some teams and win a lot of games.
While exaggerating a bit his point is valid. The Raiders defense ranks near the bottom giving up about 30 points a game, our offense scored 17.Lamar was basically untouched this game.

Well 2 possessions were taken from our offense because our D and ST scored, a rookie mistake by mark Andrews to turn his head on a mad dash to the endzone prevented a TD. And regardless the point still stands, you don’t need high flying offense to win if you are controlling the clock and playing good defense. While exaggerating a bit his point is valid. His comment only holds water when you are playing shit defense and then the clock control means nothing. If you have a top defense, keeping it fresh and not expending your whole playbook is crucial.
