Lamar Jackson

if Lamar plays on the franchise tag we won't be able to do anything in free agency

which does not strike me as something Lamar would want. Something interesting about last years draft was a conversation between EDC and Jackson.

EDC asked Jackson what he felt he needed to which the answer was O-line. They went out and got Lindy. I think it's a good sign that they are together when making decisions

Look I 100% agree with you. I'm just going to play contrarian for sake of discussion even though I don't really believe this. What if they know they're so far off in terms of money that they know right now they need to trade him.

So what they need to do is 2 things. Not make themselves look desperate and decrease the trade value AND not destroy their reputation by making it look like they didn't try to sign him. Like this could all be a way of making the Ravens look like they live their guys so when they trade him they can say he just didn't play ball there's nothing else we could've done.

Makes Lamar that bad guy.
You know what? Initially, after the presser, I felt great! I was like, Yeah! They want to keep my guy L-Jack for the long term because they know they have a great thing in him and his abilities to build around. However, the more I began to look at it (the presser), it does come across as a smoke screen to make Lamar appear to be the bad guy by not being "willing" to compromise somewhat to get the deal done. EDC alluded to that notion with his "It takes two to tango," comment.

Sadly, even after they said all the right and good things in that presser many Ravens fans, former NFL players, and sports media analysts don't buy it! Perhaps the presser was designed to be a tool to toss out the narrative that the Baltimore Ravens wanted to do everything in their power to make a deal happen but it didn't happen because of Lamar. While all along, they know that they will either tag him or tag him and trade him. Well, as they say, "talk is cheap." If Lamar is "the guy," "your guy," then make it happen by SHOWING HIM THE MONEY!

That gives off the impression that he is greedy and only thinks of himself and not the overall effectiveness of the team. EDC alluded to that notion with his "It takes two to tango," comment.

Sadly, many Ravens fans, former NFL players, and sports media analysts feel the same way! The presser comes across as a mere smokescreen to show a united front by the Ravens brass (Bisciotti, EDC and Harbaugh, etc.) in tossing out the narrative that we wanted to make a deal happen but it didn't happen because of Lamar. While along, they know that they may either tag him or tag him and trade him. Well, as they say, "talk is cheap." Pressers are otherwise known as feel good sessions.

I'd be shocked if the Ravens pay Lamar the franchize tag. He's not getting a 100% guaranteed contract and neither are Burrow and Herbert and who knows the Bengals and Chargers may play the string out just like the Ravens. They're either paying or trading.
Yeah, this is the way I see it as well. If they can't find common ground for a contract it's tag and trade.

By all accounts they already did show Lamar the money and are doing all they are willing to do to keep him, seems he just doesn't think it's enough. But I seriously doubt they move much on what they've already offered, especially considering he just spent another season where he was out the last third or so of the games.

Is it that Lamar doesn't think that it is enough or that it isn't "fair" in comparison to the QB market and those who have not accomplished what he has in his 5-year tenure in the NFL and with the Ravens but they have been paid more?

When comparing the market gotta remember the Browns are an ass orginization.

You tell me, but I think it’s the first thing.

LMAO! They are trying!

If I am reading that article you posted correctly, then it says that it was a 6 year 133million guaranteed.

If that's the case then no, I don't think they are trying when Murray got a 5 year 160 guaranteed contract.

Again IF

Heard he turned down 160-180 guaranteed and that they offered him 133 guaranteed. I choose not to believe the leaks, but if the 133 number is right the FO deserves every bit of what they're getting now in negotiations. That offer is flat out disrespectful as hell if true.

I don’t think that article captured the exact figure of the total guaranteed money which is reported to be closer to $170 mil. minimum.
This article may help to clarify a bit.

It was more than Murray and Wilson "that would have paid him $133 million fully-guaranteed at signing. That’s more than Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray ($103.3 million) and Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson ($124 million)".

unless the NFLPA released this information, than they really don't know, because even EDC said in the presser that he was really happy that none of the information that he and Lamar have been talking about has been released. He did say that the only information that got out came from the NFLPA.

That's why i mostly ignore it. None of us know what the actual numbers are.

And the NFLPA is terrible. Has to be the worst of all the major sports.

And if I remember correctly the info from the NFLPA pointed to Lamar wanting a fully guaranteed contract. Is that right?

That’s where the leak came from. He was directly referencing those numbers.
