Lamar Jackson

So where I disagree is the "continue working with him" aspect. If Lamar's demands are just to a point that we're not going to go, what's the point of trying this all over again for another year or so? I don't think it's the amount of the tag that's the issue here for the Ravens - it's their belief in that the market is what they think it is and that will spur talks back to being realistic.

To me, the only other purpose of the exclusive tag is if you think Burrow, Hurts, Herbert, etc. are getting paid soon and aren't getting fully guaranteed, but even I'm not sure that will sway Lamar if all of this is true.
yes but if some team comes in a front loads more than we can handle we will only get 2 1st round picks for him. Atleas if we do the exclusive tag on him we will be able to get more. That also doesn't mean he will be a Raven in 2023 either so it's not a guarantee we will be doing this for another year.

I also think one or two of Burrow, Hurts and Herbert will get paid this offseason and it won't be guaranteed.

Rodgers isn’t going to be cheap either
Only reason I mentioned him was that he's already under contract and it would only be 2 more years for us with no extension. Packers on the line for most of the bonus. Would give us a vet and room to build.

People laughed at me when I suggested they signed that deal with purpose knowing that they could do it and screw the Division who had two young QB's who were going to come up to FAgency. They had so much in cap available they could do whatever they wanted. I think they had top 5 most cap space at the time. It interesting others are latching on now. We need to just cut bait and not be trolled into taking on a contract that will limit what we can do on the rest of the team.

What would really be justice to me is signing Baker for a stop gap and using all of the capital from a Lamar trade to win a SB with their guy. F them.

I just see no way we do a deal with Lamar that ends up costing significantly about the Franchise Tag number for 3/4 or 4/5 of the years of the contract. That's just stupid, imo. Love how the guy plays. Don't mind him betting on himself, but I think I'd respect the Ravens even more by just folding and saying, you know - this is just too rich for us right now. Not to mention how distracting the whole thing is to the rest of the team.
I really don't want Baker, if Lamar is gone we should roll with a cheap option like AB, and try to just go 49er-mode

Andrews- Kittle
Dobbins-McCaffrey
Deebo- ?

We have some pieces but not receiver .
Deebo can run like a back and CMC run routes like a wr. As much as we trash fullback juice can actually be a "threat" in the passing game. So they can come out in the same personnel as us and be running much different formations. That stresses a defense. And I'm not sure if you think highly of Kyle but he's one of the greatest offensive minds in the game right now

I struggle to see it that way. Exclusive to me just delays the inevitable - you can't reach a deal...
Delays the inevitable and it also forces Lamar into a situation where he risks losing value do to injury or a bad season on a one year tag. Use the non-exclusive tag, let him go test the market, and take the two 1st round picks and move on. Or maybe even match an offer that’s more reasonable.

At this point I’m not even sure Lamar still wants to be here.

and why do you think that. We still can extend him until mid July.

oh, he wants an extension. He just seems to want more guaranteed money.
Well……yeah, but there in lies the problem. If they are at an impass on g money do you think an extension would be acceptable to him? I mean I guess the upside for him would be the other Q back contracts coming after this season, but if it were me I would want my deal ASAP.

I'm 90% sure his deal made him highest paid at the time and he got most guaranteed at that point. Then the team doubled down when he was playing the most mediocre brand of football. Our qb play after the sb minus 1 year had all kinds of sticks and seeds in it an many here stood behind that bullshit. I just think it's funny the depths people will go for their guy while trying to act impartial.
Maybe that is the case. I don't know that he deserved the league best, but he deserved to be paid by us...
Would argue it wasn't the totality of the deal that made Flacco a pariah - it was the structure. Backloaded the fuck out of that do to poor pre-planning and that's why we had to double down. A deal of that size should have been completely manageable at the time.
I think what left a bad taste in the mouth was that we had no alternate plan and extended when he was only mediocre at best and it caused dead space and not being able to do some things.

Either way, it's history that we should be looking at now.

So as someone else posted in the other teams thread, the rumor that Daniel Jones wanted $45M a year was spread by his former agency in order to make him look bad. That's pretty scummy to do that, and with the NFLPA helping Lamar in his contract negotiations, how much of what we hear in the media is just BS and lies coming from the NFLPA in order to make us look bad? We've never had leaks, and now suddenly we hear Lamar isn't returning calls from EDC?

“Our relationship with Lamar [Jackson], I think is fantastic every single day," DeCosta said.

All this talk in the media completely contradicts what Eric said in the end of season press conference. I truly think we end up signing him long term before the season begins, but I think just like the Daniel Jones situation where his former agency was trying to make him look bad, the NFLPA is misleading Lamar and doing whatever to make the team, EDC and Harbaugh all look bad in the process.
