Lamar Jackson

He was dug in before Hurts....
Yeah that's the big question now. Now that he's seen yet another deal not come close to what he's asking, does he realize that he needs to come down on his ask? Guessing the answer is no but you've got to imagine his team is at least taking note on this deal.

I'm blanking. You said another. Who was before Hurts?

Really makes you wonder at this point. Gotta think we'd slightly increase the guaranteed at signing if it was a reasonable counter, but it just seems like none of it has been. Hard to bridge a gap that large if he truly does want Watson levels, but this deal certainly doesn't help Lamar's case.
Also going to be a great indicator in the next few weeks or months if this literally means anything to Lamar. Will signify his position in some ways. He looks at something like this and decides "its not relevant", pretty good indication of his long term position and makes it easier to consider trading him in the next 12 months or so.

Ideally he actually starts being proactive in his own financial deals and comes back with counters that the Ravens are interested in.

Jalen Hurts deal is first to the table!

5 years, $255M total with about $180M guaranteed ($110M at signing). Bar has been set. Let's see if this helps us at all.
Let’s hope so. Hopefully this will at least trigger some movement in the negotiations.

I offered $200M in total guarantees with that statement, fyi. Not guaranteed at signing.

Again, not into bidding ourselves up and would not make this offer as of now, but let's say Lamar countered now at $150M guaranteed at signing with $200M total, I think the Ravens would think long and hard about it. Gives Lamar a sizable increase without being absurd about it.

But the big thing as always... not sure Lamar would stoop to that level based on the reports we've gotten if he's as dug in as they say.
Right. But its pretty clear Lamar doesn't treat anything outside of "guaranteed at signing" as guaranteed $. And he seems to be largely alone at that thinking.

Amazing what agents can do when they're motivated...

Agreed and that’s what’s so unfortunate. With how these deals are structured, that money is coming his way regardless. It just doesn’t get paid out day 1.

I mean Hurts is far and away the closest comp to Lamar as a player as you're going to get in the next few years. Lamar has the MVP award, Hurts as a SB appearance. Could easily argue the latter is more valuable to a team than the former.

High end players who you could argue have produced similar or better results than Lamar in the last few years, are signing deals that are exponentially closer to offers Lamar has already gotten than the one Lamar is seeking.
I would argue Hurts is in a stronger negotiating position not because of the SB vs MVP debate (for an individual contract an MVP says far more), but because Hurts just had his peak season. This would be like negotiating with Lamar as though its 2020 and not 2023.

Basically the comp is that Lamar has had the higher peak but Hurts' peak is last season whereas Lamar's peak season (so far) was 4 seasons ago and generally you get the biggest payday when you sign right at your peak season.

I sincerely doubt the Ravens will ever get to $200M gtd at signing. I'm not even sure Lamar getting to a SB next year gets us to that #. And it certainly ain't happening this year.

So if that's what he wants, he can play the year on the tag.

But there's no way anybody looks at this deal and says "great news for Lamar". People can play whatever game they want to play with "well player X doesn't compare to Lamar" or whatever, but every single deal that happens that drifts the market further away from Watson is bad for Lamar.
When i saw the deal, it was “ dam ,after one decent season with the best team assembled in the last few yrs and still couldnt win”…. so does lamar really want a fully gtd like watson? i really dnt know.

Now this is true

So you’re saying rape is worse than murder? Both are terrible but…….really? Here’s the thing, Watson has not been convicted of rape, Ben has never been convicted of rape, Ray was not convicted of murder. People say shit all the time but it doesn’t make it true, and it doesn’t make it relevant to the discussion.
Yea i def think rape is far beyond worse than murder but thats just me..thats what i mean though, watson case wasnt even about rape and these crazy mfs still say it, if it was then i could understand. Convicted or not though, once your name is even involved in that shit, that label gonna stick

I mean thats all lamar contract was though correct? Basically 3yr 133 million? not after that was gtd?

He reportedly had an additional $50M or so in roster bonuses that count as guaranteed money because it essentially is. Just not paid out at signing
