Lamar Jackson

I agree, it’s not rocket science. The defense will always focus on taking away your strength. You can blame Harbaugh, Roman, or whomever, but this offense, at least since Lamar has been here, has not been built to be a prolific passing team.

The biggest problem I have with that comparison is that Lamar’s sample size is too small with respect to big Ben. If you want to compare first 5 years for both then maybe it looks different. And the obvious difference is that they are very different style QB’s.

I hate the nitpicking that appears to happen when talking about Lamar Jackson. Dude is feared when he has ball. Period. And it forces Lamar fans to bring up stats etc etc.

He’s been in the league for just 5 years with an MVP and lead the league in passing TDS. Give him time

GRo's scheme takes a lot of abuse but let's not forget how prolific the run game was 2019 and 2020. Success passing both years, especially 2019, was definitely enhanced due to teams having to respect the run.

Can’t we attribute that to how insane Lamar’s legs really are? He’s the greatest non RB runner the league has ever seen.

We are arguably 2 years of injuries away from watching him rush for 1k yards in 4 straight years.

Kudos to Roman for run schemes, he’s second to none, and I’d imagine he do damage with Vick as well back in the day

Well, mostly, because what Ben said isn't really wrong. I don't think any team that schemes to stop Lamar focus on trying to take away his ability to throw the football. I think they'll scheme to take away his TEs and flood the middle of the field, but keeping Lamar in the pocket is precisely what teams typically want when they play us.
Yea this is pretty much it. When teams play us, do you think they put on videos of Lamars scrambles or his pocket passing first? It's very very hard to stop Lamar from running all over you. It's not remotely as difficult to stop him from passing on you. When he is on he will pick you apart no doubt. But if we aren't getting 5 yards on our first down run, the middle of the field is covered, and Lamar gets in his head early on, we all know the game is completely over. And I dont think even our past coaches would disagree with that, its literally hot we built the team.

the future hope in this new offense is different, we have seen flashes of Lamar being able to dominate with his arm only too- also not arguable.

IMO that is a big reason I wouldn't hate to see him play on the tag this year. Use your above average wr room, top o line, best tight end in the room, and great backs. +the new offensive coach. If you do well and stay healthy, give Lamar 57 mil a year guarnteeded because we all know when he is on, and playing, he deserves that.

Bruce Arians was their OC until 2011 ish
There offensive coaches post Bruce, espically Todd Haley, are probably the only reason they dont have 7 or 8 rings. I can recall so many games where I was thrilled with the shit play calling he specifically made that kept us in the game. anytime he let ben fully sling it they'd put up 40 points

2014, #2 offense in the league, 2015 #3 offense in the league, 2016 #3 offense in the league, 2017 #7 offense in the league

No question! 2019 LJ reminded me of Barry Sanders, electric! Point being that scheme and Lamar's running abilities opened up the pass game. GRo gets trashed, but he played a big part in those early successes.

Agreeded. Idk how people can simultaneously argue Lamar leading the league in TDS and being MVP while also saying g ro was the worst guy ever.

All the situations are far more fluid than people give credit for

Passing so rarely definitely helped the passing game's efficiency, but Roman's weakness with the passing game didn't make the most of that. It's hard to argue that Roman helped Lamar as a passer compared to the average NFL OC.

Also, the Steelers have usually had a strong run game supporting Rapelisberger too.

Time to wake up Lamar and sign :

The Watson contract was never going to be the new thing. The NFLPA telling Lamar that it was is how this got started. Bad advice from the get go...

I was thinking ….. I haven’t been on here in a minute so not sure if it’s already been said but maybe just maybe Lamar just doesn’t want to play for Baltimore anymore … all the diff scenarios of contracts being talked about as offered and all the speculation of what he is asking for ….. possibly he just wants a new scene to play

How does having one of the most prolific running games ever translate into "Passing so rarely...." ? GRo's offense was designed to take advantage of Lamar's strengths. Do you think LJ wins the 2019 MVP playing in a West Coast or spread offense?

I don't really care about the Ben thing, what he said is true regardless of the stat chart comparison. Teams fear him as a runner, not as a pocket passer, or because of his passing accuracy.

If this is the case I hope he's communicated that so they can move on from him on draft night.

But that running usually doesn't last as long as passing

Odd then that he’s seen publicly time and time again wearing his ravens chain

I sincerely doubt the Ravens will ever get to $200M gtd at signing. I'm not even sure Lamar getting to a SB next year gets us to that #. And it certainly ain't happening this year.

So if that's what he wants, he can play the year on the tag.

But there's no way anybody looks at this deal and says "great news for Lamar". People can play whatever game they want to play with "well player X doesn't compare to Lamar" or whatever, but every single deal that happens that drifts the market further away from Watson is bad for Lamar.
at signing no, but they have already offered 200m guaranteed per Ellison. She said the 2nd yr added an additional amount that brought the amount to 200m

Right but "guaranteed" isn't really guaranteed. It's the same rolling "guarantees" that we've been talking about for months.

The difference is the same difference its been for months. Watson got $230M gtd at signing, and literally nobody else has been within $100M of that. And whether Lamar wants that or not, he wants substantially more than what the Ravens, or literally any other team, is willing to offer him in that regard.

All that's happening now is another comp has come to the market, every analyst is showing you the same deal that Lamar rejected, and now public sentiment has shifted away from Lamar, because its no longer just "well he's way better than Kyler" or "he's way younger than Wilson". He's got a guy who was second in MVP voting and made it to a SB getting a contract that is a pretty comparable match to what Lamar was offered.

I mean... he's already made it known publicly that he requested a trade in early March. People drop that request frequently, but that's at least some indication that he's at least somewhat serious about playing elsewhere.

I'm not trading him this year. I'm a fan of Young and Stroud, but I don't have a lot of interest in any other QB in this draft. So if a draft-night trade doesn't get us to where we can select one of those two (and at least one of them will obviously be gone by then), then no point in trading him now for me. Let him play the year under the FT, and if he's still disgruntled, trade him next offseason.

I hear what you’re saying and I agree to some extent, but he is the leader of this offense and about to get paid a shit ton of money. As he goes so goes this offense. So you can call it nitpicking or I would prefer to call it scrutinizing or critiquing, but why should we think it will be different then any other top tier QB who has ever played in the NFL?

Problem is we're almost out of time. Assuming he suits up, he's basically 21 months from being a UFA. And realistically, barring a long term extension, great shot he's playing in another uniform as soon as two weeks from now, or next year.

It’s actually not a Ravens chain. It’s similar but it’s actually this…
